Capture fast action interior scenes with the capability to focus quickly and zoom from super-wide-angle to wide-angle with the Sony SAL-1118 zoom lens. With the capability to focus quickly and zoom from super-wide-angle to wide-angle, this lens captures interior scenes with greater flexibility and handles fast action in close environments.
Its DT design is ideally suited for the APS-size CCD imager of the Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera, and its 35mm-equivalent zoom range of 16.5mm to 27mm gives you wide latitude in framing and composition. Lens elements at the rear of the optical system move, allowing rapid auto-focus response. Aspherical elements correct frame distortion to provide more visually accurate super-wide-angle shots.
ED Glass lenses minimize flare and greatly reduce chromatic aberration, giving you photos with sharper focus and more accurate color separation. In low-light shots or nightscapes, out-of-focus light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.
One reason why the Sony 11-18mm is popular is because of its Fast / accurate auto-focus

Love this lens. Works great on sweeping landscapes and does surprisingly beautiful macro work too! Maybe something I'm doing but I've had some difficulties with shadows in my photos that appear to be from the lens itself.
i own the 10-20mm sigma and this lens beats it hands down, much sharper focus(doesent focus on the wrong thing)
I use the lens for indoor and outdoor shots of homes under construction. The lens is fast enough in a room lit with daylight, but not fast enough for unlit attic spaces. If you have enough light this is an amazing lens. There is only the slightest distortion (barreling) at the widest focal length.
Overall very nice lens as noted above. Would be better if it went down to a 2.0 f stop. Also would be nicer if it was a little wider such as an 8 or 9 mm since it is really 1.5 times the mm due to the digit sensor. It is terrific in moderate to full light on the seashore, the mountains, the woods and other landscape locations. Not so great in dimly lit theatre or sports locations when trying to get a wide angle view.
