Q&A

Questions & Answers

JOHN C : Where is it made?JEFFREY B : Finally spent some time digging for a "label". Appears the backpack is made in China. Worked well for me anyway - been using it for about 3 years.JUAN T : Don't know for sure. But Lowepro is an American company founded in Colorado. I would expect it is made in the US.BYRON M : Made off shore of course. Good bags though. I have two of them for medium format gear.ROBERT S : china
Shopper : Will it carry a laptop and camera?STEVE D : Holds a camera, 3-4 lenses other accessories. The pouch in front should hold a tablet or i-pad, but is too small for larger laptops. Pouch is mainly for accessories and other small items. Does not have a pc slot in the pack.FRANK C : This backpack is well suited for camera gear but does not have a compartment for a laptop. You may be able to get a smaller tablet in the outside compartment, but be advised that this compartment is not padded nor as secure as the camera gear compartment.BOB R : There is a pocket on the back for a very small laptop or a tablet. The main storage area could be set up for a small laptop and a camera but there wouldn't be much room for lenses etc. and it might not be convenient getting the laptop out. For what it's worth I'm pretty happy with the pack. I put a small SLR, several lenses, a focusing rack, a flash, and miscellaneous gear in the main area, as well as some other stuff in the other pockets and compartments.DAVID D : The way it is set up it will not carry a laptop and a camera. I would not even try to use it for a laptop by itself. Although its a great bag for a camera and lenses , I love it.JEFFREY B : I have mine pretty well loaded with camera equipment, but can still get a small net book ( 10 x 7 x 1 ) in the main compartment. If you didn't have a real tall camera, a smaller 15" laptop would ride on top of your gear. But that means the computer is what is riding on your back. I have a Nikon D700 and the flash mount is above the dividers a little. It looks like you could get a 15" laptop in the outside of the pack, but there is no padding. It would work for carrying the laptop, but i don't know if I would throw it in an overhead compartment on a plane. The other thing is all your gear would be resting on it when you went to get camera gear out of the other side. Hope that helpsHERBERT K : It will comfortably carry an iPAD and a camera plus lenses but I don't think a laptop would fit.MOLLY M : I don't think so. The pack is very dense with lots of spaces for acessries and that doesn't leave much extra space.BYRON M : I have my flipside loaded with a bronica 6x7 GS1 system and there is no room for a laptop. It might work with a laptop and minimal camera kit - digital with a small extra lens or two.KAYLENE F : This is a great bag and I really like the safety of the zip opening at the back of the bag. Having said that, no, it will not carry a full size laptop as well as the camera. It will, however, carry a tablet such as a Nook or iPad in the front zip pocket. I hope this helps.EDMOND H : Possibly, but not in a way that would have the laptop very protected from camera gear smashing into it.YI W : Yes. But it should be a thin laptop. You can fill it either on top of your photogear or the back bag.NOAH L : I had my 13" MacBook in there no problem. Laptop, 3 lenses, flash, and accessories. Fits under a plane seat too.SUNDEEP G : You may be able to carry a 10" tablet, not a 15" or 13" ones in Flipside 400. I have a fastpack 350 for carrying a laptop and camera. Following are the possibilities: Lowepro Flipside 400: 1 tripod 2 camera bodies with 2 medium lens attached (Eg:Canon 16-35, 24-105) OR 1 camera body with 1 telephoto lens (Eg: Canon 70-200) 1 flash 2 medium/small lens without pouch. Fastpack 350: 1 Laptop upto 15" 1 Camera body with 1 telephoto lens + 2 medium lens OR 3 medium lens 1 flash. While making this purchase consider how much weight you would like to carry all the time. I usually carry all my gear to the location in two bags but on my shoulder I have things that are only needed for sure. Hope that helpsJULIE B : This bag is not made to carry a laptop.
Shopper : Does meet airline rules as a personal item that fits under the seat?KIM C : Yes quite comfortably. It does especially well on the Regional Jets. NOAH L : I have used this on many airline trips and it's a tight fit wiyh a laptop squeezed in too, but works greatJAMES I : Yes this bag meets airline rules as a carry on. My wife and I have flown to Alaska and to Arizona the last to years and I slid it under the seat on both trips.FRANK C : I have not yet brought the 400 AW on a flight, but normally any item whose total measurements (height+width+depth) total 45 inches or less qualifies as small enough to be a carry on. Lowepro's specs meet this qualification and Lowepro stated as such when I bought it. That being said, you should check with your airline beforehand to be sure as airlines may change these specs.NICHOLAS D : I've flown with this pack fully loaded on three different airlines and I've always been permitted to carry it on board and place it under the seat in front of me. I've never had any trouble getting it to fit under an airline seat. Just slide it under and tuck the straps underneath.JOSEPH C : Yes it'll fit under the seat without any problems. YI W : I carried it twice on flight and it seemed OK.MOLLY M : I do not know the exact airline rules (and they likely vary among carriers), but I think this backpack would be hard to fit under a seat on an airplane. Because the bag has lots of great padding, it does not collapse. It fits easily in the overhead compartment.ROBERT S : Yes it did fir=t under the seat. But there can be nothing else.ERIC W : Yes, I have travelled with this backpack several times. I have always carried it on the plane with me, along with a small piece of luggage. JUAN T : I have traveled with it and put it under the seat. I guess it will depend on the particular airline and plane.

Great design!

This bag is designed well and will hold plenty of equipment. I have grown to really appreciate the way you can slide the bag around and change equipment without having to take the bag off. I highly recommend it.

Excellent product

I recently purchased the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW Backpack from Adorama. As with every purchase from Adorama the transaction was as excellent and the product is as expected. I am very pleased with the Flipside 400 for my needs. It accommodates my two 7D bodies and multiple lenses. It is comfortable.

Just Missed

Bought this to carry a Sigma 150-600mm Sport w/ Canon 5D, plus other lenses & gear. Like the rear access a lot, but the use of space in such a large pack was disappointing. With the lens in the middle, all of the padded compartments on the sides of it are too small for other lenses, unless they're small lenses. And, a lot of the space is in the DEPTH of the pack - so you have to stack gear, making it hard to access. The pack should be a bit WIDER and not as deep. Finally, the rain cover only works if the pack is sitting on the ground, not on your back. For the price, I returned it.

Good design but can be even better

Good backpack and can transport a lot of material. My main concern is that to really take a good use of the flip possibility a strap should have been added to support the external part (upper part) of the backpack to secure contain of the back pack while loading or uploading it with the strap passing around neck (when in flipped position). I am going to modify mine accordingly with a spare camera strap (like those from OPTECH USA) attached to the top handle.

I don't like the design

It looked like a great deal. In fact this bag looked like the bag I had been hunting for. I have been looking for a bag I could lay down and keep the part of the bag that was riding on my back clean. I hate to lay my bag on the snow or ground. Only to pick it up an press the dirty or wet side to my back. This bag would not unzip fully. I would continually fight with the open flap because it would not open enough to lay flat or even stay open long enough to get gear in or out. I mistakenly returned it because shipping was more than I paid for the bag. Lesson learned.

Efficient for its Size

This Flipside is very well designed and has an excellent capacity for its size. I bought it even though I have other Flipside models which are smaller as I am going to use it as carry-on luggage for a European trip. Its a bit large for a day pack but I needed something that would hold my entire kit without checking any bags. It can hold 2 full size camera bodies plus one pro body and 3 medium size lenses along with a small flash, batteries and other small items. The Flipside design is especially well suited to travel as it cannot be opened from behind you and the shoulder straps and belt make it very comfortable for carrying. I always use one of my Flipsides for foreign travel for comfort and security.

A good practical backpack bag

I have had this bag on many trips, Ecuador, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, England, France, and all over the US. I carry three lenses and a 5D body, plus accessories. It works, it is convenient and it fits in overhead bins without issue. No bag is perfect, but this one does the job for me. It is reliable and I have looked at others. Why change when you have a good one.

Best Christmas gift for my husband!

I purchased this bag for my husband and he loves it! He has been playing with it since Christmas morning lol... he's so excited to use it he keeps saying when the weather changes we can go on more outdoor shoots now, because the bag makes easier for him carry his equipment. It's durable, and light weight the loves that he can configure the inside compartments the way he wants. And let say that the connnected all weather cover was so exciting to him. Told me that now he doesn't have to worry about looking for a cover because it's connected. Thanks adorama I've gotten a birthday, anniversary, and Valentine's Day gift request already. Guess you now a customer for life! Oh and your shipping is awesome!

Easy, lightweight and affordable

Yes. Easily accessible for equipment and lightweight. I was sold there. Not to mention it's reasonably priced. My wife enjoys the bag, needed something easier to carry all her equipment for different shoots.

bag is priced right and works well

I like this bag. I bought it because it is a 450 size yet less expensive that the standard back opening bag. This is a flip bag so it opens on the back, which enables it to be more secure when you are wearing it. I have a nikon 750, 70-200, 24-120, 50mm, nikon 5200 and an 18-55 dx lens as well as spare batteries for both in this bag at one time. It all fits in the partition sections. It also has a tie on for a tripod. Buy it, you can't beat it for the price.

Flipping Great

I am going on a walking tour in Europe this summer and wanted a lightweight camera bag. After reading some of the reviews, I decided on the Flipside. I had wanted the smaller 300 bag but opted for the 400 because it was all weather and included the cover. I am only 5'2" and wanted something smaller, but it's an awesome size. It's bulky due to the amount of padding to protect the camera, but it's amazingly lightweight. I'm hiking with it to get used to it, but honestly, it's lightweight enough that it's more about getting use to the size than the weight. I love it. If you are looking for a lightweight bag that you can carry some snacks and water. This is a great option. Plus, because it's a Flipsdie, it will be impossible for anyone to try to steal my camera while I'm walking. The zipper is against my back and underneath a flap, so when I'm wearing it, I don't even feel the zipper. If you are thinking about a backpack camera bag, this really is an awesome option. There's plenty of padding with velcro, so you can organize the inside however it suits your needs. Adorama delivers quickly and for free. They are an awesome company to deal with. I highly recommend both the bag and Adorama.

Great bag and a great replacement for my old Tamrac

I read that the 400 version of this bag doesn't fit well for taller folks so I opted to grab the 500AW and sure enough, it's HUGE. Massive. It sits 6" taller than my last bag and can hold MORE than enough of what I need. In the main storage compartment I'm able to hold two full frame Nikon bodies, one with a 70-200vr and one with a 24-35 f/2 Sigma lens, three SB600s stacked on top of each other, triggers, remotes, race harness, business cards, memory cards, passport, two extra lenses AND MORE. I'm not even utilizing all of the space in this bag. It's GINORMOUS. I'm 6' and a healthy sized guy and this bag is comfortable to wear. The flip feature is OK but I baby my gear too much and just remove it from my back when I need to grab something. (I run around weddings with a race harness anyways...) So if you're looking for a solid bag with nifty features and you understand the flip aspect of it all, go for it. Grab it!

I am happy that I can fit 2 bodies and 4 lenses and still have room left

I was hesitant to buy this after a couple of reviews talked about it not being for tall people. I am 6'4" and it fits fine. I am happy that I can fit 2 bodies and 4 lenses and still have room left. My only fault is that I would like to see more smaller pockets and places to put odds and ends. Maybe I just carry to much!

Flipside 400 is a good product

I am planning on using this for a trip to Utah. Since there are many hiking trails this seemed to fit my needs. It is very flexible and can handle large lenses. So much in fact that the weight full loaded will shock you. The backpack can handle it if you can. I will be packing a 7d with an everyday zoom, wide angle, 70-300, flash and accessories. This leaves me with room for personnel items as well. I was thinking of taking a 50-500, but realized the weight was too much when I tried it on. Excellent product.

Roomy but bulky straps get in the way.

The bag is great, very spacious inside and comfortable to wear, but the bulky hip/lumbar straps can get in the way when trying to remove gear or accessing the main compartment. I wish they were removable. Aside from that one nit pick, it's a great bag.

Great grab and go bag

First this bag holds 2 bodies and 4 lenses including 2.8 70-200 and a flash with room for filters, release and other things like cards and batteries. I can keep this packed and it's ready to sling over my shoulder and toss in the truck. I found I could loop the waist strap around the front and cinch it down so it's not flapping around. I don't flip it around as it would be in the way but I like the strap to make it easy to carry on a hike. Plenty of rings and places to hook things like extra water bottles, gloves or a rain coat. There is not enough room for 2 bodies, 3 or 4 lenses and a 150-600 but I don't usually need a long lens for carry around and besides, it's best kept in a dedicated bag anyway. Plenty of protection and I like the way it's custom configurable. It's portable enough to be with me 24/7. Great bag and great price.

Great bag for hard work!

I needed a bag that could carry all I need for the average job in the field. Not too big, and not too small: just one that would carry everything I usually bring along. This Lowe backpack is just what I wannted.

Needs longer straps

It has plenty of room for my 2 cameras Canon t2i with 18-270 zoom and Sony A6000 with Sony 18-200 zoom and gear. I am about five feet six (5'6") and hat the shoulder straps were extended to the max before it was come forts le which put the chest strap at my neck. My waste is a 38 and again the straps were near the end. Could not use this in the winter wearing a winter coat. Sent it back

All my gear protected in one place

Just spent a week of traveling and hiking with this bag, and couldn't be happier with it. Had room for all my lenses, with padded dividers protecting everything. Zippers and pockets galore. All my gear survived the trip, and the pack kept it all organized. The ability to attach my tripod on the back was the deal-maker feature for me, and it worked well.
