About Lee Filters

The Lee Filter Holder system is so versatile that is can be fitted to almost any lens on any camera. This means that whether the photographer is using a 35mm, medium, large format or even extreme wide-angle lens, they will always enjoy the performance and benefits the system provides.

An adaptor ring that screws onto the front of the lens is the key to the versatility of this system. Once the appropriate sized adaptor is fitted, the rest of the system clips neatly and easily into place.

Total flexibility has been designed into the Lee Filter holder system.

The foundation kit is at the centre of the Lee Filter holder system and is primarily designed to take standard 100mm filters, although other filter sizes can be adapted to fit. The unit is supplied in component form to allow the photographer to construct a filter holder tailored to his or her individual needs.

Once constructed, the holder clips easily onto the adaptor ring and can then be rotated to position filters to the photographer's exact requirements. This also enables optimum use of graduated and special effect filters.

This kit contains all the components necessary to construct a versatile holder, capable of holding up to four filters. The photographer can then choose which combinations of filter thickness they want to use by selecting and fitting the appropriate filter guides with the screwdriver provided. Additional guides and screws can be purchased separately

Excellent Holder

The Lee clip mounting system is convenient to use! I'm using the foundation kit with Hitech 4x4 and 4x6 resin filters. At this time I do not see the need for the 0.5mm shims they sell as the holder seems to grip the filter(s) fine.

Scratching Filters

After a good deal of research, I decided to bite the bullet and queue up for the pricey and elusive Lee filter system. After a good deal of research, I decided to bite the bullet and queue up for the pricey and elusive Lee filter system. While I have been very pleased with the 12 ND and color graduated filters I've managed to pin down, I have been less than pleased with this holder. The construction and overall design are okay. The plastic material is sturdy and lightweight. The device secures easily to my lenses. It is easily expandable and optional attachments like a bellows and adapter for a circular polarizer really make this a versatile tool. That said, this holder has one major flaw - it scratches the edges of the filters severly. After only a few uses, my coral grad. looks like it's been abused -- dye completely gone about 1/4" in with a wide, white scratch the length of the clear portion.Granted this doesn't effect the visible area of a composition but it does effect the resale value. Likewise, if you are as fussy about your equipment as I am, scratches on your hard to come by $100 filters are unacceptable -- especially scratches from an [$] device designed with these very filters in mind.I tried loosening the screws that hold the plastic tensioning guides but that did not help. I also affixed linen tape along the edges of the filters but the pressure from the guides caused the tape to eventually come loose. The bottom line is if I plan on continuing to use this holder then I will need to learn to live with the scratching. I'm having a hard time coming to terms with that.I would recommend this holder only if you think the edge scratching will not irritate you.

Great for long exposure photography

This holder comes set up to hold 2 for inch filters, but it comes with parts to add a third slot. A detention holds the filters firmly so you don't have to worry about them slipping out.

LEE FOUNDATION KIT

By

very well built and looks to last a long time. I haven't used that much since my big stopper is still backordered. But comparing it to another product, this looks sturdy and will last a lifetime.

I have only had this for a short time, but so far so good. My only qualm is the price. It just seems a bit steep. Otherwise 5 stars.

Expensive but works quite fine

By

I've just started to use the neutral graduated filters and, before purchasing this filter holder, I had made a sort of "market and opinion survey". At the end, even if it's the most expensive filter holder I had in the list, I've purchased it. It's well built and gives a good feeling of robustness. It's quick to snap on the adapter and the filters slide in with the right amount of strength. Not too much to make the sliding jerky, not too loose to let the filter move It would be perfect if it weren't for the cost and the cost of the adapter ring.

This is a system, not a component.

The Lee Foundation Kit, although pricey, is probably the best way to go for serious landscape photographers. It offers the greatest level of flexibility in using multiple filters and the quality is there. As a system, it seems to represent the standard by which other "system alternatives" are measured, which probably explains its relatively high price tag.

I also have the Cokin Z-Pro system and the LEE system is far better.

Is as described

Lee has excellent quality filters. They are expensive and the system is more complicated then it should be. You need to buy the filter holder, the adaptor ring which connects the holder the lens (several may be required if your different lens have openings of different sizes ie 77mm and 58mm) and then the filters. But did I mention the quality of the filters? It is worth it the expense and hassle to get the shot. Be prepared to wait months for some filters, like the popular Big Stopper.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  I'm about to purchase the Lee Big Stopper ND Glass 10-stop 100mm x 100mm and the 77mm lens adapter. My question is....Is this the holder for this filter? If not, what do you recommend?
JOEL W  Yes, the Lee Foundation Holder will hold 1, 2, or 3 4-inch filters, depending on how many side brackets are installed, Being a 4-inch filter, the Lee Big Stopper fits fine, albeit snugly, due the filter's use of foam around the edges to eliminate light leakage.
Shopper  what is the product number of the adapter ring i would need for a 77mm lens?? thanks
KEN J  Go to the Adorama site and under search type in Lee filter adapter ring 77mm
Cary K  How many filters can this holder hold ?
HERVE H  Cary the filter holder holds 2 filters. It comes with an extra set of rails to hold 3 filters. Comes with the screwdriver too. I have the hard edge and the soft edge ND grad filters. The soft ones are more useful for my taste. The big stopper is great too to get movement in clouds or water. you can get more info on the lee website. sorry Adorama wont let me post a link. good luck H
