  • Dedicated AF sensor: Additionally, 9 of its 11 focus points have cross-type sensors to capture subjects in sharp focus, while a spotbeam assists the AF system during low light situations. The K-30's AF algorithm has also been upgraded in all areas for for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Expanded area AF function: A new expanded area AF function allows the sensor module to continue to track a moving subject in AF select mode, even when it moves out of a pre-assigned auto-tracking area, by assessing distance data collected by neighboring focus sensors. This greatly improves the accuracy and speed of moving objects detection.
  • High resolution, low noise: The K-30 incorporates the latest 16 megapixel APS-C sized CMOS image sensor with a large image-capturing area measuring 23.7mm by 15.7mm. It assures high speed image data readout to deliver super high resolution, rich gradation digital images with approximately 16.28 effective megapixels.
  • PENTAX "PRIME M" imaging engine: enables outstanding full 1080p HD movie clips (1920x1080 pixels at 30 fps), in addition to outstanding still image capture processing. Pentax K30 a winner!

from Belfast  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The pentax K30 may masquerade as a budget D.S.L.R but includes many sophisticated features more commonly available on high end cameras, not the least the use of two scroll wheels for speedy adjustments which can be customised but what really stands out to me is its low level light performance, even when I am using a 200mm zoom. I have not explored all its features as yet but rate it highly. Sophisticated weather sealing make this a camera for the British climate

Good advanced DSLR with maximum function

from Omsk, RU  -  Photo Enthusiast

Attractive & convenient design (pleasantly lies in hands). Traditionally amazing colors, good transfer of skin tones. Almost all necessary functions and settings for beginners and the advanced photographers. Probably professionals won't have enough buttons of fast control. Video auto-focus - not its strength side (but it is possible to be accustomed with old manual lens). I can recommend this camera for all Pentax users, who doesn't want to be spent on K-5

Pentax K 30

Pentax k30 is an excellent entry level DSLR with features of a mid level DSLR. I love the colours and picture quality it produces

Great camera, great value

from Valparaiso, IN  -  Semi-pro Photographer

The K-30 is a wonderful advanced DSLR that is great for most outdoor situations. I got it with the 18-135 lens. That is a great lens to use from moderate wide to telephoto. I am happy with most features, including HDR and bracketing. I wish it had a battery grip and the ability to do tethering. Overall, highly recommended!

Pentax K-30 Digital SLR Camera Body, 16.

from British Columbia, BC  -  Pro Photographer

Purchased this with the Pentax 18-135mm lens as a run around camera that I can use on vacation and not worry about sand, water etc. Looks great, feels great and easy to use. This combination doesn't have the sharpness that I am accustomed to with pro lenses and Nikon D3s but I didn't buy it to use for my business so it works perfectly for me as a lightweight, spontaneous shooting camera that is not heavy to carry around in my purse all day when I'm not working.

from New Orleans  -  Photo Enthusiast

Pentax has packed a lot of features into this camera that are above the price notably 100% VF, WR, and Dual Wheels. The dual wheels let you have "P" mode where one wheel makes the camera behave like it is in Tv mode and the other wheel makes it behave like it is in Av mode and if you press the Green button it returns to auto mode. There is also a TAv mode which lets you go one step away from manual by controlling both shutter speed and aperture and letting the camera set ISO. I upgraded from a K-x and this improved on that great camera in every way possible. The AF system has greatly improved in speed and accuracy and the Liveview AF has really come a long way (on the K-x it was all but useless so that isn't saying much), but it still lags behind Canon and Nikon in this respect so if you are totally dependent on AF or if you do lots of action stuff than you might want to weigh the importance of that feature.

great camera

It works very well for my grandchildrens sporting event, especially indoors. Nature photos seem to be very good as well.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does the K-30 offer HDR? If so, what are the specs?
BRIAN C  I really can't speak much of the HDR feature on the K-30. I did try it once and don't remember the settings I used, but, my reults were not good. There are a number of settings to choose from and maybe I chose the wrong one. LOL Sorry I can't be of more help
Leslie S  1. I am a beginner so I have all settings in Auto and in RAW so I can fix pictures. It seems every picture I take in all Auto settings I have to fix the ISO. Everything is in Auto but I always have to fix the ISO of the picture in RAW then save picture to JPEG. Why isn't the Auto adjusting the ISO properly???? 2. Does anyone know if this Pentax K-30 has 30MM filter thread.
DENNIS B  I never had a problem with this camera as you describe when shooting in AUTO. As I recall, ISO should automatically range from 100 - 3200. I usually shoot in P-Mode using JPEG or RAW and never had the issue you describe. I would suggest (1) reset the camera to factory settings (from MENU on Page 248), and (2) insure that the firmware is current at v1.04. AUTO will shoot JPEG by design. So, it sounds to me that the camera is NOT set to AUTO (as you think) or GREEN mode. I would also suggest shooting in P-Mode (Program Auto Exposure) and just press the shutter button. Doing this is the same as shooting in GREEN (or AUTO) mode. Also, make sure that the camera states AUTO for ISO as on Page 23 (Status Screen) of the User Guide. If all this fails, I would suggest working with the sales staff at Adorama for more help.
Roma K  Can this camera stitch panoramas together?
DENNIS B  Not this 1; nor the K-5, or the upcoming K-5 II. But, as I recall, you may be able to do it with computer software from neopanoramic. You may also want to consider getting the ML-80 focusing matte for your view finder so that you have better control overlapping your shots. Also, consider locking contrast and exposure so that that are no harsh changes occur between shots. This can be done via the AE-L button which can be customized via MENU. This setting is found either on Pg 78 of the K-30 User Guide by changing Custom Settings for #5 - AE-L with AF locked and I would also enable #6 -Link AE and AF Point. The K-30 is by far the most and the best camera on today's market and all for under a $1,000!
