I wanted this for use primarily as a weather shield. It was manufactured, so someone obviously thought it worthwhile. I took a chance. Indeed, while not what I call a marvel of engineering, it does what I expected. What more do you want from a rubber lens hood?

DO NOT PURCHASE - this is cheaply made, the glue was all over the rubber and broke, causing the rubber to be free from the plastic mount. It looks cheap, is inconsistent in color (shouldn't rubber be black?)

Works great with my 500mm lens. Enables me to remove and exchange filters without having to take it off. I love it.

Unlike the shade that came with the lens (Sigma 50-150 f/2.8)the lens can go into the bag with the shade on. Not having to take the shade off and put it back on lets me work faster. It also takes up less space in the bag than the original shade. Yet it works just as well.

A very solid, useful lens shade for normal to tele lenses.

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Rubber Lens Hood are made out of a high quality matte black rubber. It folds down and protects against contrast - reducing, uncontrolled, stray light.
