Quick setup - portable system

I use this system to do portraits when the customer requests on location shooting with their own props. The only thing I'm experiencing negative is that when using a longer distance between stands, the cross bar sags more than I expected from the ads.

So Im a full time commercial and promotional photographer and this is my second background system. I purchased this because the fittings that the cross bar goes on on my old system broke off and I needed an upgrade. I read the reviews on this background system and decided to give it a try. I use the savage 9' rolls mainly and occasionally use the savage 12' rolls for large composites and catalogue work. The first day or so everything seemed to work fine, although I was a little surprised how light and thin the stands were. We change the background sometimes 4-5 times a day depending on how many outfits I do that day and instantly this thing started to fail on me. The clasps that tighten each extension section are really cheap and we noticed that the stands would start to come down on their own as we were rolling the background up. I had to tighten the clasps multiple times and it still would barely hold them. If you want to use a 12' roll of paper on here forget it!!! It can be adjusted to fi the 12' roll buts its so flimsy that we used multiple A clamps to secure each section for fear of it collapsing during use. If you have ever felt a 12' paper roll you know very well its super heavy and only top notch stands will hold it securely. All in all this isn't a bad stand for someone who puts a 9' roll up and maybe leaves it up for a long time with few changes. If you tend to change the background often then I HIGHLY recommend you get something better and way more sturdy. Its just flimsy, thin and the section clasps on each stand are a joke. I was surprised the reviews were so fantastic. I guess I just use things way more than most.

Good price when you are starting up

Im just starting to build my studio and for the price of this background support, it does not get any better. This is also good when you are doing home shooting. Its not that heavy and easy to set up.

JTL - 5024 - Save your money

By

from kc, mo  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I purchased the JTL 5024 B-1012, 12'3" Wide Background Support System by JTL with the hopes of acquiring a reasonably useful and durable product. The stands for the background support are adequate but a bit on the light side. The cross bar reminds me of a lightweight tent pole from my childhood. The pole is flimsy and the four sections connect via the ends sliding into one another and a weak popup button serves as the lock to secure the poles together. I intended on having the ability to use two, three or all four of the sections but the ends are different lengths not allowing them to be interchangeable and I called in with the intent to return this item. I have been an Adorama customer for some time without complaint but this item is not up to usual standard of merchandise I have acquired here in the past. I would not recommend this item.

A good start but falls short

By

from KC  -  Semi-pro Photographer

I purchased this stand with a desire to acquire a background stand with a flexible width as it said it had four sections to the top bar. The problem is that the button in the ends does not lock on any setup short of all of the sections being put together at full width. It would seem a very minor point to make certain that the female to male sections had the same distance to the pop out button lock. The frame is a bit on the flimsy side for the price consisting of a hollow 4 section tube of metal comprising the top bar held up by two rather lightly constructed stands. I would not recommend this stand to a friend.

Better than expected

By

We ordered this without the usual amount of research and vetting for Studio equipment; but hey, it was on sale. It is a significant upgrade from our previous travel stands. The quick locks are fast and easy to use (btw, if you're fiddling with the allen key right out of the box, you're probably doing it wrong) and the four section cross bar offers quite a bit of flexibility. The kit is a little heavier and bulkier, but the added durability and strength will be a huge help. (the old BG set was broken when a groomsman stepped on and broke the leg) The included weight bag it fantastic. Why they include only one when there are two support stands is beyond me. I'll have to purchase a second. The only complaint I have is the carry bag. The compartmentalized interior is very easy to use and keeps the parts and pieces organized. However, there is not small tools pocket to store the allen key and there is not enough extra room to store weight bags, even empty. ***Also, the three prong clips DON'T CLOSE. I'm glad there's a zipper because otherwise, the bag couldn't be secured. I'll post photos later, but the physical size of the closure hardware doesn't fit.

Just what I was looking for!

I just shot a four day Dance Studio. The background stand was easy to set up and take down. Held up a 9 foot roll of paper. First time I have used it, very happy.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
DANA G  Just a good value for the money, I would buy this again.
Shopper  What gauge metal are the stands and poles?
BURT R  I do not know the gauge of the metal of the stands or poles. The stands are VERY adequate for the background support. The poles which the backgrounds are hung on do have some sag in them, and if you are using a cloth backdrop without it being wound on a core, you will have some ripples to deal with. I use the very small bungee hooks to pull the backdrop taunt. When the backdrop or paper is on a core, there is NO PROBLEM with this support system.
