Camera stabilization.

By

I bought the tabletop tripod along with the Leica ball head 18 to use as a chest tripod to stabilize my 70-200 mm lens. It works beautifully with a Nikon 5100 as the screw mount is not in the center of the base of the camera but somewhat forward. A bit more difficult with my d7100 and it's dead center screw mount. This problem is solved by using the colar mount on the lens.

Tripod + Really Right Stuff BH-25

By

from Maryland  -  Hobbyist/Enthusiast

I usually do not write reviews. The only reason I'm doing it now is because I'm so happy it worked out and also because this setup is not obvious. I bought this tripod after I returned a Chineese Giottos that just could not support the weight of D200. I used it with D200 and heavy F2.8 70-200 AFS VR and F2.8 AFS 28-70 Nikkors. Absolutely perfect for my intended use on coffee tables during a travel. I could not believe that it would work out so well with the heavy load till I tried. I also bought a Really Right Stuff ball head BH-25 that makes the entire setup very stable. I would not recommend using the tripod without the ball head though. Tripod + ballhead wheight close to nothing and will fit in any camera bag pocket. I was looking for something light, small and stable. Amazingly I found it. Bravo Leica + RRS!!!

Questions about this item:

Shopper  What weight is this tripod rated for by the maker?
CLARK S  This tripod is very well built. I don't know the exact weight limits specs on this however, it works fine for: 1) Small camera (i.e. Canon G series etc) unattended. 2) 1.6 format cameras unattended provided the lens is of reasonable length (i.e. not too long so the tripod isn't balanced). It is too small for heavy full frame cameras, though I have put a 5D Mark II on it, braced it with my hand - and I was able to take some stunning night images in Paris. You will need to buy a ball-head for this to make it useful. Hope this helps.
