This very nice, rugged and long lens deserves a Nikon Hood, (or a built-in metal sleeve like the 135mm F2 DC but it's not designed for one). But if like me, you are trading off one expense for another when it comes to your professional/hobbyist interest in cameras, this trade-off works. I was confident in the Adorama brand name to deliver a functional, useful and value-priced alternative that does the job. Be mindful that it doesn't have a hard stop when you click it into place, so you can over-rotate the plastic bayonet grooves. But once in place it protects the front glass from being an unwitting hammer, and shields the glass from stray light. It's a permanent installation for my purposes.

Even though the picture is a NIKON hood the actual product is not. It does not fit as good as the Nikon hood it replaces. It seems very loose and will fall off easily. After I recieved the hood I immediately went online to purchase an original Nikon hood and will use this one as a back up.

What an annoying lens hood. It works but doesn't fit well. This thing falls off easily and is a nuisance. I do use it but long for a better one. Bottom line, it is too loose and needs to be tighter. Bummer. I will order the Nikon version and try that in the future. Adorama, as always, was a pleasure to purchase from.

I've been very pleased with Adorama over the years and have ordered a number of items but I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in their HB-7 replacement. First of all my 80-200 came with the original HB-7 and locked and fit as it should. I dropped the lens a while back and cracked the HB-7 and decided to buy an new one. Actually I thought I was getting an original but after ordering then reading the reviews I was concerned. But I though I'd try it anyway since I've always been pleased with Adorama's products. Bottom line, no better fit than my cracked one I own. Does not lock and turns very easily. So I'm pretty sure with some sideline work I'd end up losing it before the night was over. Rather than take the time to send it back I'm attaching two pieces of Gorilla tape to it insure it stays on. I don't mind buying knock off products as long as they perform as they should and this item is no where near original specs. of Nikon's HB-7. I would recommend looking for an original Nikon product on this one. Don

Purchased along with a new 80-200 lens. Why Nikon does not provide a hood is beyond me, but they don't. Great alternative to the overpriced Nikon hood. Fit the lens perfectly, highly recommended. I store this in the case inverted over the small end of the lens.

I wanted to write this review because of the other negative review and I know they made me a little concerned. Receive it today and the fit is great. I have no idea why the others had a problem with it.

This 3rd-party hood fits poorly. Unlike others I've used, this one needs a disconcerting amount of force to attach and doesn't actually click into place. The inner edge of the hood that attaches to the bayonet mount is also coarse and I don't want to risk scratching the finish with this cheap part. I'm returning mine for the HB-7, I should've gone with the Nikon hood to begin with.

This lens hood is a well made substitute for Nikon's overpriced HB-7. No doubt the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 ED D-AF should have come from the factory with a hood, it would have cost Nikon pennies. To make photographers purchase an overpriced hood for the lens is just salt in the wound. This hood is virtually indistinguishable. It does say "for Nikon" on it, as does most aftermarket parts. No big deal. It works just as well.

One of the most important accessories for each lens you own. A lens hood provides multiple functions: it shades the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality; in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles.
