I am not a camera expert but wanted a nice DSLR for taking pictures of my children. I love this camera! The quality is great and after a quick look thru the manual I was off and running. This camera does way more than I will ever use it for (as do all DSLRs) but I'm hoping to teach myself a thing or two with it. I was originally going to purchase a Nikon D80 but am very pleased I went with this camera instead.

I do mostly wedding and portrait photography using Nikon equipment. I bought the Sony DSLR-A300 to take on a cruise and for vacation photos. It is neither the quality nor the price of a comparable Nikon. But it is a good and versatile camera in its own right. The A300 features live view and a LCD screen that tilts upward or downward. That makes it easier to take photos overhead in a crowd or hugging the ground for low angle views. I use the Sony 18-200mm lens which I feel is the most versatile for this camera's intended purposes. I did not recommend it for wedding photography because it is not as good in low light at higher ISOs as the Nikon. The Nikon is better in dark churches that do not allow flash. In normal lighting conditions the Sony takes beautiful photos and the 10.2 Megapixel sensor is sufficient for most purposes. I also think the Sony (Minolta) flash arrangement is the best on the market.
