I bought this lens as I own the QX10 and wanted to move up a little. I don't want to carry a camera when not on a specific trip to take photographs. This lens affords me opportunities for better street or field photography than my mobile 'phone alone does.

I was impressed by the ease and good quality of the videos and stills with this lens type camera and I also got the DSC-QX 10 as I wanted extra reach. Overall very good but the supply battery don't last long.

I purchased this to make the most of my i phone and it does,nt disappoint in terms of image quality and portability. Its a bit slow to start as it has to find the WiFi,but the controls on the ap make it easy to control and focus. This is not a substitute for a good point and shoot camera in fact it is less portable, but it has endless possibilities for the serious photographer and with a 1" sensor and excellent lens is capable of very good results.

I've used this lens half a dozen times now and I must say that I'm always pleased with the photographic results... The glass is superb quality (as you'd expect from Zeiss) that renders lovely images (even the low size images direct to my phone) upto 18M in size. The connectivity is the other main half of the lens and on a small number of occasions it's been a little slow to connect. This isn't anything major, and it has always connected ultimately, but can be a little annoying as it seems somewhat of a sluggish process. I've noticed that this performance improves if your phone isn't running lots of tasks at the time but I turn the lens off and disconnect after each picture to save the precious battery life. I'm sure that if you just left the lens on and connected then most, if not all, of the connection delay would disappear. It could just be because I disconnect after each shot. Overall, I am pleased with the lens and find the connection time not too off putting because the resultant images are worth it.

The lens camera is an excellent device as I can control it from my i-phone with an App. It is ideal as I can leave it on a tripod and take photos when needed. This is the method I use when my grandchildren are about, they forget that there is a camera on them so the photos are that much better.

I purchased a QX100 in June 2015 and have no regrets; it is a beautiful piece of technology and a great camera. Make sure you buy the special 'carrier' which is well padded and ideal for carrying the camera around. The camera/lens itself takes a little getting used to. A 'selfie-stick', preferably one with a shutter button, is a really valuable accessory and extend the uses in more ways than one. The quality of the images is superb and it is worth spending time getting familiar with the settings althought the 'auto' images are of an excellent quality. Worth it? I would say yes. But persevere with it as it is not as handy as an instamatic (but better) and not as easy to adjust as an DSLR (but much more portable). I have no regrets about buying my QX100. But perhaps shop around for the HDSD card that you should use if you want to store photos in the camera/lend itself. Prices range from moderate to extortionate; just make sure the card is capable of haming high quality images.

This is a great idea that hasn't been taken far enough. It is an attachment to supplement the camera in your phone. I love the Carl Zeis lens, I love the pictures that I am getting however the camera lag on an iPhone is frustrating, the fact that I can only control aperture and focus is annoying Love the idea but as I said, it has too many limitations

This is a well-made and stylish piece of kit. I am using it with an iphone 6 so not able to take advantage of the NFC. I am therefore connecting by WiFi. That does take a minute or so to configure each time. Fetching the image from the camera to the micro SD card takes a few seconds between each shot. There is no burst mode on this model. I was unable to do the firmware upgrade to provide shutter speed priority shooting and sent it back to Sony. They did it for me quickly. It works well in low light, and the colour balance is excellent. The 3.5 X zoom is rather limiting, but I took that into consideration when I chose this model. I really like the Zeiss lens, which is fast - it has a low f number. I have not been impressed with the steadyshot technology as I seem to get camera shake if I use this without a tripod. You certainly take pictures from different angles when you use this camera. I think that is what makes it good. Otherwise, I did expect more from image quality than this camera delivers.

I have a problem carrying heavy equipment around so I have been looking for a good quality camera that is small and light but gives me a high resolution image plus HD video, and has a number of options that small compacts don't have to allow me to practice what photography skills I possess. I carry an iPhone so although it is very convenient to snap a quick photo when not carrying a camera I have experimented with a few add on lenses to try and improve the results, with some success, but when I noticed the DSC-QX100 it seemed to offer an answer. Well, I can tell you it offers a wealth of answers! In addition to the brilliant photographs you gain the flexibility of having a lens that will work at some distance from the viewfinder (which is the iPhone or an Android phone) splendid for candid photographs and interesting angles, and the camera body has a tripod bush so I bought a selfie stick, which is easier to carry than a monopod, and I have taken some great shots over the heads of crowds in front of me! The software that you can download for viewing and downloading to your PC (or Mac) is called Playmemories and is very easy to use, very much like Picasa.

It has a good quality lens, a larger sized sensor(compare to normal point and shot camera or QX10/QX30), as well as giving you a higher ISO range (easy for indoor or night time photo shooting), Thanks to the F1.8 and Superior Auto Mode, the DOF on this thing is amazing. Only thing bugs me is when you using a iphone, the wifi direct pairing is kind annoying! Also, sometimes the live view is laggy!

I have QX100 for just over three weeks now and have to admit that I was a little sceptical at first regarding some claims I'd read about the image quality but I needn't have worried - IQ is terrific, particularly for street scenes, plus fans of bokeh will love this lens. Once you use it a few times with your smartphone, it becomes second nature and the fact that it doesn't need to be clamped to your phone is an added bonus as it allows you to get into some tight spaces and use interesting angles for some pics that would not be possible with most cameras.

There should be a caveat for this device - it is so fragile. The round frame that holds the whole mechanism is not sturdy enough to withstand minor pressure. The control ring to zoom in/out will not manually work and will get stuck due to deformed tin-can-like quality support frame. Zoom in/out works with the App but not physically. Sony must change the accessory instead of Soft Carrying Case for QX Series Camera (LCSBBL) to a "Hard" case. I have bought this device and you cannot be careless to put this in your carry on bag and forget about it, accidentally sit on it or worst put it in your check-in luggage ... as even if is under the 1-year warranty, physical damage is not covered. Had to beg and renegotiate my repair fees from $292.34 to $217 finally down to $200 + tax when it is supposed to be free! Extended warranty will not help as it is hard to convince the reps if there are scratches already. For that hefty amount of repair you are better off waiting for the QX1 already with the starter E-lens.

I enjoy this device, but I think there are a few things to be improved. First of all, there is a long time between 2 shots, even if the user accepts to download in phone storage or not. Must modify the play store app. in order to take faster the second and following shots. Another bad thing is that the user can't take a cascade shots. A wi-fi blitz could be the best idea in order to take shots when no day light. Last thing: I'm really not sure my device work properly. If you are interested to see few large photos, please write me the contact e-mail address where to send them to you in order to analyze if my device works properly.

Seen these for a while before taking the plunge after trying one in a shop - it's now a permanent part of my camera bag along with my Big dlsr cameras as it can produce some very different images to the norm. Love it

I bought this lines about a month ago,,,,, had it for a day and sent it back,, the lens was well made,, the clips to hold it to the phone were far to wide and kept putting the Sony Xxperia Z2 off, switching it off. Not good when trying to take a photo, and taking so long to set it up again, the shere weight of the lens over balance the phone, not well thought out,I would not recommend this lens

Overall this is a brilliant camera. The photo's it takes are really good and vibrant. Sadly it's ultimately let down on the software front, which is why I've not given it 5 stars. The concept of using your smartphone as the lens is novel and pretty good. Most smartphone screens exceed the quality that sony could build into the camera itself and they also have the processing power spare to mange it all. However, as I said the software is pretty rubbish. Connection speeds are slow, it can take up to 30 seconds to connect. So if you want to take a quick shot it's not really possible unless you want to risk taking a photo without a viewfinder. Once connected it's mostly fine, unless there's a high level of bright light being processed then the feed is laggy and it's again a click and hope on the picture front. I think when you spend so much on a camera you expect it to perform a little better and sadly I don't think you get enough for your money on the QX100. The difference between this and QX10 pretty negligible (zoom and a few extra megapixels). Sadly having to use your smartphone as a lens means it's battery goes pretty quick, and the battery on the camera doesn't last a long time either - which is surprising! And the new sony smartphones have a pretty good camera on them as they are. All in all, if you want a high quality camera go for a DSLR instead, or even a cross between a point and shoot and SLR.

I bought this last year. I have used the device, quite a lot. In some aspects it has taken over from my SLR. The fact that by being attached to my smartphone means it is so much easy to upload photo's to sites such as flickr and facebook. Colours are good and the lens lets in more light than the camera on my smartphone, giving a better balance to the shots. It is also very handy being able to detach the camera from a phone but still control the camera from the phone. This gives an ability to put the lens into places where you would not be able to see the viewfinder/screen on any other camera. The downsides are the time lag between the camera and my smartphone, and the battery. If you have the patience to deal with the time lag issue then this is a useful purchase for anyone who uses a smartphone for photography. It is however heavy on the batteries on both the camera and the phone. Shooting options are limited i.e. no b/w however the ability to operate the camera separate from the phone is worthy. In situations where you cannot use flash and you need something different, then this will take good photographs.

Perfect for my requirements at the moment. Unable to justify a DSLR on my wage, but fare better performance than a phone's camera. Maybe not as good for spontaneous shots, as it does take a while to pair with the Xperia Z1, but for capturing days out it is ideal.

I bought this lens a few weeks ago and am impressed by the quality of images it can produce. I would be cautious about recommending it, however, because of the limitations of the wireless connection to the phone (iPhone in this case). The lag between image displayed on the phone means that this is nearly impossible to use with moving objects e.g. children, pets etc.. You might be lucky occasionally, but the experience of trying is very frustrating. Still life on the other hand is easy and gives great results. However the unit is small enough to carry around and gives a worthwhile image quality upgrade for relatively static subjects so you need to decide what's more important ....

It's easy to set up and use. The WiFi is a great feature. I'm using this mostly for concert/Band photos and so far it's performed very well. It does great mp-4 of concerts with no blur and the audio isn't bad. The one thing I wish it did was control the flash on my iphone. Other than that I love it.
