I usually don't write reviews, but when I saw two reviews and both so negative for something I consider a brilliant idea and essential, I had to chime in! I bought one from Adorama 5 years ago, BUT this is not the first one I have bought! I have been using FastCaps or similarly designed caps on every camera lens I've owned since my film camera days in the early 1980s. 1) they are always on the camera, just flip them closed 2) they keep out dust - I rarely have to clean my lenses! 3) serious protection for your lens, as they are made of a rubbery material, you will have to hit your lens hard enough to cause internal problems before they are damaged 4) they are totally waterproof if you get caught in a shower you wont have to clean the rain off your lens! 5) this is the standard size - there used to be an oversize one available, which I needed as my lens is wide enough so the standard sized caused vignetting at wide angle 6) I would not merely recommend this to a friend, I would highly recommend this to any friend or acquaintance who could use it (and I often have!)

This device is bigger than it needs to be. They could have made it a bit more compact. You have to squeeze the ring shut in several places or it could pop open when you least expect it

Didn't like how the cap stuck out. I wanted more of a cap that hung down and didn't get in my way

Photographers agree that the Fast Cap is truly a winner. It is not only loss-proof, but it's dust-proof as well thanks to the integral semi-"O" ring seal. Once attached to a lens or filter, the base stays in place when the hinged, spring-loaded lid is flipped open by a flick of the thumb. The cover can be adjusted for the most convenient position of the opening tab. The Fast Cap is available in a universal design to fit most normal/telephoto and wide angle lenses. It is simply the best protection available.
