Great bag for the price
I purchased this bag so I would not have to carry a camera bag and a laptop bag when I travel. And since that is the only time I am planning to use it, I needed something that was not expensive. The LowePro Fastpack 250 serves my needs. I am able to fit a Nikon D2x with a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 lens attached (although it is a little snug), a Nikon SB900, Nikon 18-70 f/3.5-4.5 lens, Sekonic flash/light meter, and still have room for an additional lens. The only problem I have is that you cannot rearrange the padded dividers. You can remove them, but not set up a different arrangement. The top compartment will easily hold an Ipod, cellphone, GPS, stereo headphones, snacks, chargers, a windbreaker type jacket, and a small book. The laptop compartment will hold a 15" Mac Book Pro (and I am sure that a 17" Mac Book Pro would fit) and a magazine without any problem. The other two compartments will hold cables, a media card reader, owner's manual, additional batteries, etc. So far I am satisfied with my purchase, and if I had been able to rearrange the padded dividers, I would have given this bag 5 stars.

I've been looking for a larger backpack and one that would fit my laptop to make it easier when traveling. I chose this bag after much consideration. There are several things I really don't like about it: 1. There is a waist strap that I failed to notice. While this could be great for some, as far as I'm concerned fastening this strap around my waist is the equivalent of wearing a fanny pack. Probably going to cut that off even though doing that to a bag feels wrong. 2. The compartments are n...View full Review

While this could be great for some, as far as I'm concerned fastening this strap around my waist is the equivalent of wearing a fanny pack. Probably going to cut that off even though doing that to a bag feels wrong. 2. The compartments are not really adjustable. You can remove them, but since the velcro is located in a single spot you cannot move them forward or backward to better fit your gear. I have a Canon 50D which is on the small side for the camera compartment but there is no way to adjust the bag to fit the camera better. And that brings me to the last problem: 3. The FastPack is meant for fast access to your camera, I get that. It does provide that. But when you open the camera compartment completely there is nothing keeping the camera in place which seems to me would make it very easy for it to fall out of the bag. I'm going to have to figure something out to keep it in place during times I'm not shooting. Still considering returning it.

I like that this camera/backpack doesn't look like a camera bag. Its also easy to carry. Lots of pockets and storage. Plenty of room for equipment and enough space for travel sundries. The side pocket is great for a laptop or Ipad and magazines. Getting in to the camera bag section is a little cumbersome, you have to unclip the fold-over pocket and then unzip the flap that closes over the camera bag section. All in all its a serviceable bag. This is the second one I've owned. I wore out the first one.
Big and solid , perfect for travel ...
Holds camera and computer and a few essentials, fits on planes and protects contents well
I use this case for carrying a Nikon D7100 with the standard 18-105 zoom lens, a 70-300 zoom lens, a 35mm fixed lens, and a flash. I still have room in the top compartment for a raft of accessories (batteries, cards, remote, etc..) as well as a laptop in the laptop pocket. I especially like this when traveling by plane as it complies to the size regs for a carry on bag. Fully loaded it is a little on the heavy side but is still very comfortable to carry when used as a backpack. Obviously I am quite pleased with the bag and would recommend it if you pack a lot of gear when you travel.
I spent months looking for a good second personal item carry on for travel to augment my larger carry on as I always need extra space to handle all my gear. I needed it to have camera gear space, laptop sleeve and also storage for headphones, a sweater, etc. And it had to be small enough to meet the 36" personal item airline requirements. This was the one that most fit my needs. I really wish it had more interior pockets. It's almost too basic.
Love this bag for travel and coverage of local events. I was looking for a daypack that would be able to double as a camera bag that I could carry my laptop also. The bag was larger than I expected. I'm sure it is necessaary in order to fit a laptop. This pack is well padded and has a lot of well thought out compartaments. I have to resist the urge to carry extra things because the bag is so spacious. I apprciate the outter pocket on the strap but wish it was big enough to carry the Iphone. Bag stands up nicely on a flat surface. Makes it real easy to get into the compartments and pockets. I love the handgrip strap on top of the bag. Wish there was a better way to store the shoulder straps better. I wish there was an option for a brown or tan color. Black can be (in)conspicuous depending on what you're wearing. I wish the middle section was removeable so that I could get one section instead of two. This would realy make it a great bag for my use. Other than the color...I can work around the things I don't like about this bag. I still rate this bag high. For me it's all about value. This bag delivers more than I paid for.
I have done several short hikes with this pack. I do not carry a computer on a hike - so the computer chamber will have to wait for a vacation trip to be tested. The camera and lens chamber holds my D7000 with a 70-300 mm lens attached plus 4 other lenses. The fit is tight - but I guess that is the point - create a secure area to protect the lenses. The top section easily holds lunch and snacks with plenty of room to spare. The other chambers easily hold filters, a compass and other camera accessories, even a small poncho. One con is that there is no dedicated tripod holder - but bungee cords can attach a tripod in a do-around. I am a tall guy and the pack fits comfortably - the straps are well padded and have attachment points for other pouches which might come in handy in the future. It is easy to access the camera equipment - not as easy as when I use a fanny pack - but doable. I don't think there is a perfect camera bag for every situation - but for a moderate hike to photograph waterfalls in the mountains - this Fastpack 250 seems to be about as good as it gets. The pack is not ultra light - but I am happy so far with the protection I feel the bag affords my gear.
Works like a charm, pockets are perfectly tailored for a camera and a laptop with plenty of room for assorted supplies and neat little pockets for smaller items. It gets the job done, perfect utility without any excess, if I were to design a bag it would be this.
Great to travel on airplane Great to bring camera and gear to beach
I have looked around for a while and found that this is easily the most affordable, functional bag on the market. Don't go out and spend $250 for a dual purpose laptop/camera bag, this one has all the bells and whistles with plenty of room for a far more affordable price. I love the bag!
