The Sony a99 is a full frame sensor.PAUL H : The A77 is not a full frame sensor hovever the image quality is excellent and also gives you a 1.5 multiplication factor for your lens focal lengths. Only a pro photographer needs a full frame camera and sometimes not even they actually do. A77 is a great camera for a lower price than full frame.Tim S : No, this camera has the crop sensor.KENNETH D : No, it is an APS-C camera.VICKY M : No, it is not. The A77 has an APS type sensor which is a cropped sensor. The measurements are 23.5 x 15.5mm as compared to a full frame sensor which is typically 24 x 36mm.KEVIN B : It isn't. The A77 is an APS-C sensor camera, but its hardware has more in common with Sony's full frame cameras than the rest of the APS-C line-up; a weather-sealed magnesium alloy body, dual control wheels, Quick Navi interface, programmable buttons, and a robust shutter with 1/8000s minimum exposure and 1/250s X sync speed.IAN Z : No it's not. You would need to buy a Sony a99. But if you don't need one this is an excellent camera. DIMITAR I : A99 is a full frame camera A77 crop 1.5XDOUG H : The A77 is not full frame although it is an excellent cropped frame camera.
FRED R : any one else having a problem with sensor dust i only have the 16-50 lens so i'm not changing lenses all the time only had it 2 months and i have already had one cleaning and it looks like i'm going to need a second already ?BERNARD S : I live in the desert and have only had to clean it once. I got one from the first shipment a couple weeks after it came out.JOHN B : I have had my A77 since April. I use the 18-50mm most of the time but I do use two other lenses on the average of two or three times a month. To date I have had no issue with dust on the sensor.ROBERT J : I've otice very little dust and I switch lenses often at outdoor events. Alternating between the 16-50 and a 300.E RUSSELL S : I have not experienced this, but it is relatively easy to have the A77 clean itself. Check your manual for instructions. I had to have my A350 cleaned by a camera shop once. Is it possible that your camera has a defect or a less-than dustless assembly location? RusSJAMES S : No problems thus far. I've had the camera almost a year now and I'm very satisfied with its performance and the quality of the images.VICKY M : Yes, I've cleaned mine about 2 times & I only bought it in March. I have horrible problems with it causing me to spend a ridicules about of time fixing my photos in Photoshop. Let me know if you find a permanent solution to this very annoying problem.BEVERLY M : Haven't had any problems.RODGER S : I do change lenses, but not often, and I try to keep the camera body facing down and be quick about it, but I've still gotten dust on the sensor. I've been able to clean it myself with a blower and lenspen.PAUL H : No problrm here after almost a year with many lens changes as I have three lenses.DAN A : I have the camera for almost 1 year and had no issues w/ it whatsoever, incl. having dust on the sensor.Salman A : I have had it for almost a year and regularly change several lenses. It's been on many trips and used outdoors, indoors etc. I have yet to encounter a single dust spot. I can't explain why you are having that problem.
Shopper : What is the origin of this product? What country is it made in?WILLIAM A : Body is made in Thailand, lens in China.ROBERT J : My box says, "Made in Thailand."SCOTT S : Mine is an early-production version, so the camera was produced in Thailand. That facility may be closed now due to flooding last year. The lens (16-50mm f/2.8) was built in China.Joseph M : Most of it is assembled in Thailand.RODGER S : According to the box and the information plate on the bottom of the camera, it was made in Thailand. The base of the lens says made in China.MICHAEL M : ThailandDAN A : ThailandPAUL H : My A-77 body was made in Thailand and the two lenses, that I have, were both made in China.

Superb camera.

I spent a while reviewing the various options available and as I already had an SLT-A65 decided to keep in the Sony range so I could keep all the lenses I'd already purchased. The A77V has fitted in very nicely, my wife has the "hand me down". I plumped for the A77V over the mark 2 version mainly because I don't feel much need to be able to use the wifi feature.

Glad to have a Sony A77ii

The A77ii - much to be appreciated and already much achieved. I have spent the last 2 weeks familiarising my way around the settings without being intimidated. Really looking forward to fullfilling its promise.

Fantastic Imaging Device

I was very late to the Sony SLT cameras, but was always intrigued to try them out, but never got round to it. Now I am very pleased that I took the plunge and bought the Sony ST-A77v camera. It is excellent. I've had my Sony SLT-A77v just over a week and I am absolutely loving it. The image quality is excellent with great dynamic range and detail. The features, build quality and design is a joy to use. Having used Canon and Nikon systems for years, my first Sony DSLT shows real innovation in photographic equipment. The OLED viewfinder is a revelation. I love the real time effect changes as I adjust my exposure settings. Unlike a classic optical viewfinder, I get to see how my exposure will actually look before capturing the image. I have paired my SLT-A77v with the SAL1650 DT16-50mm f2.8 SSM lens and the results are fantastic. What a quality pairing of camera and lens. Weather sealed so I can shoot in any and all weathers without concern, AF is fast, accurate and the images are beautiful at ISO up to 6400 (where a bit of noise creeps in). Some people have complained about noise at higher ISO, and it is true, there is noise, but the images the A77 captures, can preserve detail with mid level post production noise reduction applied. With 24.3MP at your disposal, applying more aggressive noise reduction and then resizing the image downwards, creates more the usable and highly detailed images (just as I did with my Nikon D800 36.3MP images at high ISO). Considering most images used these days are online, using the highest ISO available to the A77 and then resizing the images downwards, still makes very usable images. I hope Sony continue supporting the SLT cameras in their Alpha range. Having converted recently, I plan on using them for years to come.

Really good camera

I’ve been using this camera for a couple of years but due to a lot of time spent travelling (with an RX100m3 on my back) I’m still getting to grips with all the features.

All round great camera and brilliant in low light

I purchased this camera a month ago to add to my existing A77 & A77ii bodies and would not purchase any other make of camera as Sony use the leading technology and have great customer support should you require it.

Totally amazing camera

With just a couple of exceptions this camera is everything I could ever imagine I need (or want). I wear glasses and with other DLSR's I need to look at the back screen for information and review an image. What a pain glasses on, off, on, off.... with the A77 and most other Sony cameras it's all in the viewfinder so I never have to look at the back screen. Wonderfil images and I find the menu system very intuitive and easy to use. 2 Gripes - there's no tethered system - would be so useful in the studio or photoshoot with a client and why the unique hot shoe? That said the Sony flash and wireless capabilities are superb.

Purchased the A77ii for sports photography as the A65 was limited. The sticky autofocus is a great feature.

Sony A77V upgrade from Sony A700

Bought this to complement my 2 existing Sony A700's with a view to fully migrating over (next purchase may be the A77V mkII) if I find the all enhanced features & the electronic viewfinder especially, suits all my needs.

Great features. Right Size and Weight

I bought this camera recently, as my KonicaMinolta 5D packed in. My main camera to date has been the Sony A450, which I find is a nice camera. No frills, it does what I want. Some years ago, I bought the Sony A37 on a whim, and I find it rather small for my large hands, so it lies on a shelf. Now I did look at the Sony A850 and A900, because I have a lot of Minolta AF full frame lenses, but I found that the prices asked for the bodies were out of my league. So I settled for the Sony A77 after reading revues, all mainly positive. I am not disappointed, and I am glad that I made this decision.

Excellent features and easy to access them

I have this camera over a year and am a member of a camera club. The A77 is very easy to use and has an excellent range of features including the 'translucent mirror that allows you to see what the photo is going to be before you shoot it. It is hard to fault but like all top of the range cameras you need to get to become familiar with the high-end features to get to really love it. In my work the fact that it has a pop-up flash and GPS metadata are quite important.

Sony A77 a good all round performer.

I have owned the A77 for a couple of months, and still have the A65 as well. They both feel good in the hand, although the A77 feels like, and is a more capable camera. I was impressed with its tracking focus facility, and the accuracy of it's exposures. A good quality multi directional screen is very handy for awkward shots like Macro etc. I am very happy with my choice of cameras, and there are plenty of good quality lenses on offer, both from Sony ad the older Minolta range. Love this camera.

a77v....with GPS

I bought this a77V to replace my aging a33 and to alongside my a65V. I was disappointed that Sony decided to drop the GPS....which i have found very useful with my a65. I did not want a 77mk2 as the GPS had been remove and Wifi added....!!!!!!. I hunted for sometime trying to find a 77, only various site selling secondhand and you had to buy without trying and trust the seller!. I was lucky to found a brand new one from Camera Jungle following an add in the sky at night mag. I have to say they were really nice people to deal with. The camera is similar but slightly better then the a65 and as it seems Sony in their wisdom dropped GPS...i better look after these cameras. As you can see i like Sony cameras and used them for years. I photograph sceneries...mountains , auroras and from astro pictures also. I was extremely happy to find a brand new a77V but Sony dropping the GPS is a real backward step.

Clever at the expense of being practical

Do we really need all those megapixels? The smaller the pixel, the smaller the area for gathering photons. I'd have preferred fewer, bigger pixels to cope with real world issues like low light noise rather than more and more pixels trying to out resolve the lens. The viewfinder is an interesting idea, but you lose the first couple of seconds to a bright white blur as the camera adjusts the gain and can't see properly in bright sun. The pellicule mirror is the real deal breaker for the SLT and why I'm moving away from the Sony/Minolta platform. It combines the worst of mirror and mirror less technology in one package, surpassing them both for inconvenience. The mirror is apparently unclean-able for anything that won't shift for a blower. Factor in the cost and inconvenience of sending away for this expensive replacement.

Sony SLT A77

I have had my Sony A77 for 6 months, I an safely say that it is one of the best camera's I have ever had. I have had Nikon & Cannon but it doesn't matter what I write about my Sony if you are stuck in a groove of tradition of Nikon & Cannon. I never thought I would ever change from Nikon but I am so glad I did. Now I have a new flexible system of photography which even professionals admit the quality is good ( those who are not brainwashed by Nikon or Canon) Come on people there are other cameras out there.

Great camera.

I have had the A77v for two and a half years and found it excellent in every respect. It does everything I want to a high standard. I came through from film cameras with Minolta, graduated to digital with a Sony A100 and, having had very good results with that camera plus compatible equipment, purchased the A77v with the power grip. I'm very glad I did. A great camera for any type of photography. Intuitive and easy to use for beginner to expert.

I would rate the camera a lot higher but ....

So I actually love this camera. But I have to give it one star rating because I have only had it for 3 months and it already broke. The camera is technically still working but the front dial control has a rubber belt with knobby teeth for advancing the dial forward or back. Well the rubber belt has cracked all the way through. I had barely used the camera and it broke. I had to send it in costing $85 for shipping with insurance. Now I have to wait. Hopefully it gets back before my baby is born. She is due anytime starting next week and was the reason I decided to upgrade.

A77 v1 and A77 v11 What a difference!!

I bought my first A77 some two to three years ago and was very impressed with all that was demanded from it then I read independent reviews on the A77 v11 and bought that model a few weeks ago and so far I am delighted with the results this camera coupled with the Sony Zeiss 16-80 has given me.There are some downsides for example the hotshoe will not work with my older Sony flash unit (expensive at the time of purchase) and to buy an adaptor for the camera I feel is "taking a liberty!!!) I use adobe photoshop 6 and now my raw files will not import so I have to use adobe DNG converter or the Sony RAW converter which is not as versatile as the Sony system(the Adobe converter is a free download). Am I satisfied with my purchase well "yes" is the short answer and I look forward to more outings with this camera and other lenses and I will still be using the A77 v1 which is also pleasing to use and handle.

Very capable camera

I bought this to replace a damaged A550. The extra features are proving to be very useful. Have taken about 100 images so far, both in JPEG & RAW. The compression algorithms for JPEG are very good. Have not yet had chance to use all the features but those I have used, eg, panorama have worked very well.

Innovative camera

By Greg M.

Summary:First off let me say that I have been with Olympus since the beginning starting with the E500 and currently use the E5. I have never owned another DSLR other than Olympus. On a whim I purchased a Sony Nex 3 because I was so intrigued with it. The DXO marks really put it up there with some high end cameras. From there I went to the 5n. I fell in love with the IQ and then started looking into Sony DSLRs. I almost picked up an a580 but decided to wait untill the release on the a77. Afte...

I bought my first Sony A77v over 2 years ago and loved it so much that after having an accident with it I bought another one just before Christmas. I think it would take a lot for me to change.

Step up to an incredible shooting experience with this a77 DSLR camera. Featuring Sony's top-of-the-line Translucent Mirror Technology, you can focus and shoot simultaneously for fast, precise performance and continuous shooting of up to 12 frames per second, complete with continuous auto focus. Capture amazingly-detailed images that make for gorgeous enlargements thanks to an impressive 24.3-megapixel sensor.

The world's first DSLR to offer a choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or richly cinematic 24p movie modes all at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, you can capture incredible, high quality AVCHD or MP4 videos of all your memorable moments (records in 29-minute segments). A Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder offers remarkable resolution and high contrast for outstanding depth, plus allows you to view setting adjustments in real time for the best possible picture.

Sony SLT-A77 Features

  • 2nd Generation Translucent Mirror Design: Other DSLRs can shoot. Or they can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. They cannot do both at once. Sony changes all that with the award-winning Translucent Mirror Technology system
  • World's first OLED viewfinder: There's never been anything quite like the Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder. For size, speed and brightness even after sunset, this is a gem. It begins with 2359K dots for amazing resolution and high contrast ratio for incredible depth
  • Full-time Phase Detection AF: You get fast, accurate auto focus in every mode-even HD Movie and Live View-thanks to Sony's exclusive Translucent Mirror Technology
  • Rugged, magnesium alloy body: The SLT-A77 is built for the real world with a magnesium alloy body that combines high strength with light weight. Ports, doors and controls are also weather-resistant for smooth operation under adverse conditions
  • Three-way tilt/swivel LCD screen: Tilt it up or down to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Tilt and swivel over the camera for self-portraits
  • 6-image layering: Leverages the fast BIONZ processor to capture six images in a fraction of a second and then combine the data. The result is one incredible single image that gets a cleaner result in Multi-Frame NR mode or sharper nighttime pictures in Hand-held Twilight mode
  • Auto HDR built into camera: Captures more scene dynamic range than a single exposure can handle-and more range than photo film. Combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot
  • Built-in GPS: An integrated GPS receiver records the location and time of every shot you take and lets you view your images on a map with compatible computer and Internet applications, so you can remember where you took your favorite shots
  • Main Sensor Quick AF Live View: Combines the fast focus of Phase Detection AF with high quality Live View images right from the main sensor. This is made possible by Sony Translucent Mirror Technology
  • Graphic Display: Clarifies the relationship between aperture and shutter speed, as well as the effect each has on photographic results
  • 1200-Zone exposure metering: Reads exposure directly from the main image sensor. Choice of Multi, Center and Spot metering accommodates a full range of shooting situations
  • Up to 530 Shots of battery life: Take up to 530 shots on a single charge with Sony Stamina battery power. Sony's InfoLITHIUM battery system enables you to see the percent of power remaining, so you can keep shooting in confidence
  • Built-in Flash (GN12): To help you shoot more effectively, the camera includes a built-in flash (Guide Number 12) that can also trigger a wireless accessory flash. The integrated hot shoe enables you to expand your lighting options with a range of accessory flashes
  • Sony Exmor technology: Conventional image sensors use only a handful of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters, which can slow you down. The Exmor sensor provides more than 5,600 column-parallel A/D converters. This helps enable continuous shooting at up to 12 frames per second
  • Smile Shutter technology: Captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply select the Smile Shutter mode and the camera takes the picture automatically. You can prioritize children or adults and adjust the smile sensitivity
  • HD Movies at 60p, 60i, or 24p: Capture spectacular HD Movies. This is the world's first DSLR to offer a choice of super-smooth 60p, standard 60i or cinematic 24p, all at Full HD 1920x1080 resolution
  • Full-Time Live View in LCD or EVF: You can use both the LCD monitor and OLED Electronic Viewfinder for composing shots in Live View. Both provide a what-you-see-is-what-you-get preview of white balance, focus, depth of field, exposure and 100% framing accuracy, plus informative on-screen displays
  • Object Tracking AF: Locks onto a specified object and maintains focus even as the subject moves. Unpredictable subjects stay in focus even while zooming. You can concentrate on composition without worrying about focus
  • Dual control dials: Perfect for experienced shooters, dual control dials provide direct, hands-on access to two settings at a time
  • Multi-frame NR: Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity
  • 3D Sweep Panorama Mode: Capture vast scenic vistas and 16:9 shots in spectacular 3D. As you sweep across the panorama, the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television
  • Shot Result Preview: See the results before you take the shot. This preview takes the guesswork out of camera settings by showing the effects of the aperture, shutter and DRO settings on the depth of field, motion and dynamic range
  • ISO 16000 sensitivity: Incredibly clear low-light pictures without sacrificing detail, made possible by the low-noise Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor and refined BIONZ image processor
  • Upgraded BIONZ image processor: The brain of the camera is a Sony's BIONZ image processor substantially upgraded for the demands of 24.3 megapixel photography
  • SteadyShot INSIDE stabilization: Image stabilization reduces blur by compensating for camera shake. Typical DSLR systems build image stabilization into selected lenses only
  • P/A/S/M exposure modes: The camera offers a full range of controls from the beginner's AUTO+ mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual
