Great camera

Overall, I love this camera, the only things I don't like about it is the inability to shoot video and the slow FPS speed. Takes some great pictures.

Photographed my first NL base ball game.

I photographed my first professional base ball game using this camera with the Sigma APO 120 - 400mm lens. Using continuous advance and the fine image settings the photos were fantastic. I would like to have more frames per second ,but I still managed to capture the 90mph fast balls coming off the bat. During the bottom of the 7th ending cloudy conditions set in. I simply set the white balance to cloudy and continued shooting. I suggest using the VG-B30AM vertical grip with two batteries to eliminate any low battery situations that could cause you to miss a great shot.

IT'S THE LENS, #@&%!

I understand why Sony discontinued this model. It's ridiculously under priced for it's build quality (only lacking the seals) and all it's feature sets. If you attach an expensive, high quality lens; you will compete with $4000 DSLR's body by other manufacturers. Often described as a steppin' stone from liveview compact digitals; the a350 is actually a leap over DSLR's on the market that are considered pro-level. The kit lenses that came with this model can be descrbed as party lenses. They are just poorly designed and produce poor to fair images. Every photographer knows it's all about the lens. So purchase a great lens and this full featured, technical wonder and make Canon 5D & 1D owners jealous. All they can say is their's are full frame. Then you say true but your prints & mine look alike and I saved 5 grand.

white screen

I am still giving this camera a 4 star because I haven't heard of many other screen issues like I have. I work out in a very difficult construction environment that is difficult for anything to last, let alone a high quality camera. Everything gets dirty and banged around, so a camera to last isn't easy. I carry 3 with me for work at all times, one small one that can get in tight places and an Olympus with a now broken zoom drive motor, and the Sony a350. I love the a350 for ease of use, the amount of pictures that I can take with just one battery charge, quality and versatility of pictures that it takes, and then durability. But saying durability means that I put cameras through some bad things and until just recently everything worked just fine, but now I have had my screen turn mostly while with lines through it and what looks like some possible LCD screen damage at the top. There is one small area up top that looks like a blacked out LCD bleed area. I am not sure just what happened, but I had taken a series of pictures, placed the camera back in the case in my truck, and then when I when back to take some more pictures, the screen was white with lines and a small bit of image in the lower right corner.. I have no regrets and will pay Sony to fix it. I paid just over $540.00 for this brand new over a year ago with the 70-300 lense, and have put 10's of thousands of pictures through it, on dusty and dirty locations as I work around heavy equipment. I would tell anyone who would want a quality camera, this worked for me.

Wonderful Camera!

This camera is so much fun! The clarity of my photos are superb! It has so many functions, I'm still learning new things it can do. It shoots in very low light conditions with excellent results. And it is priced very resonable. I opted to purchase just the body and match it with Zeiss lens offered here at Sony.com, and I'm very pleased with the results.

Excellent camera

This is my first DSLR. I have compared my photos to others using more expensive cameras and mine are just as good if not better quality. The lenses are expensive, but you get what you pay for. I had a 75-300 lens and upgraded to the g series 70-300 and it is night and day.

thumbs down for alpha 350

I purchased recently alpha 350 from amazone.uk. The camera would not refocus once object moves every time. Checked all parameters and found the focusing issue due to camera malfunctioning.. soon I got a replacement of another alpha 350 camera from Amazon. Within just few days of use of replacement alpha 350, the LCD monitor screen turned totally white and I could not use lcd monitor, while all other functions are working ok. (focusing issue did not repeat in this model) This has increased my frustrations.. I want to know if I should get one more replacement of Alpha 350 only or should I move away from this model and get higher model as replacement, ofcourse by paying differential cost.. say alpha 700. I feel alpha 350 is a bad product, giving a poor quality and over all bad performance.

Dependable

There are things I absolutely love about this camera. Decent AF with a decent speed, Live View with tiltable screen, Fine JPG and Raw capabilities, and even the WB. What I find frustrating is that sony doesn't supply a large enough assortment of lenses at decent cost, therefore you are stuck hunting through Minolta lenses (if you are looking second hand), unless you are prepared to shell out big bucks for names like Zeiss and G, nor are you able to find a simple list of off brand lenses that are compatible. There are advantages to having the Alpha series compatible with Minolta, however, if you are purchasing second hand lenses you will want to bring your camera to ensure that all features are functional. Overall picture quality is great, it's a perfect starter camera. Have had zero issues

The Bomb for the Buck!

I use the 350 for mushroom and flower macrophotography. The tilt screen saves my neck as I like to get right on the subject. I also shoot scenery and at group functions. The tilt screen allows me to get useable perspectives above the crowds and around the trees. When I give shows people want to know what camera I used. The attached flash works well in rooms, great exposures. This Camera meets all of my needs. All my old Minolta lenses work perfectly. The 14.2 mp let me crop and still get excellent files.

great camera

The A350 is an excellent camera to work with. I has a good range of ISO and the processor is very fast in making images. The camera is a little hard to hold when you have a heavy lens attached to it. The images it creates in both RAW and JPG are excellent.
