Fills a functionality hole for NEX-7

I was spoiled by my previous camera (a DSLR) because I was able to get a decent macro zoom that served almost all my needs. With the NEX-7, things were not so simple. The 55-210 has a minimum focus distance of 1 m! So in order to get close, I had to spring for yet another lens. This one does do the job nicely, although it's a bit of a pain having to switch lenses often. Good: I can get as close as I want and get a blurred background. No more getting 1 m away and then zooming in. Less good: I often have to use manual focus (DMF) since it tends to want to focus on something in the background. Also, no stabilization.

The next level

I always wanted a macro lens and had tried out reverse rings in the past. The experience with this lens blows them away and is totally worth it... Does well as a prime portrait too. I use this with the NEX 3n

Excellent Lens

Great addition to my NEX lenses. Sharp and clear with great color. Very pleased. Wish Sony would create a longer macro.

Good design and function

Their is a fairly long learning curve to use a macro lens correctly. The lens is of good design and workmanship.
