Questions & Answers

James L : What is the conversion factor (35mm equivalent) for the Alphas sensor?DANE W : It has an APSC sensor so the conversion factor is 1.5.RONNIE B : 1.5x... so a 50mm lens has an effective field of view of 75mmRAM V : Sony Alpha A3000 has APC size sensor with a conversion factor of 1.5 for comparison canon T4i has a conversion factor of 1.6 in other words Sony a3000 has a bigger sensor and higher resolution one at thatARNDT L : The A3000 has an APS-C sensor. This means the conversion factor is 1.5 for 35 mm equivalent. In other words, a standard 50mm lens from a a full frame (e.g., film) camera becomes a 1.5 x 50 = 75mm lens. I quite often use old film camera lenses on this camera as well as other APS-C Sony cameras with very good results. - AFLSHANYUAN F : 1.5Didier D : Do not know, sorry
Shopper : Are Minolta lenses compatible with all Sony cameras?Frank S : No. The A3000 uses a dedicated lens mount. You can get an adapter, but the adapter is rather expensive, and it doesn't make sense unless you have a LOT of Minolta lenses around. Many of the older Sony Alphs camera bodies do accept Minolta lenses.
James R : I'm looking for a mirror less or compact camera for family photos and video under $700 (with or without lenses) that can produce pictures many times better than my Apple iPhone 5 and my old Canon S90 point and shoot, particularly in low light conditions. The Sony A3000 seems like a great deal, but the RX-100 is a great size. Which should I get?RONNIE B : ...if you want a camera that will fit into a jacket pocket or purse get the rx100 (much easier to carry around)...if you want an interchangeable lens camera get the a3000...it will NOT fit into a jacket pocket or purseIAN A. M : I replaced my Canon S90 with the Sony RX100-2 and have been delighted with it. On either of its automatic modes it takes great pictures and has many useful mode settings, portrait, night-time, low light etc. It goes up to an ISO setting of 12,800 which surprised me, but even at that setting the noise is very low, and lets me operate it at low light settings without a tripod. I have not done big enlargements at that setting but for regular prints it is very acceptable. It is larger than the S90 but is still pocketable, but not in a shirt pocket. I now find myself using it instead of my Canon 5D SLR. My only niggle would be that the menus are not as well arranged as I would like with, for example, the exposure settings (spot, area etc) being buried, and the documentation is poor.THE L : Greetings & Salutations. The RX100 naturally. Great images, and compact. If this helps: I purchased two. I mostly use medium format filme. If you want something take with you everywhere that makes excellent images. Buy it. You don't need a bulky camera!DANE W : Both will do the job, but I like the a3000. It is a great camera.BRIAN H : I was in a similar predicament a few months back. I felt it was time to upgrade my S90 and wanted a compact camera that was of great quality. A local camera shop introduced me to the RX100ii and after reading many reviews I purchased it from Adorama. The camera is a little bigger than the S90 and has a noticeable weight difference. The features and ability of this camera are amazing! I consider myself an enthusiast and I also own a Canon 5D and 7D. I wanted a camera that could rival these dslr's in a compact size. I highly recommend purchasing a supplemental book to go along with this camera to learn it's many features. It all comes down to want you are looking for. In my opinion there is no other compact camera in the same league as the RX100ii. There are bigger dslr's, smaller compacts, but this is a camera that compromises little and achieves a lot. I have to say I have no experience with the A3000. I think it's difficult to compare these two cameras because in my opinion they are not really in the same category.MICHAEL P : John, I own many DSLR cameras and mirrorless cameras. The Sony RX100 II is an excellent camera that often keeps up with many other cameras. It is lens is outstanding, and is well corrected for use at wide open apertures for low light level wotk , too. It is a very nice "poclet" camera , and when I am on a professional photo-shoot, I bring the Sony RX 11 II as a back-up camera becuase of its excellent image quality.ROGER J : No question-- get the RX 100 or theRX 100m2. I have the latter-- great camera. If size isn't an issue, I would suggest one if the micro4/3 cameras like the Nikon 1 or Fuji equivalent to take advantage of switchable lenses.JIM G : Read my prior review of RX100m2; it says it all. Jim SausalitoGERALD B : I bought the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100II for a backup and walking around camera to my Canon 5D MkIII because the Sony is small, light and takes amazing photographs. My wife also got one for the same reasons.CARLA G : Hi I have other sony alpha camera but I purchased the rx100 II for hiking/biking. I have been very happy with it and it is super small in size but large on features. Draw backs, no viewfinder and ability to change lenses. Works well in low light. CarlaMANUEL R : I know nothing about the Sony A3000. I use the Sony RX100 II as my walk-around camera (I am a professional photographer) and I find it is a delight to use. It has good resolution, and a good extended range lens. And it is compact. It's a little on the expensive side for a point and shoot, but aside from that, no complaints.

Outstanding camera

Many cameras fail in low light conditions. This one is among the exceptions. Images taken in even very week luminosity are exceptionnally good. I took the camera to Senegal, West Africa, and was also amazed by the fidelity of the skin tones rendition. This A3000 is the best of the digital cameras I ever owned.

Takes great pictures and looks the part too

I bought this camera about a month ago as an introduction into photography, I must say I was happy with the product until I found difficulty acquiring accessories for it, I have now however managed to get adapters that allow me to use other manufacturers accessories and can now get the results I want.

Good value with lots of features

A good value for money camera that will give much better results than a pocket digital. Capable of a lot if you want to explore photography. Pros: Excellent image quality Small and lightweight All the features most people would want Cons: Expensive and limited range of additional lenses Insufficiently high definition lcd view screen Proprietary interface for accessories which are expensive and rarely in stock

Cool pictures, easy to use

It has correct design, you can take in your hand so safe. The pictures quality I think more then enough for an average user, the intelligent+ mode can help a lot! I so satisfied with the battery as well.. I prefer to anybody who want an easily setting up camera also with a lot of manually opportunity.

It's a hybrid between 'point and shoot' & manual.

It fits my bill: small, light, interchangeable lenses, manual setting possible but many automatic features and it takes good photos. It also works well with my Mac.

I bought this camera as an alternative to purchasing a more expensive SLR. The quality of images are excellent; as good, if not better than some more costly SLR cameras. Very easy to use, with all the features most non professional photographers would need. Easy to handle.

About Sony A3000

FEATURED REVIEWS

A3000 hits the spot I was looking for

By Shewster

As long as you remember what the A3000 is (and is not) you will be very happy. I like the point and shoot ease. I am not very good at photography so I want technology to do it for me. At the same time, I like the feel of a full size camera, changing lenses, etc. The camera is incredibly fast. The salmon are running in Seattle so I went to a local creek. I was able to consistently catch fish jumping. That is pretty fast for the camera to figure out the settings and snap the shot. The picture ...

EXCEPTIONAL VALUE!

By BESSADRIVER

I have had my A3000 for a few weeks now and have used it daily. I am extremely impressed with the jpegs I get right out of the camera, usually needing little pp. The viewfinder is a bit low resolution, but very usable. The live view screen is bright and sharp. Focus is quick and accurate. With the 30mm/3.5 macro lens the focus is tack sharp with excellent bokeh. FOR THE MONEY, I do not know of any camera that can hold a light to the little A3000. Learn about the SONY A3000 DIGITAL CAMERA W/18-55mm LENS

Some cameras require a lot of thought, a lot of effort, and a lot of knowledge to get stunning, professional-looking shots. The SONY A3000 DIGITAL CAMERA W/18-55mm LENS is from a different breed. Not only does it work well with amateurs who simply want to take amazing photograph after amazing photograph, but it allows you to unlock your creative potential with a stunning list of features and top-of-the-line technical qualities that place it a cut above many of the all-in-one cameras you’ll find here at Adorama. If you you’re thinking about buying a camera to start pursuing photography as a real hobby, you might not find a better purchase.

  • What goes into making a camera capable of producing these kinds of professional-quality photos? It starts with a high quality sensor. With some thirteen times the area of a typical “point and shoot” camera, the APS-C sensor on this Sony A3000 DIGITAL Camera puts it above the competition, allowing you to take high-contrast, high-clarity shots with nary a single thought except to frame and light your image properly. That gives you the flexibility to handle all sorts of live events with consistency in a more professional (or even social media) capacity.
  • Lightweight enough to carry with you the entire night, the Sony A3000 DIGITAL Camera has the added advantage of being more mobile than many other DSLR-style photography cameras. Not only does the lightweight design allow you to easily tote it with you on a number of events, but you’ll find it easy to set up and frame shots exactly the way you want—even selfie-style portraits won’t be a problem.
  • Capturing live events doesn’t have to be difficult even with a point-and-shoot style camera. In fact, you can capture amazing 20 megapixel images at up to 3.5 frames per second, continually shooting exactly what you want to capture and selecting the best-quality photo from each selection. This gives you editorial power over your own photographic work and puts you in the “director’s chair,” so to speak.
  • Versatility won’t be a concern—especially since this Sony A3000 DIG Camera is compatible with the wide selection of E-mount lenses at Sony. These small, light lenses can easily be interchanged to add a professional flair to each photo. The more you can control over the quality of your own shots, the faster you’ll be on your way to achieving professional consistency, even if you’re working in an amateur capacity.
  • And, seriously, did we mention the image quality? It warrants a second mention, because the Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor ISO 16000 may even surprise the battle-hardened photography professionals who are anxious to see what a point-and-shoot camera of this quality can produce. Heck, maybe we at Adorama shouldn’t even be calling it point-and-shoot, because it’s much, much more.

Acquire your own SONY A3000 DIG CAMERA W/18-55mm LENS if you want a fast introduction to the world of taking spectacular shots consistency. Whether you’re an established enthusiast or someone who simply wants to take better pictures, this is the camera for you.

Best of all, can't-miss moments and fast-action shots are captured with DSLR quality and speed-all in a lightweight camera you'll want to take everywhere.

But, the a3000 offers a lightweight body and a newly developed grip that enables you to hold the camera more securely for worry-free shooting. It provides ease and comfort when you're taking photos on-the-go.

Enjoy the advantages of DSLR-style photography with fast action shooting. Never miss a moment of a soccer game, a gymnastics meet or even the subtle movements of a newborn baby.
