No More Slide Boxes!!

Great product. [...]The four stars has to do with Vista compatibility. It worked fine with XP, but when I tried to set it up in my new computer with Vista, the driver download from Pacific Software never worked. [...] It was just easier to go back to my old computer with XP for scanning. Also, make sure the slide jackets are in good condition if you use the magazine: no dog ears, frays or bends. Overall resolutiion is exceptional with lots of scanning options. It works great.

I'm finally scanning ALL THOSE SLIDES!

I have now scanned over 3000 slides in a little over three weeks. As a grandmother, for years I have wanted to see all the photos of my family growing up, but they were buried as slides and never seen. Now they've come alive again on my computer screen..and soon will be on DVD. I'm also really enjoying seeing the photos I've taken in Africa, Madagascar, the Galapagos, and many other exotic locales. What a treasure this little machine is! It works night and day, and all I have to do is feed it 100 slides about every 5 hours!

Copy a large number of slides easily

I needed a scanner that would copy up to 7,000 slides where I would not have to scan each individually. Up to now, there were only expensive unitsthat would do that. This scanner is the answer Here is my impressions after scanning 1,000 slides in one week: Documentation is scant. Resolution is wonderful. Slides jam occassionally but that is easily undone but the scanner must be re-intialized. Just load the slides in the tray and let them scan overnight and use Photoshop to color correct. I will be passing this unit on to friends with slides when I complete my project.

Good but with limitations.

I had a little difficulty with the instructions as a none "techy." The tendency to jam, particularly with older slides was a problem, and the directions on what to do about this were not helpful.

It did what it claimed.

It needed new driver software from the internet. Otherwise I scanned @3000 slides with good results.I then sold it on ebay and recouped a large fraction of the original cost.

Good value, but a pain to use.

Setup is complex, usually requiring opening the program & turning the scanner off & on several times before it is recognized. Scanning is somewhat slower than the specs. Clearing jams is an ordeal, requiring a knife or other tool to pry out the jammed slide. The slide extracter hooks inside the frame and a thin slide will not extract. I have learned to run a tray of slides through manually before attempting to scan them. I would probably buy the device again, as it costs half or less than other magazine-fed slide scanners and does do a good job of scanning, if you can put up with the frustration involved.
