Sony 10-18mm f/4 Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
The SEL-1018 super wide-angle zoom lens is perfect for taking photos of sweeping landscapes and producing striking images with emphasized perspective. If you're seeking a wider minimum focal length than offered by standard wide-angle zoom lenses, the SEL-1018 is the ideal choice for you. Featuring a minimum focal length of only 10mm (15mm in 35mm camera equivalency), the SEL-1018 wide-angle zoom lens delivers highly-detailed, super wide-angle photos. With a constant maximum aperture of f/4 through the entire focal length range, you'll be able to use the widest aperture at every focal length. Even in low light, you can take advantage of the bright aperture to utilize fast shutter speeds without needing to increase ISO sensitivity.

10-18 mm super wide-angle zoom lens
The SEL-1018 offers a constant maximum aperture of F4 through the entire focal length range, enabling use of the widest aperture at every focal length. Even in low-light environments, such as outdoors at sunset, users will be able to take advantage of the bright aperture and use fast shutter speeds without unnecessarily raising ISO sensitivity.

Superb image capturing capability
Three Aspherical lens elements correct for spherical aberration and distortion, making it possible to shoot high-contrast, high-quality images with markedly less bleeding even at the maximum aperture. In addition, the optical system employs Super Extra-low Dispersion glass, realizing highly detailed images with reduced color aberration even at the 10 mm focal length.

Minimum focal length of 10 mm (15 mm in 35 mm eq.)
Thanks to a minimum focal length of only 10 mm (15 mm in 35 mm-camera equivalency), the SEL-1018 delivers finely detailed, super wide-angle photos, ideal for shooting majestic landscapes that can only be captured with super wide-angle lenses, as well as for producing striking photos with emphasized perspective.
Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization
The built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system provides a 4-stop (approx.) shutter speed advantage, making it significantly easier to achieve crisp, blur-free images and video.

Internal Focusing System
Lens elements at the rear of the optical system move, allowing rapid auto-focus response.

Circular Aperture
In low-light shots or nightscapes, out-of-focus light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Excellent lens - a MUST have!!

I have this lens for about 2 weeks, so I am still all excited about using it. Have had the opportunity to take landscape pictures in deserts and very narrow spaces. Overall performance - great colors, very fast focus, very little distortion, almost no "fish-eye effect", very light (lighter than same A-mount lens for Alfa cameras). Great option for ultra wide panoramic pictures, self portraits (using go-pro poles), portraits and action photos!! A must have for NEX5n and NEX7!! The only bad thi

I would strongly suggest the next version of this lens without moving parts!! Check the photo attached for more details (not photoshoped)

Excellent Lens on Cropped and FF Sensors

By

Interchangeable lens focal lengths are usually provided in terms of 35mm format. I'd like to correct one reviewer who stated that this lens at 10mm is actually 15mm on a full frame camera (like the Sony A7). It's actually the reverse. This lens' specs are 10-18mm and those numbers relate to its range on a full frame camera, and I find that this covers very well at exactly 15mm on my A7, with no vignetting. Other users may find that they can go from 12mm to 16mm with some mild and correctable vignetting. So, on the APS-C sensor of a NEX-6 or a6000 Sony camera body the stated 10-18mm is actually 15-27mm. My impressions thus far are that I'm happy using the full focal range on my a6000 and for those occasions where I'm shooting architecture interiors or exteriors and want the extra quality and light sensitivity which comes from a full frame, I simply mount this lens on my A7 where it is a true 10-18mm (but I tend to keep it at 15mm which is still ultra wide). It is a sharp lens but best at f/8 to f/11 if you want to pixel peep. It is expensive for a Sony branded, non-G, non-Zeiss lens. Picked mine up used which is the only way to buy unless you're either making money from your work or independently wealthy....

Works wonderful on the A7!

By

I bought this to use on my A7 after seeing a few examples online taken with it so I figured it was worth trying out and I am glad I did. At 10mm and 16mm it is not usable unless you are in crop mode or crop the picture in post processing. At 12mm and 16mm there is a little vignetting but usable and in black in white or using editing software correctable. At 14mm there is no vignetting. I am happy with the color and sharpness at any range and especially sharp above f8.

Covers 35mm as well

By

This lens will cover full frame A7/A7R just not at 10mm or 18mm where there is too much vignette. For me, 14mm through 16 or 17mm works great with 16mm being the best. Very sharp with little distortion in the corners at 16mm f8 & f11.

High Quality with a Surprise

By

First of all this is a high quality lens that I would definitely recommend to landscape and architectural photographers (assuming you have one of the alpha NEX series e-mount Sony cameras with APS-C size sensor). The first surprise involves distortion. Most very wide angle lenses have some distortion at the edges. I would have expected distortion at 10mm to be more than at 18mm but it was just the opposite. At 10mm it was barely noticeable. At 18mm it was a little more but in both cases easily corrected in Photoshop. My other discovery is how easily simply removing/attaching the lens cap or the lens hood can change your zoom setting. The front element of the lens moves in and out to zoom. Handling the lens cap and hood tends to move the zoom range to about the middle. Not a problem, but be aware of it.

Great Lens

By

Add the Sony 10-18 F/4 E-mount to your NEX system if you can. If I were just buying the NEX system now this would be the first lens I would buy.

SuperWide!!

By

As far as the E-Mount system goes, there aren't a lot of options for wide angle lenses. The SEL1018 however fixes that problem by going Super Wide. Although with a focal length of 10mm on an APS-C Sensor makes it actually 15mm on a Full Frame camera, it is still wider than any other E-Mount lens out to date. The only thing that I would say needs to be improved on is the f/4. Idealy I would like it to go a little lower, like around f/2.8. The size of the lens is actually a positive trait, in that it makes it easy to handle.

John M  Will there be a bundle deal before the end of 2012 that includes the new NEX-6 w/ 16-50mm lens plus this 10-18mm wide zoom? - Really interested in NJ
Andrew R  Unfortunately the only NEX-6 kit that we are currently offering (on pre-order) ( http://www.adorama.com/ISONEX6LB.html ) includes just the 16-50mm. It's possible that other kits or bundles may become available, but what those bundles or kits may contain is unknown at this time. Bear in mind that the NEX-6 has not been released yet and details are still a bit sparse.
