The Leica M (Black) is the most innovative and versatile M-Camera that the modern M-System has ever created. It unites decades of experience in rangefinder technology with groundbreaking digital technologies. It features a completely newly developed high-resolution full-format CMOS sensor that, in combination with its high-performance processor and the legendary M-Lenses, delivers outstanding imaging results. With Live View, video and new additional focusing methods, it is also the M for photographers who do not wish to miss out on any of what modern digital technology has to offer.

The Leica M features a completely newly designed high-resolution, 24 megapixel CMOS sensor in full 35 mm format. The combination of the camera's image processor and this Leica Max 24 MP sensor guarantees outstanding imaging quality. Its intelligent design and flat pixel architecture enables each individual pixel to gather a particularly large amount of light. This results in images characterized by superior sharpness and maximum spatial resolution. The new M delivers extremely low-noise and richly detailed images, even at higher sensitivities of up to ISO 6400. And now, thanks to the 1080 pixel, full-HD video capability of the Leica M, the impressive imaging quality is available for moving pictures too.

Leica Leica M Features

  • Leica MAX CMOS Sensor: The Leica MAX 24MP CMOS sensor was developed exclusively for the new Leica M, resulting in outstanding image quality even at high ISO's for available light photography in difficult lighting situations
  • Live View and Electronic Viewfinder: The Leica M is the first M camera with Live View. The image can be displayed directly on the display - with full control of depth of field, exposure, composition and focus
  • Focus Peaking: The M in Leica M refers to "Messsucher", the German word for "rangefinder", manual focusing with the help of the superimposed image rangefinder. The Leica M features new focusing aids supported by live view
  • Leica R Adapter M: The Leica R Adapter M is an optional accessory for the Leica M, allowing the use of newer R lenses of all focal length ranges, providing extremely high image quality across the frame
  • Multi-Pattern and Spot Exposure Metering: In both Live View and rangefinder mode, advanced metering methods for exposure control are now available in addition to legacy Leica M center weighted metering
  • Full HD Video Capture: Leica lenses are world renowned for their resolution, color reproduction and attractive bokeh. It is now possible to use these legendary Leica M lenses for 24x36mm format videos - with full HD resolution at up to 25 fps
  • 3" Display with 920000 Pixels, Corning Gorilla Glass Screen Protector: Display resolution so high that you can't see the pixels with the naked eye
  • Splash Water Protected Body: For professional use, even in difficult situations, the body of the new Leica M is protected against splash water, moisture and dust
  • Leica Maestro Image Processor: Photographing at more than 3 frames per second, faster image processing, energy-saving electronic systems and a higher capacity rechargeable battery mean that the new Leica M can withstand intensive use, without needing to recharge the battery

Leica Leica M Reviews Powered by TurnTo®

I ordered the new Leica M on September 24, 2012. I am moving so I just updated my ship and bill. I have no idea if Adorama has shipped this to others or where I stand on the waiting list. I had pre ordered the Canon Mark 11 and they were terrific with follow up and delivery but so much time has gone by I think buyers should get some idea what to expect. On Sept. 24 it will be one year. Please note I had to fill out the review questions or this would not post. Robert Sachs

Questions about this item:

cem h  what would be my options in lenses if I bought this camera?
MIKE S  Many. Leica makes a full line of lenses in a variety of price ranges. The finder has built-lines for 28, 35, 50, 75, 135. Voigtlander and Ziess both make M mount lenses for this camera. None are auto focus, or auto aperture. All have depth of field scales and good distance scales. Reid Reviews is a great place to research all those brands on Leica bodies. hope that helps.
cem h  Thank you. So if you wish some automaticity you set the aperture, with due consideration of depth of field, and the camera sets the shutter.
