An Awesome Camera

I purchased the A700 hot off the presses in November 2007. Having used the camera for 3 years I was never once tempted to change to a canon or Nikon primarily due to the fact the Image Stabilization is in the body of the camera rather than on the lens thereby saving you tons of $$ when purchasing lenses... I can use older Minolta Glass and still have the Image steady shot which I might add is awesome. I was looking for a camera with a lot to offer and good price that would survive the rigors of outdoor Photography... I have Shot 3 F1 races, tons of Landscape, and wildlife shots with this camera... I have nothing bad to say about it. I have since purchased the A900 and A55 and even at 12Mp it holds its own... 5fps and a ton of shots on a single battery charge who can complain. I have never needed to have more than ONE spare battery as they would last me a day and a 1/2 of heavy shooting and never shutting off the camera. Overall a great camera I look for to it's upgrade...

Amazing camera for its time

I got this camera in 2009 and have been using it in some rough environments ever since (documenting poverty conditions in Nicaragua and reconstruction efforts in New Orleans) and I can say this thing is a tank. I get great pictures from it and its physical design and layout is so much more comfortable and easy to use than Canon or Nikon cameras. The only downside is that it's lacking some important technology like live view, rotating LCD screen, and video. Apart from that you can get faster and higher resolution for equal and less price now. It's really an amazing camera though and I'm in love with it.

WOW! I'm impressed with this camera!

I was going to buy a Canon 7D until I looked at this camera and tried it out. I am glad I stumbled across it. Even though it is discontinued, it is better than most cameras out there. The feel and look of the camera is well built and professional. This camera is so easy to use unlike the Canon. I really wanted a good camera that takes professional pictures at a great price. This camera fits the bill and then some! Today's cameras have so many things on them that you don't really need and you have to read an encyclopedia to use them. Not with this one. The menus are so easy, you can use it without reading the manual first if you want to. ALL the lenses are stabilized because it is in the camera. Money saver there! The color reminds me of film. It is beautiful. One thing I love is the way the menu rolls over with you when you turn the camera in the vertical position so you can read it without turning your head sideways. It also has a nice bright viewfinder. It has highlight and shadow control and does NOT blow the highlights out like so many other cameras. Great for bride's gowns. This camera was truly designed for a professional in mind but costs way less. I could go on and on. I can't wait until the replacement model comes out! If it is better than the a700, it will be a SUPER camera! I will buy two!

Wonderful Camera

I must say that I am impressed with this camera. I have been a big fan of Sony products over the years and this product is no exception. I bought this camera with the intention of using it as an underwater camera. The initial pics I took were fantastic. Great clarity and sharpness. The ONLY concern or negative I have with the camera is as it relates to my use of it as a diving camera. With the housing that is present, I am a little farther away from the view finder than I would prefer. Because of that, I cannot tell what the image will look like until it's taken. Trying to catch underwater marine life can be tricky and often times you only get one shot to get them. It would be so much easier if this camera had the option to use either the view finder or the LCD screen as the view screen before taking the picture. On land it is an outstanding product. The above option would make it equally so underwater.
