• Get incredibly close to small subjects with the Sony SAL-100M28 macro lens. Its superb clarity gives you professional results in almost any shooting situation. The superb macro-focus lens for both close-up and distant subjects.
• This versatile macro-focus lens covers a wide range of photographic applications, from close-up nature subjects to midrange telephoto shots, making it ideal to carry on location or in the field.
• Mounted on the Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera, it provides a 150mm focal length (35mm equivalent), and its superb sharpness and clarity give you professional results in every shooting situation.
• You can get closer to your subject to capture low-angle shots of insects, flowers and other natural wonders, and broad depth of field lets you keep backgrounds in focus too. In conjunction with the Super SteadyShot image stabilization system of the Sony (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera, this lens captures bright, steady images even working with hand-held camera in low light.
• Excellent optical precision gives your shots greater visual accuracy for close analysis of your subject. Speeds auto-focus response by limiting the range of distances that are brought into focus, Close-up Range, or Telephoto Range. For full creative control, a focus hold button located on the lens can lock auto-focusing.
• In auto-focus mode, the manual focus ring does not rotate, which improves handling ease. Because aperture blades form a near circle at the wide openings used for low-light shots, spot-light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

When considering a macro lens, I visited a local store as part of my research. I brought my camera, attached this lens, and fell completely in love with this lens. When considering a macro lens, I visited a local store as part of my research. I brought my camera, attached this lens, and fell completely in love with this lens. But then I decided I hadn't given it a fair test. My real world use did not include store interiors. But it was a cold cold winter day - totally different than my planned use in my garden. Two more times I visited local stores and each time I walked away without this lens because the price was high. But the third time, I had the store order my very own unopened box copy. Then I had to wait 3-4 days to pick it up. I actually had to wait 5 days before it arrived at the store. Just my luck, more cold cold days and strong winds kept me from finding out how wonderful this lens is in real use. I fully tested it for one day and was surprised to find myself using this lens for macros and other shots for several hours at a local zoo. I expected this to be a stay-at-home lens to be used only for garden macros. However, it is truly wonderful and fun with smooth bokeh for people shots and scenery. On cloudy days and indoors it is very fast. Sometimes it will hunt to focus but I love to manual focus with this lens and see my composition pop clearly in the viewfinder. Now I need a bigger bag because I plan to take this lens everywhere to see how versatile it will be as a permanent resident of my gear bag.

Great lens, sharp images

I used it for weddings, shooting detail photos is the perfect companion for my A99. Love it.

Awesome Addition

By

I absolutely love this lens!!! It's a perfect addition to my collection. I have been taking photos of flowers for a long time, but I never had a decent macro lens that would allow me to get those extra details. This lens produces some high quality images. Colors seem to come alive and with great detail. If you're trying to decide which macro lens to add to your collection, this is the one to choose. The lens can also provide that nice depth of field focus that adds that extra touch to your photography. Thanks to this lens, I am discovering a whole new facet of spring that I have not really explored.

Super Lens

By

This is a great lens. Well built, super sharp, fast auto focus, and no imperfections or compromises in it's optical design and performance. My lens focuses very fast and hardly ever hunts. It pretty much only hunts when I am not aiming the camera at something that the focus sensors can focus on at that moment. I can say that it is one super lens because I have compared it to other lenses I have, and this 100mm macro has become my favorite. I even like it more than any zoom lens. The only thing that can be a con is the price-kinda high. But I'm glad I paid for it! I use it mostly for portraits of individuals and couples or groups of people. And also to reproduce photos.

Great lens but slow

By

This lens takes very good, sharp photos. I have used it on several occasions with my a900 for indoor and outdoor portraits. I haven't actually used it much for macro shots. The clarity is great and the bokeh is very good. I was actually impressed given the [$] price tag. My biggest gripe with this lens is that it hunts quite a bit and is slow to focus. This is very irritating when trying to shoot children. Also, just a gripe and has nothing to do with performance but the build is almost entirely plastic and has the "cheap" feel to it. I bought this lens because it was the less expensive alternative to the Zeiss 85mm. I believe the shortcomings of this lense and the sheer awesomeness of the Zeiss will still have me buying it in the end.

LAWRENCE B  Yes it does, at least mine did. Be aware the with the lens hood attached, the lens cover is a little tricky to place on and off. But it may be that I have yet to figure out the trick.
Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
PAVEL R  A 100mm macro is a must in every bag. Good bokeh, fast enough and great for flower and small animal shots, as well as portraits. This is one lens that works for many different things on the alpha system.
