Shopper : Where Can I get replacement parts? plastic housing for top of legs is broken so tightening screw fell out, on one stand.BRUCE C : Hi, i would contact the manufacture for parts at Photography Lighting Inc. 3419 Via Lido Suite 411 Newport Beach, CA 92663ANDREW R : For tech support or troubleshooting, spares or repairs I'd recommend contacting the manufacturer.
Shopper : What is the stands made out of? Thanks ScottKEN P : Heavy duty aluminumMARK Y : It seems to be made of aluminum. However, It is very sturdy. I have only used on a couple occasions now, but have been satisfied with it's workability. One area that could use some help is the two separate crossbar sections (that run across the top). One of them continues to "jam" on me when I work to collapse the bar to make it shorter.ROBERT N : Scott, The item you are asking about, I found it to be of very good quality, the stands are sturdy. They support the back drop very well. They are made of metal. The adjustment rings for telescoping the tubes up are very good, you do not have to fight with it. One person can set the stands and back drop, it just takes a little longer. When packed away they do not take up a lot of space. Hope you will like them as much as I do.ED F : hi Scott, This stands and cross piece are made out of thin steel tubing. The tubing is about as thin as it possibly could be, without making the stands flimsy. The clamps which lock the tubes together appear to be cast aluminum, but I can't be sure of this. I'm guessing from experience with this level of equipment; the clamps will be the weak link. (Always carry gorilla tape. ) The stands themselves are the usual budget priced light stands everyone has. The benefit of buying this support system is the cross piece, and the duffel bag.RONALD P : Mostly aluminum tubing and flat bar for the main structural parts (steel rivets and fasteners) with injection molded plastic for some of the trim pieces (what you would normally find on any camera tripod you can buy today). I have some quality issues with the carry bag (typical Chinese low quality), but not a deal stopper.CASEY J : Metal poles with hard plastic adjustment clamp mechanisms for length adjustment. They are well made. The metal is not heavy, but is strong/rigid.JENNIFER P : Hello Scott, I just used mine for the first time yesterday. I love it. I'm not sure what it's made of but it's med gauge piping. not thin. the bar is very nice and it held my backdrop cloth very well. I was a little wobbly at first but I just moved the one stand in alittle and it took care of it. I bought it for baby and little children portraits. So I'm not going to use it at it's 8 or 10 foot span.DAVOR G : Looks like steel.... Very sturdy for the length... you feel the weight.
ROSS M : Hello, What is the length of stands and cross bar when closed in the case?ARTHUR K : The packed length is about 36 inches.CHIP L : Tripod stand = 35" Cross bars = 32" and 33" (The bar with the threaded connector for joining the two bars is an inch longer. The bag is about 42" long, large and very substantial. More poles or perhaps a tripod could fit in there too. The kit comes with a small tool, but there's no pocket or place to store it. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of. I highly recommend the kit as it can be very useful for hanging more than background and green screen drapesKEVIN P : Less than 3ft nice setKEVIN P : Less tan 3ft really nice setKELLY P : About 3 feet in the bag. Doesnt take up much space, I have an entire studio packed away in a 4 x 6 area until needed. It is very sturdy and a portable studio support system. Plus it is also not heavy, not light weight but not heavy if that makes any sense.NANCY T : The stands and crossbar pieces are about 35-36" when collapsed, and the bag is 40" long. The bag is excellent, BTW, it keeps everything separate so nothing clinks together. Very well made and well designed.

Sturdy stand. Instructions would be nice.

Fairly easy setup and seems sturdy. Only downside is that a setup manual was not included and none can be found online. Seems like a fairly basic thing to include but we figured it out.

Not as Pictured

This is an excellent background stand which easily supports a role of 107" seemless background paper; however, the stands themselves are configured like light stands with a locking mechanism on the top to lock the spigot in place which precludes you from being able to attach the triple bar units which I had wanted to do. Also the bar doesn't have the end caps pictured.

Good overall value.

I don't need any more than this for general background use. It's 12 foot wide and almost 10 foot tall ! This is a very versatile size. The stands are well made and cross bar is pretty good, but I wouldn't put a lot of weight on the cross bar. Very happy with this system.

Simple, Lightweight Support

Nice simple system that doesn't take up much storage space. Sets up in about 5 minutes. Don't forget to buy sand bags to weight down the 2 main stands. I love this system.

Great value

Very compact for travel, two piece crossbar screws together & telescopic also for perfect of your muslins fit by width, though be careful to use only one drop to keep bar from sagging. Sturdy supports.

So Glad

Was in need of new backdrop support the JTL B-912 was on sale for a great price. The top pole being two pieces is very strong, I like the way it's made. Hope to have many years of good use.

Great medium duty support system

The support system is what I expected from reading the description; no surprises. I would call the package a medium duty perfect for traveling. I was most happy with the pocketed carrying bag. The only thing that I would like to see changed is the stud size at the top of each stand. I believe it is metric, M10. (This should be stated in the description/spec.) I would like it to be 3/8 so I could use Manfrotto 186 3/8" FEM THREAD to 5/8" STUD ADAPTER. There may be a similar adapter in metric but I don't have any on hand nor have I looked.

Falls short and not what was pictured

Well...it is not exactly what was pictured...the ends of the cross supports are completely different with just slots cut into the cross bar instead of the corner pieces in the picture. The base on the stands is not wide enough and will make this unstable. I like the cross support, but since it isn't what was pictured, you can't really clamp it to regular light stands...it will just have to sit on top which is not ideal.

Mixed feelings

I don't know what else you would want from the stands; time will tell with the crossbar; really nice case, except for the factory defects. I originally bought a system for use as a backdrop stand. After looking at the quality, because of the kit price, I bought a second to use the stands for light stands. The stands are very easy and quick to set up; excellent air cushioning - would actually reduce the amount of cushioning a bit so they dropped a little faster. I was surprised that the crossbar was a new telescoping design rather than the advertised sectional pole system. I'm not sure why they made the change; as an engineer, I emailed JTL to find out details (so for they have not responded). The cases material is really nice and sturdy, but both cases have zipper and buckle problems. Adorama has directed me to contact JTL for resolution first - have not heard back from JTL yet. If the cases were not defective, this would be a 5 star system. If JTL remedy's the defective cases, they will remain a preferred supplier. If JTL doesn't resolve, we'll see you good Adorama really is in problem resolution.

Strong and steardy, worth the buy

I just received this set today, put it right up without a problem and it is strong. Worked just fine without a problem. I have seamless paper backdrops and I was worried that this would not hold it up, but it held up like a champ. I would definitely recommend getting this, price is good and the product works great. I use this for indoor studio, and may use for mobile shoots also.

Great support - ignore the picture

This is my second JTL backdrop stand - not because the first broke, but because I needed a second one and the first does a great job. It is NOT the backdrop stand on the picture! What you get is quite different: the stands do not have wings on the top, they rather are universal stands that can be used also for lights, etc. The horizontal bars are two (like description says) and they are telescopic (picture is still showing the non-telescopic bars I have on my first JTL stand). Everything is black. It is also up to 12 ft wide... The bars connect to stands with a new connector that seems stable. The screws on one of the connectors were loose, but 20 seconds screwdriver use solved the problem. It also comes with a tool that can be used to faster the quick tensioners on the stands (works well - used with the previous stand!). It is stable enough for a muslin backdrop. If you have vinyl (like I do) they you better have the backdrop on a stable roll, but this is true with almost all backdrop supports. The bag is made to measure and provides great storage for the backdrop stand. I took 1 star away for two really minor problems: the bag somes with plastic closures (and zipper) that do not close very well and tend to break fast and the minor inperfection on finishing quality (see - had to use screwdriver above).

Does the job at home

JTL seems to be a respected name, and I see why. JTL has great pre-sales support, and this seems to be a good design, and has gas drop-assistance, so the segments don't come crashing down when lowering them but rather come down slowly and gently. I've used the set twice already, the included carry bag is great, and I purchased the kit of JTL clamps Adorama carries to use with this and an Adorama backdrop. The whole thing is fairly light, and easy to carry with one hand. My only complaint is that one of the top tubes seems to have not been screwed tightly enough into its socket, as it came out of its socket when I was trying to assemble the kit. But it has not let me down, and I think it is a quality unit. I would buy it again, but I need to call JTL when I get the chance to figure out why the socket issue happened.

More than I expected

For the price, I expected really flimsy equipment but this is more than adequate for my needs. If I were in the business of taking this on location a lot, then I doubt it would hold up to aggressive use for a long time. I imagine that otherwise, the stand would have to be heavy and bulky to withstand that kind of abuse. I prefer it to be lightweight for ease of carrying. It is stable enough that I don't worry about it falling over easily. The carry bag that it comes in is excellent quality and it even fits my heavy Manfrotto tripod with ball head inside with everything else. So considering the price of a good case, you'd be hard pressed to find a decent backdrop support along with it for this price.

Well-designed, sturdy support

This is an excellent value. The suppport is sturdy and the carrying bag is nice. It's lightweight as well. Great product. I would have given it 5 stars except for some slight manufacturing roughness on some metal parts. That said, I would buy it again- no doubt.
