Makes life for your right arm a lot easier when shooting in portrait orientation. Duplicate controls minimize repositioning of right hand when changing camera settings which helps in capturing that one-in-a-lifetime moment. Added weight and bulk is a small price to pay for the added functionality and convenience it provides. Just be ready to be approached by unknowledgeable security personnel for using a "professional" camera.

I currently have one of these on my Minolta Maxim 650SI. I've become so use to it a DSLR feels empty in my hands without one. Doesn't add that much extra weight. Fits good and has all the buttons. Really like the ability to add a 2nd battery for long shoots and back-up. Has a nice little balance tab in the front to help balance the camera when sitting on a flat surface. I was using the 18-70MM or 24-105mm lens at the time. My 28-200 Tamaron might make it tip because of it's weight. Was a necessary addition to my Sony A700. Plus I got a discounted price when purchased. I was looking for this in the deal as well.

If you want to shoot a lot of pictures without worry of battery life then you need to get this grip. Not only does it look and feel good but allows you the flexibility to take pictures in various positions and settings. The feel is excellent as well as the build quality with the same controls that are on the camera, it deserve a design excellence award and is a must have for serious photography. It is easily attached and adds minimal weight but adds a nice professional looking bulk to the A700
