Surprisingly Long Life

I bought this laptop in July 2016, and it just died this month (October 2023) over seven years later. I never expected such a long lifespan from a computer, let alone a laptop, but it just continued to work up until the very end. It would run hot, and it would have a habit of not sleeping after year four, but otherwise it was a great companion. I used it to play games, write papers, watch videos, surf the web, all of which it handled with ease. I'm taking a star off because it cooked itself to near death in a backpack once for no reason, but it was able to be saved, and for the poor battery life when not under a heavy load. I know Lenovo isn't making this computer anymore, but I would just like to leave a review because this laptop was such a reliable piece of machinery. It's a bittersweet goodbye, but I'm glad Lenovo made such a good laptop,

Bad!

This laptop destroyed the whole pre-installed original Windows 10 hdd in less than one year from purchase of the computer! Poof! and it was totally gone and out of reach with no change to save the 1TB capacity with all the content on it!!! That was a chock!! A direct HDD killer of a laptop this is! It's a catastrophic fault by Lenovo!

Horrible doesn't last long

I bought a couple years ago, but I've barely used it. Played some games and worked fine at first, but then it started downloaded so much lenovo bloatware it barely starts and hardly works. Also the subs are and always been jacked up and ruins sound so the only way I'd play sound out of it is if I have head phones or a speaker. I think this is a Lenovo problem since it's all Lenovo programs slowing it down. I'll never buy Lenovo again

The best laptop I have ever used! over 4y old now!

I have been using my y700 for more than 4 years and I could not be more satisfied with this laptop! I have been using it for software development (with heavy weight dev environment), for editing with creative softwares (also heavy weight) (photo, animation, 3D), for gaming (full graph - and the fps is still very good - no need for running at medium level at all! e.g. WoT, Quantum break etc.) I have never had any problem with it.. I have never had to repair it or bring it to customer service.. The laptop is never warm. The only thing that could have been made better is the battery - but it is written in the specs description I did not wait 10 hours when gaming.. :) It lasts very long when using Office applications, though! And it is the best looking laptop with this performance and actually and unfortunately the only one! Even by Lenovo..

Terrible terrible computer

I bought this laptop in 2016, and have only had problems with it since. EVERYTHING is broken- touchscreen, to battery life, keypad to hard drive, takes 3 hours of black screen to turn on, but if I leave it on overnight, then it won’t turn on at all in the morning. Overpaid for a piece of junk- terrible laptop, will never be buying from lenovo again.

It's a good computer it seems

Seems like a pretty decent piece of kit so far. The drivers need updating, though, and the website has been down so I've had to just deal wit the issues related to that but otherwise it's quite fine.

Love The Idea pad Y700, But...

I've been working with this laptop for 3 months now and I really like it. But I do have quibbles (below). With the graphics coprocessor, this is a fast, very capable machine. I bought extra RAM (16GB total) and really believe Windows 10 shines with it. The screen is a matte finish, which means little glare or reflections, great for bright rooms, or outside. I love the red-light backlit keyboard; and the sound is spectacular for a laptop. Now for the quibbles: this is a big, heavy machine. The 17" screen necessitates the size, and the great sound (with Dolby!) comes from the heavy magnets in the speakers. Not terrible, just know this before purchasing. Battery life has been about 5 hours with moderate load & above normal screen brightness. The touchpad takes some getting used to (and adjustment of the settings) - it's not the best that I've used. I'd also like to see some changes to the keyboard: several Function keys ("F") have been left blank - perhaps intentionally, for user assignment - that could be put to use for frequently needed items. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Not many laptops get five stars from me...

...But this one does. There's a lot of reasons for this, from it's build quality (flawless) to it's power under the hood. My machine is the i5, 128GB SSD / 1TB HD model with Nvidia GTX960m with 4GB's of data and the 17 inch screen. This is by far, the beefiest laptop I've owned. I've owned several laptops in the past, including IBM's and Lenovo. And as usual, Lenovo hit it out of the park when it comes to build quality here. There are no squeaks, the screen doesn't wobble, the keyboard doesn't flex, it doesn't feel plastic-y. So far, I've only thrown a few games at it. Destiny runs perfectly in max, as does Warframe. Star Wars, The Old Republic runs like a champ maxed out. And the machine handles the games very well when it comes to heat, too. On my old gaming machines, they'd get so hot I'd have to use an external keyboard because the palm rests would get too hot from the GPU / CPU. Not the Lenovo Y-700, this machine remains cool, even cool enough to keep in your lap if you'd be so inclined. Overall, this machine is just a good machine for all around. It handles gaming, video and picture editing, surfing the web and watching videos. If you're looking for a budget gaming machine that feels super premium, the Lenovo Y-700 is the machine you should be looking at.

I don't know why

I bought this laptop because I wanted to use him for school, I normally spend my days working on after effects, Zbrush, you know, the heavy boys, but I thought that this pc would handle them but I was wrong, I thought it had like 4Gb graphics memory but instead is for discrete graphics, I cannot even load small textures on blender, not even minecraft can run smoothly on this pc. It was an illusion I guess. Disappointed.

Lenova Ideapad - great features

This laptop is still fairly new to me, but so far I am quite impressed. I have been busy installing and setting up apps, etc. The response speed is impressive. The display is clear and appealing. Sound quality is excellent.

Great Value!

Wanted something speedy, not too expensive. That's exactly what I got. The i7 processor, the solid state program drive with the large 1TB storage drive is the perfect combination for me. So far I like it very much.

Very fast and runs well

I just ordered the new laptop and started using it. It boots up really quickly and runs intensive programs such as Microsoft programming tools immediately.

I THINK IM LOVE

I love this computer I’ve had many new computers but all have clipped during music production DAW’s due to high cpu usage. I have stacked some of the most greedy synths into one track and all play at the same time without this amazing machine breaking a sweat. Thank you Lenovo!!

Happy Wife, happy life!

Bought this for my wife for her photography software. Her other laptop kept freezing up and could not be expanded beyond 8GB of RAM. She loves the 3840x2160 display, the speed of start up and the ease of handling big RAW files. Added bonus is the sound system, keeps her rockin!

Great but one problem.....

This laptop really is a great buy, as my primary use is school and I wanted a powerful laptop it works great! However it is marketed as a gaming laptop which could be problamatic if it is your main priority for this laptop. The GPU is lacking to play AAA modern games and you will have to run low settings. GTX 960m is pretty outdated when it comes to games.

Money down the drain

Bought this a month ago and constantly facing issues but the biggest one has to be the keyboard. Constantly keeps failing (issue driver power failure) and the only way to recover is with a hard reset. Running the latest drivers/BIOS/Windows and no help from support. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, it has been abandoned by Lenovo with faulty drivers

Had this for a few months and I regret it

Had this a few months and already have a stuck black screen on startup. Battery doesn’t last an hour.

Excellent speakers

I got this laptop about two months ago, and I've been very happy with it so far. The built-in speakers especially have really impressed me, and I often find myself listening to music without headphones, something I avoided whenever possible with my old laptop. The keyboard also has nice feel, though the trackpad is a bit rickety for my tastes. The matte screen is provides great color, but mine developed a line of damaged pixels within a month of getting the computer. It looks like it's under warranty and I plan to get it fixed as soon as I get a chance, but it was still a bit disappointing.

Liking it!

I bought the computer about 2 months ago, and so far, so good. Runs pretty quick, graphics are good, etc. No complaints so far. Would be nice if it had a cd/dvd drive in it, so that's the only downside convenience wise, but I can always get an external.

A waste of money

I have seen complains about the screen failing, the sound breaking, etc. No, I don't have those problems. The problem I have, is with the GPU. It stutters, and stutters, and stutters. Yes, I have updated drivers. My bios is updated. I have Lenovo vantage. Everything is updated. The problem is with the temperature throttles. I've researched this problem, and others have it as well. Apparently, there is no way to fix it. Oh wait, I know how to fix it! Give me a new PC or my money back! Oh, but, my warranty has expired... Great. Thanks for bringing my hopes up. Now, all I have is a laptop that can barely play any game without constant stuttering and lag issues. Should have spent my money elsewhere.
