julie S : I am currently using the sony a300. I am looking to upgrade... I love my sony but want more megapixels...will my a300 lens work with the a77? is this worth the upgrade?? Thanks for your helpROBERT P : Quite sure that all the Alpha lens are interchangeable. Check with your Adorama sales rep. I love my A77 - I moved up form the A700 and am very happy. This is a really good camera, many features. Hope this helps. Good luck.MANUEL A : I unknown the 300 features, but I asume the lens will be universal among the alpha series except the E format. The a77 by itself is a fantastic camera, with so many features, to keep the main always active creating, with out technical limitations, the only missing thing is not full frame, despide of that, it is amazing, fantastic resolution, so versatile, maybe low light, not as good as other, but still not an issue for me, and I do a lot of night photography, action photography. I was a professional photographer for years, i love photography, but i do not may my living from it any more. I will recomended the a77with my eyes closed.RICHARD S C : I have owned the Minolta to Sony since 1970 these the Sony a 77 is the best camera that I have ever own . My research is yes your lenses will work with the new A 77 Sony , I currently use all Tamron lensesRICHARD Z : Please call the Sony help line and ash them if the lens you have will work with the A-77.JIM C : Yes the upgrade is well worth the value, but Sony is coming out with the A99 & A7R that might be worth looking at before making your purchase. I love my Sony cameras and lens and think they are the best in the industry !JERRY T : Absolutely, you more than double your megapixels moving from the Sony Alpha 300 and the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 has one of the highest burst speed in its class (12 fps); If you have the cash, I would recommend the upgrade, you will not be disappointedREYNOLD S : your a300 lens will work on the a77--the a77 is a very fine camera---- more megapixels than most photographers need I love the Panoramic feature the most--- have taken panoramic photos for many years during the film age.BRUCE S : Yes, the lenses from your A300 should work fine. My first Sony was an A100 and the lenses work fine and even my older minolta lenses work well. If this is a kit lens that came with the A300 you may want to upgrade to a sharper lens because of the higher megapixels in this camera. If you don't need the ruggedness of the A77 you could go with the A65. It has the same features but without the weather sealing or rugged body. Keep in mind that most lenses aren't weather sealed. I have two A77 bodies and really like them. Good luck.HUNG N : Yes. A77 is a whole lot better. If you want to use your A3000 lens with the A77, you need to purchase Minolta/Konica Minolta Maxxum A-mount lenses LA-EA1/LA-EA2 adaptor.CHRISTINE K : This camera is amazing. The pictures I have taken are the best ever. I love the speed. We were on an Alaskan cruise in June & one excursion was whale watching. I was the only one who got pictures of the whale as it dove because I could take multiple shots with just a press of a button. Wonderful pictures of the whale's tale complete with water dripping off the tale. Colors are true & they make wonderful crisp enlargements. I think your lens should work. I say go for it.ROBERT A : The a77is a wonderful camera and is superior to all previous Sony cameras. The EVF may take some getting used to but you should love it and the benefits it offers. You can see the effects of exposure comp white balance and manual focusing is a breeze with the focus peaking feature. It is comparable with every Sony lens and every Minolta Maxxum lens ever made too. I suggest getting the kit lens, 16-50 f2.8 with it. Fantastice lens and a bargain as a kit.MIKE C : Yes, all the lens you are now using will work with the A77, which is a great camera and a nice step up from the a300 you'll be very happy.MICHAEL R : Yes, your old lens will work, but the lens you have is not sharp enough to show all the extreme resolution and sharpness that the a77 is capable of. It takes a very sharp lens like the 16 to 50 f2.8 kit lens for the A77 . The kit lens is Sony's best lens right now. It is sharp at all aperatures. Sigma has a 18 to 35 f1.8 lens that is extremely sharp at all aperatures. These two lenses sell for just under $800 each. You probably wouldn't want both of these lenses because they are two simular in zoom range. The Sony is a little bit more versatile because it has wider zoom range. If you can't afford one of these lenses and want maximum sharpness you can buy a Sony 50mm f1.8 or used Minolta 50mm f1.8 AF lens in excellent condition from between $100 and $170. If your concerned about spending money, the Sony SLT-A65v is a cheaper version of the SLT-A77. Its plastic instead of magnesium,it doesn't have waterproofing, it doesn't as many advanced features, but it has a lot of advanced features, and it has the same sensor, resolution, and sharpness. It is about $400 cheaper which you could use towards one of the extremely sharp zoom lenses for it from Sony or Sigma. The SLT-A77 and SLT-A65 are both excellent cameras and take the same lenses. When they first came out only the most expensive full frame cameras costing thousands of dollars more, had more resolution. I get excellent sharpness on 16x20s with my SLT-A77 with my Sony 16 to 50 f2.8 lens.LOUIS L : I basically did the same thing. I have the older Alpha 7, which is not a bad camera, but like you I wanted the higher megapixel. I bought just the new camera with no lens and use all my old lens. I did buy a new 50mm with 1.4 f stop. It is a fixed lens and wanted it for low light.ULRICH T : I have the Alpha 350 and am very pleased with it, but it is relegated to be my 3rd back up. My prime camera is the SLT 77, and I love it. Yes, the lenses that fit on the a300 will fit on the slt 77. That was the reason I bought the body only. I have azoom 18 - 80, a Sigma 90mm macro and a Tamron 70 - 400. All the lenses work perfectly on the SLT 77.HOMER M. S : Yes, although you don't identify which lens you are using, the lens that you are using with the a300 will work fine on the a77 with no problems. I have enjoyed my SLT-a77 very much and glad that I upgraded from the a100 that I had before. I got the a77 righht after it came out and so have had it for well over a year and spent $1,400.00 on it without any lens. I use the lens that I had been using with the a100, the Sony Zeiss 16-80mm. If you are using the kit lens from the a300, you may want to upgrade. The only drawback and complaint that I have with the a77 is that you cannot tether it to your computer. Hope this helps!BRANDON T : Hi Julie - yes, your A300 lens will work on the A77. Both are APS-C sized sensors, so you'll have no problem with that. The A77 is a substantial upgrade to the A300, both in image quality and video, features, build quality and weather resistance. It is however not the best camera for low light photos (the trade off for all those megapixels are increased low light noise), but this can be overcome by shooting in RAW image mode, and learning how to process your own images with Lightroom or the included Sony software. Another concern is with the increased resolution of the A77, your old A300 lens might (and I stress might) not be up to the task of being sharp enough to take advantage of the 24 megapixels of the A77...so you may need or want to upgrade the lens too. But, even with its minor faults, I feel the A77 is one of the best APS-C cameras on the market today.ROBERT E : Frankly the A77 is a trip down another path. Certainly, there are all of the conveniences and strengthes of the SONY brand; that said, once you begin to handle the A77 you most likely will find it difficult to put it down... A moved up from a Sony DSC R-1 (which I still use daily, by the way), to an A100, then the A700--which I dearly loved... a true "work horse" as they say... The A77 is simply that much more above those cameras... Take a look at the side-by side review in DPREVIEW. Look at the 12/shots/second. Really. I've owned Nikons and Canons--am I pleased I moved up to Sony... And yes, all A-mount lenses work with the A77... Enjoy.WILLIAM D : yes the alpha lenses you have work on the a77. The a77 does have some neat features- I would check them out along with the other cameras Sony now offers.RUSSELL K : All Sony lenses that have an A mount should work. The a77 is a great camera. The price on it right now makes it an amazing bargain. I shoot with it and the full frame a99. The quality is excellent. Well worth the upgrade. You'll love the quality of the EVF and the ease of use an SLT makes in shooting in manual mode. My students fully enjoy them. LINDA U : If your a300 uses an a-mount lens then yes it will fit. The a77 is a great camera if you shoot in jpeg, but if you take raw pictures it's not so good. I have both the a77 and the a99 and use both. I love my Sony cameras. The electronic viewfinder (on both cameras) and it's tilting actions are fantastic. I would say yes it's worth the upgrade.NOTE CARDS BY T : I have a Sony A350 and a Minolta 5D and all my lenses interchange with my A77.
Shopper : Brand new, after shooting about 100 shots started making grnding noise when turned off. Th en made it when turned back on and when shooting. Ayone ever have this happen to them?MARILYNN W : No, I have not had that problem, nor have I heard of such a thing. Good luck, maybe consider sending it back to Sony for replacement.GARY W : I have taken over 3000 shots and haven't experienced a grinding noise.ULRICH T : Camera is working fine without the described noise. I shot in different environments without any problems though I haven't been in a desert yet. My guess is that there may be a grain of sand wedged in there somehow. Take a blast of canned air to the affected area, but make sure you do NOT blast happily away. Try to use also a soft toothbrush to scrub gently around the switch. Hopefully this will cure the problem, otherwise it's case for the repair shop. Cheers!!JERRY T : I have never had that happen to me; I would check a couple of things; first, check to see if you have the "sensor cleaning" on, it makes a grinding sound and vibrates; the other thing I would check is the battery, make sure you the battery doesn't have a low charge; after checking those to if you are still having an issue I would evoke the Sony Warranty; Good LuckRICHARD S C : My sony 77has not made a noise when turned off or on . I shoot a lot of birds the sony 77 is the Best wildlife Camera.MIKE C : Try updating the firmware. And check the lens you were using making sure it was seated correctly.LAWRENCE B : I have over 10,000 shots on my A77 and have experienced no problems with this camera. I heard rumor that the Sony plant was flooded during the tsunami. Maybe the camera was one that was involved. Dunno.ROBERT E : As I believe I mentioned earlier, it is not "grinding." A quick review of the camera instructions indicates that the camera is only cleaning the mirror with a very minor vibration and returning the lens to stasis...TERRISS B : the only noise I hear when I turn off the camera I believe the camera is resetting. If you hear a grinding noise I'd contact SonyROBERT E : It isnt a grinding noise. It is setting the lens and cleaning the mirror.MICHAEL R : There is a noise that is normal when shutting off the camera. It shakes the sensor when shutting down to clean dust off the sensor so you don't have dust spots on your prints. Sony started doing this since the A100 came out and is on other Sony cameras since then. It also shakes when you turn on the camera. It's just cleaning off your sensor.DANNY K : This Sony DSLR model sends the lens' focus gear ring back to a specific spot before locking. It may be the lens making noise. I hear whirring noise (not grinding) and see focus ring turn when I turn my camera on and off.TIMOTHY B : It sounds like something is wrong. I've had my SLT-A77 for quite some time & shot thousands of images with it & have never heard any grinding noise. My suggestion is to send it to Sony for diagnosis & repair. You can initiate that process online. Since it is brand new it should be covered under the warranty.MAURICIO R : Well... did you do something with the camera? anything? I used the A200 one day I put it on the tripod and something happen and the camera ends in the floor. Since that incident the camera started to made some noise, well latter I realized the sensor frame got broken. The a77 is working well? if you feel is something wrong with your camera, do not wait, use the guarantee. For me the a 77 is a really good camera. I hope everything is going well for you. MRBMIKE H : Sounds like it might be auto-focus gear since that's really the only thing that uses any gears. Try a different lens or re-mount your lens. If it does it with a different lens it could be a bad gear in the camera. If the noise goes away after re-mounting the lens, it could be that it wasn't mounted completely and the auto-focus connection between the lens and camera wasn't tight. If the noise remains on only one lens, it could be the gear in the lens. During shooting try turning off the auto-focus and shoot manual focus, if the noise goes away this will confirm the problem. If you have only around 100 shots, you should be within your exchange time for the camera.KEN M : I have had no problems since my purchase 15 months ago. I have shot nearly 10,000 frames with no major problem. My only complaint is the flash seems to want to pop up all the time.LILIANA S. G : Hello. I never had this problem. Try change the firmware. Or take the camera for service.MIRIAM W : Thankfully has not happened to me.LINDA U : No, neverCHRISTINE K : The only time I get a sound when turning on my camera is the lens focusing. If that us not the case it's still under warranty get a new one. It's an amazing camera. My pictures stand up to any professional LOUIS L : It is probably the auto focus. Remember too that all lens are not the same. Non Sony lens might do that. I would keep watch on it and check the quality of your photos to make sure that your focus is right on. I haven't had that problem, but I do have an off brand zoom that goes from 70-200mm that is a little noisy. Good luckWILLIAM D : Suggest you have it serviced while still under warranty. Doesn't sound good.RANDY E : Haven't had this issue but try a different lens if you have one.WILLIAM L : Nope hasn't happened to me.HOMER M. S : It never happened to me, and I got one of the first ones released.
Jeff G : Do you find the auto focus in video mode adequate? ThanksRONALD B : I think adequate is a good description. Not perfect but ok.ELAINE H : Sorry, can't answer that question because I haven't used video yet. However for still photography I find the A77 to be absolutely GREAT!MICHAEL M : I've had my alpha 77 for a while now and am completely happy with the af for both stills and video. I am very, very amped over this camera...i love it. Very user friendly! Sincerely...dan moore 661 428 1396MICHAEL G : Yes, very much so. I shoot a lot of high speed action for my son and his friends on their skate boards and I've never had an issue with the auto focus. The camera in whole has been amazing to say the least. I shot with Nikon for years and someone gave me an A65 to try as a back up. Within 2 weeks I bought the A77 and switched to Sony 100%...

Glad to have a Sony A77ii

The A77ii - much to be appreciated and already much achieved. I have spent the last 2 weeks familiarising my way around the settings without being intimidated. Really looking forward to fullfilling its promise.

Really good camera

I?ve been using this camera for a couple of years but due to a lot of time spent travelling (with an RX100m3 on my back) I?m still getting to grips with all the features.

All round great camera and brilliant in low light

I purchased this camera a month ago to add to my existing A77 & A77ii bodies and would not purchase any other make of camera as Sony use the leading technology and have great customer support should you require it.

Great Camera.

Purchased the A77ii for sports photography as the A65 was limited. The sticky autofocus is a great feature.

Excellent features and easy to access them

I have this camera over a year and am a member of a camera club. The A77 is very easy to use and has an excellent range of features including the 'translucent mirror that allows you to see what the photo is going to be before you shoot it. It is hard to fault but like all top of the range cameras you need to get to become familiar with the high-end features to get to really love it. In my work the fact that it has a pop-up flash and GPS metadata are quite important.

A77 v1 and A77 v11 What a difference!!

I bought my first A77 some two to three years ago and was very impressed with all that was demanded from it then I read independent reviews on the A77 v11 and bought that model a few weeks ago and so far I am delighted with the results this camera coupled with the Sony Zeiss 16-80 has given me.There are some downsides for example the hotshoe will not work with my older Sony flash unit (expensive at the time of purchase) and to buy an adaptor for the camera I feel is "taking a liberty!!!) I use adobe photoshop 6 and now my raw files will not import so I have to use adobe DNG converter or the Sony RAW converter which is not as versatile as the Sony system(the Adobe converter is a free download). Am I satisfied with my purchase well "yes" is the short answer and I look forward to more outings with this camera and other lenses and I will still be using the A77 v1 which is also pleasing to use and handle.

Massive upgrade from the original A77. 79 autofocus points is more than enough and a better performer in low light

Love It.

I now have 2 of these. Great Camera and Low Price. I had many Minolta Lenses for the Film days. This Camera lets Me use all of the older Glass that I bought many years ago. It has a very fast focusing system and easy to use. You don't have to spend the big bucks to have a Great Camera.

Digiscoping

I recently purchased a Swarovski STX 30-70x95 spotting scope and TLS-APO digital camera adapter for digiscoping. I have a Sony a99 but it has a vignetting problem so I purchased the Sony a77 because it solved the vignetting problem. The a99 is a full frame camera and the a77 isn't so that is reason for the vignetting on the a99. The TLS-APO isn't set up for full frame cameras. If I use the a99 for digiscoping I have to crop the photo using software, which I can do but that is another step I don't want to do.

Fantastic camera, period.

This camera is two years old. Yet, Nikon's last two cameras, d7000 and d7100, although both quality cameras, just can't compare with the features this camera has. Nikon is $300. more for their d7100. Both cameras have 50% magnesium bodies and 1/8000 of a second shutter speed. Both have excellent still pics. Sony a77 has excellent video and 12 frames per second at 24 mp. I also love the built-in GPS, the feature list is endless.

So happy with my purchase!

The Sony a77 is a remarkable camera that is on the cutting edge. It handles well, and fits the hand perfectly. It's fast, well laid out with the controls, and is a joy to use. The EVF is totally amazing with it's clarity! I'm so happy that I bought it from Adorama and got a lot of perks as well. Great job, Adorama!

Auto Focus

I gave a review a short time ago that my auto focus stopped working after 14 months of little use. I called Sony and they run me through the entire operation to tell me that it had to be sent in for repairs.Well after going through the menue and all of the info in the manual i came across AF/Shutter and found that i must have turned it off. Auto focus works now.Patience helps. I will call Sony about my find .The only thing i dont like is battery life.Yes i would recommend this camera to a friend.

I love my A77!

For the person who says it has bad low light performance and its a sunny day camera.I am providing proof that is not true. Here is a fast moving bobcat kitten, taken in the wild under the shade of cypress trees on a dark and rainy day. Not just not sunny... there was NO LIGHT!! This was taken at ISO 1000. And I have used ISO1600 with good results too. http://www.flickr.com/photos/feltonphoto/6449650721/ On a sunny day at ISO 200 or 250 or even 320 this camera can get jaw dropping clear low noise photos. You have to know how to use a camera to get the most out of it. I LOVE the EVF !! Let me repeat that, I LOVE THE EVF ! And having 12fps is fantastic. Although I keep it on 8fps most often, as that is usually enough. But 12 fps is awesome to have. 24mp at 12fps, in-camera image stabilization and HD video on a camera this price is unbeatable. The panorama mode works fantastic. And the camera with no mirror slapping up and down with each shot,is very quiet. And the focus is fast and accurate.

Has all the bells and whistles!

All to often folks give kudos to Canon/Nikon and not give any credit to Sony DSLR cameras. I've taken great photos with Minolta/Sony cameras...it's probably the world's best kept secret. I'm truly amazed with the A77.I own 1 film and 3 DSLR cameras - all Minolta/Sony products. I'm not sorry at all!

Great Camera

Heavy, I have an intention tremor which is eased with heavier weight. My last camera was an alpha 100 so the controls required a bit of learning but not much, this camera is less (much less) noisy at higher ISO's so I can use my slower long lenses with out having to buy new lenses. auto focus is much better and faster. my remote shutter works with this one also. The best part is having an auto focus video, this is my first combo so I no longer have to drag two cameras. Went to dog beach last weekend, great for going between stills and video. The best part is one handed video and how quickly it can focus close up and then distance.

i use this camera mostly for wildlife photography...it is exceptionaly good in most appilcations...it is nosisy in lower light and at higer than 800 ISO's...it is capable of outstanding pictures on sunny days...but not that great on cloudy ones...the 24 mg photos have plenty room for cropping...detail is good...the video mode is outstanding...if sony would provide us with a good fast low light camera they would own thew market because everything but that is premier in this camera..

Fantastic Camera

I have this camera for four months now. I usually take my Panasonic LX5 on my hikes through Southern Sierra for past years. I decided to take my A77 on my hikes this time. It is definitely heavier and bulkier to log it around on a hike, but the images are so clear with such beautiful high resolutions. The Sweep Panorama mode is amazing stitching the photos together automatically for you. The contrast and clarity are simply amazing. Even with sunrise and sunset, it still worked very well, thanks to the companion fast 2.8/16-50 SSM Sony Lense.
