The RX1 needs a finder!

The RX1 does not have an articulated screen, and begs for a viewfinder. This one allows viewing from above the camera as well as from behind it (it swivels 90 degrees up from horizontal to vertical), and naturally it also allows eye-level viewing, which as an old-timer is my preference. The reason I don't give it all five stars? There's no way to lock it into place on the accessory shoe, a feature that could have easily (and inexpensively) been designed into both the camera and its finder. O...

Of course, all the RX1 accessories are overpriced, but at least this is a century less than the much less versatile optical finder!

No more sun glare.

By

I do a lot of outdoor photography and frequently have problems with glare on the LCD screen. This electronic viewfinder on the RX100M2 has allowed me to stop shooting blind on very bright days when I have to face away from the sun and I can't see the LCD screen.

Expensive but Works Well

By

There is really nothing wrong with this external EVF for the RX1/R. It is high quality and integrates well with my RX1R. I think the main drawbacks are: it is very expensive, it doesn't lock onto the hotshoe (although it has never felt like it would just slide off on it's own), it uses up the hotshoe, and it adds bulk to the RX1/R. All that said, the resolution and refresh rates are good, the tilting ability allows you to use the camera in more creative ways, and having a viewfinder lets you make the camera more secure for hand-held shots (coupling the camera to your body mass instead of holding it out like a point and shoot). I wish it was built-in like the A7/R. But since it isn't, it is basically essential for RX1/R owners.
