As best I can tell, the GZ-HM690 can take photos at 4 resolution settings:
2400X1344, which is 3.2 megapixels
1920X1080, which is about 2M pixels
1440X1080, which is 1.5M M pixels
and 640X480, which is only 0.3M pixels

Yes, when I recieved my JVC GZ-HM690B Full HD Everio Memory Camcorder, it was brand new in an unopened box. I find Adorama an excellent company to do business with.
