I can't believe its low light ability, fast focusing and overall competence. I haven't tried the video yet, but i'm sure it's up to the standards of Pentax. I can't believe you can get a camera like this for under $250. It's also a perfect companion to my Pentax K-r dSLR. P.S.; Adorama has gone to the top of my camera vendors list.

A beautiful camera. Beyond the really attractive classic design, this camera just feels good and substantial in the hand. Nicely laid out, very usable Pentax menus. The lens if fast, quick focusing, accurate, and features incredible close macro(1cm). I would have liked a hot shoe for the option of an OVF or external flash, but the camera's on board flash is well designed and very adequate. A great alternative to my (Pentax)SLR - this is an excellent street camera and is good enough to please the serious shooter. It has been discontinued by Ricoh - too bad. A lot of camera for the dough!

I was looking for a compact camera to use when it was not convenient to use my DSLR. While it will only fit in a larger pocket it is still considered a compact. It is quite heavy though compared to most compacts so if something of a mass bouncing around in your pocket bothers you a case on a belt will do. This is truly a great camera. It is loaded with features comparable to my Pentax K-5. As many reviews state it is a bit slow writing to the card especially in RAW but in my opinion the 2 seconds or so that it takes are not too bad. The focus though is quite fast and accurate. The pictures are sharp and the lens focal length is more than adequate for most situations. Although it does not have a viewfinder the LCD screen is clear and bright. The fast aperture (1.8 to 2.5) is a real plus. Overall I found a camera I can use for lots of years. The only real drawback for me is the size. For the money though this kind of quality cannot be touched in a smaller camera so what is given up in size is more than made up for in features, versatility and image quality.

This isn't the lightest or smallest camera to carry around, but I like the heft of the brass plates used in the build of the camera. The way the paint wears off to show off the brass will be something cool I'll be expecting as I use the camera. There's no viewfinder, but considering I wear glasses and they always seem to get in my way, I don't particularly miss it. The macro is quiet impressive. The lens can focus as close as 1cm, and the zoom, digital I think?, gets you x1.95. My photo is a close up of a silver quarter at maximum zoom. The lens are not capable of much zoom, but that's the tradeoff for the wide aperture at both wide and tele. One thing that really bugged me are the lug mounts. Where they are located makes the camera tilt upwards rather than hang flush with your body. I have no clue what Pentax/Ricoh was thinking... The camera doesn't seem to use a standard USB port of some variant to connect to a PC, so replacing a cable won't be as easy as using another USB cable, which I have plenty of. After taking a photo, the camera is a bit slow to write to memory. Not only that, it can often lock oyu out of doing anything else for the next 1-2 seconds. Overall, I love my new camera and hope to have years of fun with it.

Great carry camera. I use it to replace my SLR when I need to travel light. Image quality is very good, easy to handle. Gives you creative control over your picture taking. Great built quality.

I use the MX-1 as a lightweight backup camera when I do not want to carry the K-5 and lenses. The high quality and fast lens of the MX-1 produces sharp and detailed images. I especially like the macro function of the camera.

MX1 is compact which is one of its many advantages. The tilt screen and manual mode very useful to me. It feels like a well thought out product. Thanks Pentax/Richo and Adorama for a painless purchase decision. No regrets at all!

For the price, I don't think you can get a more capable compact camera. The HDR mode and the Night Handheld modes are great also.
