I use this for my 77 mm filters. I don't have many filters, but I use step up adaptors and this lens hood for all my special effects lenses.

Wanted this for my 77mm filters. I use step up rings for all my lenses for special effects, so instead of buying all size filters I use on 77mm filters, when I use my filters. This was a perfect lens hood for them. I saw reviews that it was weak and tore apart easily. I did not find it so. Even if the hood separated from the ring, I simple enough to glue back on. But it has not happened yet.

This is an item that is so common that it does not matter where you buy it. I bought it in Adorama because I was buying other stuff they had and saw it.

I've purchased rubber lens hoods in the past for smaller lenses, such as the Nikkor 24mm AF-D, and have really found them to be useful and well made. This product, however, is just too flimsy. It feels cheap, the rubber hood came off the ring after light use, and I can't see the hood size being useful for any pro level lens with 77mm threads. Part of the problem may lie in the larger size of this hood. Perhaps a smaller (52mm) lens hood would feel and hold better.

Took a few tries to get it installed (my wife finally took care of it for me) But seems like a quality piece.

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Rubber Lens Hood are made out of a high quality matte black rubber. It folds down and protects against contrast - reducing, uncontrolled, stray light.
