Fantastic backpack

Actually a 4.5. A very well designed backpack that is set up primarily for camera carrying but can be modified into a regular backpack which is what I am using it for this trip. The negative comments posted from other reviewers are focused mainly on the notion that it will not fit into the carry-on luggage space in an airplane HOWEVER if necessary the FRAME is EASILY REMOVED via a zippered compartment and with a bit of effort reinserted. So on this trip in europe I packed the frame and carried the bag on the plane - NO PROBLEM. Actually on larger planes this isn't necessary but if you need to it is an option. On this trip I removed most of the padding in the camera compartment for extra space and when you do the capacity of the bag is huge. The bag is comfortable to carry with 12kg (26lbs) the limit in Europe for carry-on luggage EVEN WITHOUT the FRAME. Actually the frame fits easily into inside a standard carry on bag for the U.S. (not European which is a bit smaller). I would have rated at 5+ stars if the manufacturer would have given the reinsertion of frame some thought and was a bit easier. If the frame could be broken down (e.g. tent poles or something) transport and storage could even be easier. Other construction considerations would have been a couple of loops on the exterior to hold a sweater or something. Overall this backpack is great - versatile, modular, comfortable to carry.

Impressive so far

I haven't used the bag in the field yet, but did load all my year into it and carry it on my back to test for comfort. This may be the best bag I've ever had (and heaven knows I've owned a lot of camera bags!) It seems exceptionally well made, very sturdy and comfortable on my back. All of my gear fit, and then some. Zippers seem strong and fabric very durable. The only thing I'll want to check in the field is opening the main storage area. Unlike any bag I've owned before, the flap that covers this area opens at the BOTTOM, rather than the top. That is, when the flap is unzipped it must be pulled UP and held up to reveal the contents. Will that prove to be inconvenient or awkward? Time will tell.

Versatile photo bag

Purchased this after much searching, replacing a LowePro bag with an awkward camera gear compartment. Holds a lot more equipment, well padded and accessories plus a laptop and enough room for a soft shell or two. As well as a great tripod strap system, there's a simple to adjust harness. Only downside I've seen so far is that the waist strap does not detach - I likely won't use it since I'm not mountaineering. Zippers and cords are nicely done. Spine system - will have to see what difference that makes - probably in rigidity it will make a difference. With the internal colouring scheme, it's easy to see if you've left a compartment open as well as it being easier to see those black accessories in a dark environment.

Great construction and build

I use this bag to transport my photography equipment and my laptop. This bag is almost indestructible and protects everything inside of it.

It's good,, but not as I have expected

Bumbulebee is very famous and I have dreamed for it for quite a long time...... Thanks to the rebate program and I got one. It's cool, light, strong and easy to use...... However, it is not as spacious as I have thought. The bag looks very huge, but I am not sure where the space goes. The room for the gears looks so limited. So if you have 2 big lens bigger than 70-200mm F2.8 and two bodies, I would suggest you to consider others.

It look big but it have big spot to put more stuff if compare to low pro ., the quality that this company made it really good

The Ultra-Light Bumblebee UL-222 backpack features a combination of technology, materials and design which embody the ultimate essences of Lightweight Protection without compromises. Specially formed foam encased spring steel Spine Guard for ultimate structural protection, light yet durable RipStop fabrics & meshes, Aeriform foams and Spider Webbing straps all join together to create a protective yet fantastically light backpack.

The incredible modularity allows you to make it even lighter by simply removing components that are not necessary for your adventure. The bag is designed with a double compartment concept - In the lower compartment there is room for a Pro DSLR with up to 70-200 F/2.8 lens attached + additional body + 4 lenses + flash + accessories.

Use the modular Aeriform Dividers and Cocoon Pouches to custom fit the interior set-up your exact gear needs. In the upper compartment there is plenty of space for personal effects. When needed the lower compartment can be emptied of the padded dividers and pouches and the zippered partition between the two compartments can be opened to create one large storage space.

Additional storage space is available in the large full length rear laptop slot (will fit most 17" laptops). External top pocket and two side pockets will store personal effects such as phone, wallet, travel documents etc. These can also store small accessories you need rapid access too such as media cards, batteries or filters, while a flexible pocket on the other side will easily carry a water bottle. The double purpose pocket on the bottom front of the bag can be used either for additional storage or as a docking base to secure a small tripod.

What's in the box:

  • Kata Ultra-Light Bumblebee 222 Backpack
  • Tripod Holder
  • Double-Sided Elements Cover
  • Aeriform Camera Strap
  • Kata 5 Years Limited Warranty (Lifetime Warranty After Online Registration)
