I use outside in sunlight to help prevent unwanted reflections from the sun. You need to becareful attaching the hood so as not to cross thread. The hood does interfere with the viewfinder however this is not a great problem as the G15 has a large, bright screen. The hood does require a filter adapter for the G15 to which the lens hood attaches.

After returning an original Olympus hood and an off brand copycat for my Olympus 12-50mm/3.5-6.3 because they both mounted crooked on the lens, I purchased this hood. It is deeper than the original for better flare protection and doesn't vignett at the 12mm focal length. Made of metal, very nice.

Nice lens hood for any kit lens - one caveat, though, you have to take it off to use on-camera flash. I use it (with a 52-58mm adapter - I've standardized on 58mm for my polarizing filter...) on a Nikon 18-55mm Non-VR kit lens.

I use this product on a Canon G9 in conjunction with a lensmate adapter (needed). The size of the lens shade makes holding the small camera easy and protects the lens zoom mechanism from bumps and interference

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Metal Lens Hood are made of black anodized aluminum. It is suitable for Wide Angle Lenses.
