I got this camera with my Sony Z1 phone and have taken 1000s of pictures with it. It's a great addition to any mobile phone. Recently upgraded to a Sony A6400 camera for quicker photo taking. As good as the lens is it's just not great for that photo of opportunity.

Good zoom for a smartphone with video.Check out reviews first, as maybe a little bit of a niche product. I also struggled to get it to record video (almost sent it back), but Sony’s chat advisors helped me to reformat the micro Flash disk which solved the problem. Glad I persevered. A little more freedom to adjust exposure time wouldn’t hurt.....

I bought this second hand, it hadn't been used. After a firmware update, which added missing features... Still holds up

I bought this device so that I didn't have to carry my NEX camera and all the gear when travelling. It takes great shots and the zoom is superb. It now gives me options alongside my Z5 Premium. When switched off, it's very small and easily fits in a pocket when out walking. Would be good if Sony did a wider range of mobile covers to fit these cameras on to Xperia devices.

I bought this about 3 weeks ago and haven't regretted a single penny. The picture quality is beyond superb and the video quality is great too! Full HD. I use mine to take close up shots of reptiles in the UK and it is brilliant! 10/10 would 100% recommend

I bought this product last two week and it has been the best product that I bought in my life. It's takes beautiful shots and beautiful landscapes, it sometimes lags as when taking pictures it is slow to process. But sometimes it's fine. The price should be less cheaper but in, in all it is a fantastic camera to take beautiful pictures and a opportunity to have a enjoying hobbie if you like taking pictures.

Great original concept, tainted by less than optimal execution. The power button needs be better positioned and accessible. The shutter / focus button needs heavier damping for better tactile response. The zoom button needs be better positioned for single-handed use. The access doors for battery and micro-USB compartments need to be far less finicky to open and close - the plastic ribbon hinge mechanism, even on first inspection, is certain to break. The closing clasps for the battery-compartment cover should be much better - the cover will (and did) fall off, if the lens-camera is clamped to a riding helmet on reasonably jerky hill-descends. And finally, there should be an option to turn the infernally loud sounds off on the lens. Great picture quality and app, though - well done.

I am a keen amateur photographer, but don't always want to carry the bulk and weight of my DSLR kit. Although my iPhone 6, has a reasonable quality camera, I get frustrated by the lack of zoom. So I was intrigued by this 'lens' style camera and decided to take a punt. I have been pleasantly surprised by the results, the interface to the phone is very effective and intuitive, it's a little slow to save a 'review' copy of the picture to the phone, but you can disable this if you wish. The zoom range is good, with only very slight blooming at the telephoto end. It would have been nice to have aperture & shutter priority as well as fully manual modes, but then this is only intended for point and shoot use. It is truly small enough to slip in your pocket and forget, but I would recommend the optional case.

I've been using this camera for over a year now, it is compact and lightweight and can literally be kept in your pocket, using a small monopod or selfie stick you can shoot over the top of obstacles or crowds, useful copy of the image can be stored on your phone, once you have paired the camera a few times it becomes a very easy operation, you can either attach the camera to your smartphone with the bracket provided or use it remote. The software is upgradable and now allows full HD video recording

I bought this a couple of weeks ago & so have not been able to test fully test. My initial views are that the build & picture quality are good but it is let down in a number of areas; (1) I had great difficulty in locating the USB input but once found the the plastic covers appears quite frail - a rubber one would have been better. (2) The zoom control on the camera is jerky and the buttons are situated very close to the shutter release making it all too easy to release while adjusting the zoom. (3) I find it hard to understand why the camera to 'phone connection (I have an iPhone 5S) is via wifi and not bluetooth - this makes setting up cumbersome and slow. (4) The 'Play Memories' app has very few functions as far as I can see with no means of manual adjustments. (5) You are required to download a Sony support app which totally baffles me! It tells me I have 5 updates available but how you make them work I have no idea. Time will tell how well I get on with it but I suspect it will be for occasional use only.

I don't care much for cameras, but like to take good pictures. This seemed to an excellent compromise, and I wasn't wrong. Picture quality is great and the camera is easy to store away and pull out when needed. Negatives. No Android 6.0 Marshmallow support means I cannot use it on my Nexus 6P. I find it astonishing this hasn't been fixed yet. And for some reason the review image on the phone is shocking.

I purchased this on a whim and without thoroughly checking features. It lacks the ability to take pictures in raw, which I feel would have made this a whole lot better a package to carry around instead of my dslr. It's quirky in nature but could be soooo much better, shame really.

This little lens camera is a great idea, and takes wonderfully sharp pictures and video - but there are a few minor flaws that spoil it. - the interface lag is sometimes painful - the wifi connection is jittery sometimes, especially when there are lots of people around - the optical zoom is good, but 12x rather than 10x would have been amazing - it's a crying shame that OIS wasn't available at this price-point at the time - finer control over the settings through the app - no HDR as far as I can see - bigger battery would be good I'd still recommend the product, but with caveats.

The zoom doesn't take me as far as I had hoped, the link via wifi to the iPhone is quite slow and the zoom on the phone app is difficult to use. Functionality via the app is considerably less than I had expected. I guess that I was hoping that this lens plus the iphone might by similar to a digital SLR, but it is no better than a good compact and, at times, I feel that I am getting better results via the iPhone without the lens.

Had this almost two years now and I've used it with both android phone (Sony Xperia Z1) and more recently with an iPhone 6 plus. It's easy to set up, install the memory card (microSD) and incredibly easy to pair with Android (only need to do that once with Android), after that each time you open the Play Memories App on android it pairs automatically. On iPhone, pairing is a bit more complicated, but it does work well, but it's the same process each time. Switch the lens on. The app doesn't 'see' the QX10 lens, so open up settings, go to wifi and see if the lens is showing up there as a wifi signal option. If not, turn off wifi then turn on again and it should appear. Select it. Close settings and open Play Memories App and it will be connected. The instructions say you should only have to do this once and then the app should find it, but I've never found this and got to manually go through settings each time. Once it's connected it takes great photos and the 10x zoom function is superb. The video is high quality, but if you zoom while taking a video the on-board mic picks up the whirring sound of the motorised zoom lens. I don't know how to get round that. Worth noting, that the lens pairs using the wifi function on your phone, which switches off any active wifi connections temporarily. You do not need to be in a wifi area to use this lens! It is not dependent on being in a wifi zone and will work in the middle of nowhere quite happily. There are two auto settings while using the lens and a P (programmable?) function which lets you adjust the light settings - I've used this a little, but not a lot. The lens clips onto your phone, if desired but also comes with a thread fitted to mount on a tripod. The quality of the results is excellent and on auto settings will adjust remarkably in poor light (you must use a tripod for this or get blurry results). Low resolution pictures transfer to your phone and the wonderful high resolution photos are on the memory card for downloading to your laptop or desktop later using the USB lead provided. There is no panoramic or slo-mo function on the lens. Transferring photos to laptop or desktop couldn't be easier and the play memories app/program is excellent. Sony also provides free online automatic backup for your photos, which is excellent. What I like: the quality of the photos and videos. Zoom is excellent. Ease of transferring high resolution pics from device and free back up. The tripod mount and wifi link allows setting up a photo without camera shake as you're using the screen of your phone remotely to operate. It charges quickly. Play Memories App on laptop or desktop downloads and organises photos well. What I don't like: iPhone pairing is cumbersome. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds to pair by which time the photo opportunity is lost. Frequently will freeze for just a few seconds during which you're shouting at it to work as you're going to miss a shot! After each photo the lens sends a low resolution copy to your phone and briefly displays the shot on your phone screen which takes a few seconds each time during which you can't use the device. There's probably a way to switch this off if I took the time to find out. Overall, a great little gadget, but not perfect.

As an avid photographer I have many different cameras. Also I am nearly always behind the lens instead of in front. This camera is so easy to use, has great features and with the aid of a selfie stick due to its light weight I can get in on the shots as well. Good job Sony you got it right first time. I have only one regret and that is I didn't get the DSC - QX 100 instead. Ah well maybe next Christmas list item.

The wifi connects to my iPhone 5 but the software never connects to my iPhone 5 (iOS 8.3). The wifi will not connect to my iPad at all. The wifi and software connects to my iPod (iOS 6.1.6). Why can't I use it on my iPhone?

I was looking for a cool photography related gift for my wife and I came across the DSC-QX10 at Best Buy. I am a fairly techie guy and the concept intrigued me, so I researched it, looked at the limitations (occupying wifi, no blue tooth, storage on cam instead of phone, slight lag between phone and cam) all relatively minor if all you are looking for is a Cam you can supplement your phones existing cam with. If you are looking for a DSLR this is not it, My wife had just replaced her Lumia (...
