Questions & Answers

Mike H : Does this hood have the matte-finish black 'flock-type' material inside the hood to minimize reflections, as the Canon hood has?KENNETH B : Yes, it does have the black "flock" type finish on the inside of the lens hood. KATHLEEN B : Yes, it does!DONALD R : The hood I have is a Canon EW-88. It has the material inside. I don't remember but I think it came with the lens.DAVID W : No. The inside of the hood is just bare black plastic like the outside. I've not had any issues with flare or reflections, though, and I use it a good bit in bright sun.
jose c : my cam body is a 40D and my lens is a Sigma DC 18-50mm 2.8 EX Macro with a Hoya UV 72mm filter. Will this hood fit my lens? ThanksJOSEPH W : the hood will not fit. the diameter of the 100mm macro is 58mm and the diameter of the lens you are inquiring about is according to your filter size, 72mm.DAVID W : I will preface this response by saying that I have no way of knowing for sure, however, I do not believe this hood will fit the Sigma lens. This hood is a bayonet-style mount, that is created to interface with the mount on the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. Unless the front of the lens casing/body is identical on the Sigma, I don't see how it will fit. Your best bet would be either a screw-type lens hood that threads in to the front filter of your Sigma or a dedicated hood for that particular Sigma lens.JANETTE S. G : Sorry, I really don't know if it fits or not. I checked Adorama and many of the Sigma sites and couldn't find the hood size. I only read about the Hoya 72mm filter. When in doubt, I always call the Adorama customer service guys and ask them. They are so knowledgeable and would help you.ALAN R : This is a great lens hood for the price, but it will not work on your lens. I suggest a hood that's specifically designed for your lens. If not, then at least a hood that goes on a 72mm filter and doesn't extend far, your lens is a wide angle and you need a hood that won't vignette the edges.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?ALAN R : Works fine, great value.

Top Notch stuff

A well made hood. You know how the saying goes "you get what you pay for" in this case you really do. You can buy a knock off for $ less but if you were to look at the knockoff and Canon side by side there are stark differences in quality, the canon hood is a much thicker plastic so it is more durable. The color of the plastic is even better on the Canon hood, it is black where the knockoff's tend to be an off color black (black with a kind of greenish tinge to them) cheap dye pigment. The biggest and difference is that Canon coats the inside of the hoods with a non reflective felt. You say so what but why are you considering buying a hood in the first place? To stop stray light from coming in from the side of the lens. Well with out the felt the knockoff's tend to have the light bounce off of the insides of the hood, end result crapy images. Spend the extra dollars you wont regret it.

Good, but hard to fit.

This hood is identical to the Canon product and, being very sturdy, it'll perform the same function However, it doesn't carry any dot or fitting point towards the lens, so putting it to the lens is a guessing thing. Also, it fits very tight whereas all original Canon hoods fit very nicely. Other than that, it's an OK product.

Generic hood does what it should

A must for macro photography.

One of the most important accessories for each lens you own. A lens hood provides multiple functions: it shades the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality; in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles.
