Way better than expected!

I bring this camera and all three lenses (I bought the prime "normal" too) in an insert in my bag. I take it everywhere instead of a point and shoot. The rig is far more versatile and the pictures way better quality than a point and shoot. I keep being surprised -- almost shocked -- at the high quality of the pictures. The colors are bright and true, the focus crisp. There is a hard-to-describe magic to the pictures that is hard to pin down -- a bit unearthly maybe? Whatever it is, I love the pictures I take with this camera. The camera and three lenses weights about the same as the P&S I used to carry everywhere. It does not take the place of a bigger camera and its smallness has limits ... but the range of its capabilities is amazing and gratifying.

Most fun I've had with a camera in years

It's hard to explain why it's so much fun. The quality of pictures is much better than you would expect from such a small camera. The color balance is super and pictures -- even those taken from a moving car on a bumpy road -- are sharp. The autofocus is snappy, the little gyroscope is a big plus. The lenses range from pretty fast at f2.8, to very fast at f1.8. There is a an unreal quality to the pictures that's hard to explain or pin down. Something about the overall "look" of the pictures. A painterly quality. Subtle. Others have said it and I echo their sentiment: Pentax Q7 puts the fun back into photography. It's small enough to carry everywhere, yet yield much better pictures than an equivalent point and shoot. I have other cameras. I have better cameras. Bigger cameras. But none that are more fun than this wonderful little interchangeable lens rig.

Short battery life

The good news: It's small and portable and the build quality is okay. It's solidly built, and even though it's small, it's not too small to handle with big hands. Image quality is okay for a small sensor, but it doesn't do well in low light. Buyer beware: I'm not getting very many photos out of a single charged battery. If I had to buy this again, I would get not one but two extra batteries. Every time I take it out of my bag, it seems to give me the "battery depleted" sign.
