Worried that this film would be past it's time. No Problem!

For unrepentent "filmies" like me, Kodak Portra 400 is a good choice when you need 400 speed. It occupies the middle ground between the high contrast of Ultramax 400 and the softness of Fuji Pro 400H. Good color saturation, neutral balance. An excellent general purpose film.

There are not many ISO 400 color films left, but luckly Porta has made the cut. The colors are great, the grain reasonable, and easy to scan.

I love this film. Usually I shoot it straight with one of my old Nikkormats. It also looks bangin' when I push it to 800. I've been all around the world with Portra 400. Someday, I'm sure, it'll be discontinued. Then I'll cry, and switch back to making photocopies of my heinie.

Portra 400 is a real nice film to use. Nice colour tone and range. Fairly fine grain for 400 speed film.

Still holds up to what my expectations were from 400NC (may it rest in peace), a solid film, a future classic!

I used this film in variety of situations including back lit sunsets. i must say this film has very broad latitude for exposure.I exposed for the face but background did not blow out.Something i cant imagine with digital. Skin tones are perfect without any unnatural looks. It feels so real like you can touch it(with correction like smooth skin filter in digital). I am digital shooter but got very impressed with this film. Now I do most of people shot with film. i used some other films as well like superia/kodak gold/cn41 etc but you get what you pay for.

Interesting stuff, almost has a painting like quality to pictures of people. Love the pinks, browns and greens. Compresses the gray scale with the low contrast nature of this material. Where Velvia is Neon, Portra is Pastel.

Kodak Portra is a great film. Period. Its great for portraits, as it has very pleasing skin tones. Its great to work with, and you can use it for shooting anything you can think of. Just load up a roll and go for it!

I shot a few test rolls when doing a family shoot and there were a few problems with proper exposure (my fault), but when I got the film back from the lab it all looked fabulous! Overexposed AND underexposed still looked great. NO muddiness at all in the underexposed frames.

The new PORTRA 400 is the world's finest grain high-speed color negative film. At true ISO 400 speed, this film delivers spectacular skin tones plus exceptional color saturation over a wide range of lighting conditions.
For years, professional photographers have preferred KODAK PROFESSIONAL PORTRA Films because of their consistently smooth, natural reproduction of the full range of skin tones.
In that same tradition, the new PORTRA 400 Film is the ideal choice for portrait and fashion photography, as well as for nature, traveland outdoor photography, where the action is fast or the lighting can't be controlled.
