There are a few things that you might expect this deck should do that it cannot, but for the most part you will be pleased with this over-the-top performer. I love how this sits alongside my home gear and looks like another consumer deck. But it out performs everything around it by a long shot. I find most helpful to me when buying is the list of what a piece of equipment cannot do. Here it is: 1) This deck requires all external captures to record to the HDD BEFORE you can create a DVD. 2) You have only a BNC composite input for external sources. 3) MOV support is only for JVC's pro camcorders. 4) To really learn this deck will take more than what the manual can give you. Casual users will have trouble with the deeper functions. 5) As the HDD fills up the basic edit functions slow down considerably. 6) Almost able to create DVDs that look authored...but desperately needs a keyboard for titles. Now here is what it does do. This deck creates the highest quality DVD & Blu-Ray discs possible. There are no shortcuts in quality in any area. It is a solid unit that has traveled across country and never fails me. Its best feature is the high speed dubbing. With your footage edited and ready to transfer from your HDD to a disc you will be amazed at the speed. If all the proper criteria is met (which is not well explained in the manual) your disc of up to 4 hours can be ready in about 3 minutes. It is mind boggling when compared to most everything else under the sun. I shoot to SDHC cards with a prosumer HD camcorder and the card reader/transfer is super. I use this deck for everything in my work and play. It is a one-of-a-kind.
