Just adding this onto the filter (UV) that should be on every lens limits it to at best about a 20mm lens. You will loose a little in the corners with wider lenses.

I was under the impression, from the literature, that this had deeper sides. It is very shallow and not functional.

I immediately purchased a Canon Hard Lens Cover in its place

This was purely an experimental purchase as a compliment to a 50mm f/1.4 lens thinking a little shade from an inconspicuous hood would help reduce stray light and enhance colors and saturations. ONLY use this hood for 35mm or wider. Extends a mere 20mm from face of lens, but is almost wider than my entire DSLR. Performs as advertised, but not what I needed.

Reasonably priced, easy to bring and use.

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Wide Angle Rubber Lens Hoods are made from high - quality black rubber for lenses with an angle of view wider than 70 degrees. Due to its shape and size, it prevents vigetting and should only be used without a filter.
