Questions & Answers

Collin W : What would I need to get to attach an iphone to this ?CATHY S : An iPhone tripod mount that has X/Y axis mobility should nothing like a ball mount.FRANZENE G : Hi, Any iPhone tripod mount adapter with an standard screw 1/4 interface, connecting to any tripods, monopod. Basically, if you search for any iPhone tripod adapter is compatible to the screw on this boom arm.
Suzanne R : What attachment would I need to be able to attach my canon digital camera to the boom arm?RON K : I assume you want to shoot pictures at a high, or overhead position. I also have to assume a ladder wouldn't work, or be practical for your concept. So, I would start with a Manfrotto 035 Super Clamp. Then attach a regular tripod head to it - appropriately sized to carry the weight of your camera assembly, Tighten the hell out of the clamp around the end of the boom to prevent movement of whatever position is needed for the shot, and add the proper weight to adequately counter balance the whole assembly. Hope that helps. Ron Kupferberg, ARKAY Studios, GAPRIYARANJAN D : The same you would need to attach your camera to a tripod.
RONDA L : Is this sturdy enough to support the 320m flashpoint monolight and a beauty dish?Dave S : I've never seen, or lifted, the 320m flashpoint monolight, but I'll bet it will support the accessories you want to use.. This boom arm is sturdy enough to be used for serious studio use. I regard it as a great buy at this price.FRANK S : I hang a Norman ml400 with light modifier on it & its fine. 6+lbs. it has a weight for the boom arm & I hang a few weight bags on the base.BRAD D : For sure. Just make sure you use the counter weight.

Heavy but very bad quality

The butterfly knobs are broken and unable to hold the poles when extended. This is my 2nd boom stand from Flashpoint, The one I bought 6 years ago is still good, but, the new one broke with in 2 uses.

Impossible to tighten the boom arm!

This stand is sturdy enough and well built but I have two big issues with it that almost rendered it useless for my purpose. 1. I wanted this to double as a microphone boom and for that purpose I bought a special connector and that went well. Unfortunately, the boom arm itself is impossible to tighten and keeps running loose no matter how hard you tighten the knob nut. Needless to say after a few tries the knob broke. I had to stop by lowe's to buy a hex 1/4 inch cap screw and a matching 1/4 wing knob. I also added a spacer and finally then I was able to more or less get the boom arm to not slide or rotate. I don't understand if this is a manufacturing flaw or if it's intended to be this way. Anyway, it kinda works now. 2. The weight bag is sewed right down the middle creating two pockets, making my existing weights useless for this bag. Now I gotta figure out if it's best to get another weight bag or new weights that would fit in this one. The stand would be a 4-5 star if they would figure out these 2 issues.

Great value for the money

The stand comes as advertised and easily supports a speedlight and largish modifier. More than adequate for a moderate home setup, it's clearly not robust enough for daily professional use. If you have more modest demands, it constitutes a real bargain and it's a big step up from simple 8 or 10 foot stands that will not easily permit the placement of even small umbrellas or softboxes and downward angles.

Great bang (or boom) for you bucks.

I got this light stand with arm boom recently and it was a great surprise. Sturdy, well built, easy to put together and carry around. I wish it had casters but it works like a charm.

Gret for the $$$$$$

There are definitely better, studier boom arms out there but you won't get one for this cost. Unless you spent $ on a strobe and softbox, you can certainly feel safe mounting to this arm. I put sandbags at the base of all my stands & with the counter weight attached I don't think this is going anywhere. I use ankle weights that they use for working out instead of pricey sandbags. These ankle weights have several smaller, removable sandbags in them so it is easy to remove a few from one and put them in the counter weight that comes with the stand. They fit perfectly. I will probably be needing another boom in the future and will be getting another one of these.

Let me save you some headaches!

I'm not sure where the positive reviews came from, but let me save you some headache. While the price is certainly attractive, this is a clear case of "you get what you pay for". Save your money and look for something better. I needed a boom for a specific shot, so I took a chance with this stand. The most annoying issue is that the clamp that tightens on the boom arm never really tightens. It slides freely up and down, even when you crank down on the butterfly screw. As others have mentioned, the weight bag has a stitch that divides it in half for some reason, so the weights that I already have couldn't be used, as they don't fit. Even properly weighted, the stand wouldn't hold my Alienbee strobe with barn door modifier without being tipsy. I will make it work for the shoot and then I'll probably never use it again..

Not bad for the price

I ordered this Jan 6th 2015, I was finally able to use it Feb 5th. The reason it took so long to be able to use, was it came with a stripped turn knob. I e-mail them and they were able to send me a new one. I just with there was a way to keep the pole from turning. When you have a flash and umbrella or softbox, it wants to point straight down. Also when I have some free time I need to take the carrying case to a seamstress, as the stitching is letting go after being opened twice.

Worst product Ever purchased from Adoram

I just unpacked my stand and pieces are coming off. I read the reviews first, are you kidding me. This is horrible! Cheesy plastic, I can't believe I trashed my other one before getting this...my mistake. Oh, it's going back!!!!!!

Good product

The stand is very sturdy, I like how the bottom bracket is adjustable for extra balance. Very pleased with the quality and price ratio. I'm using it with Westcott's Orb and Nikon SB-910. The counter weight bag could be more useful if it doesn't have divider in the middle. I can't put sands in plastic bags in those partitions. If it didn't have the divider, I can put sands in a ziplock bag and insert it. Probably it was designed for lead bricks instead. I ended up using something else with a bungee cord to counter balance.

Great value

The description lacks important point: the boom can be used as a part of the stand for extra height or as, well, boom. In the latter case the stand is not that tall. Enough for an overhead light for a full body portrait. Decent built quality.

Very Impressed!

Amazed at the value for the money with this product. Sure, it's not "pro-grade" but for my hobby home studio this is more than solid enough. It holds my Flashpoint mono-lights with ease. Including the counter weight bag was a nice touch. I will buy another in the future.

The stand is very nice for the money. I really wish it had wheels and a better counter weight, but that one was much more expensive.

Much stronger and heaver than it looked

I was really suprised how heavy duty this stand was, it also can be used as a straight stand. The included sand bag was and added plus. I have a Mono Flash Head with a snoot on it with no worries about it falling over. I would buy one again!

Pleasantly Surprised

I needed a boom and stand for my home studio but really didn't have the money for a name-brand product. After reading the reviews I decided to give this one a shot. For the money you can't beat it. It exceeded my expectations. The only thing I wish it had was wheels but I can deal with that. Great product!

Stand works great and is sturdy

It works great for holding a hair light up behind my backdrop stand. When I received it there was a bent screw that didn't keep it from working but was a worry. Customer service handled it with no problems.

Pleasantly surprised

I ordered this stand after reading reviews here and looking at other similarly-priced alternatives. Considering the low price, I'm pleasantly surprised by how beefy this stand is, as well as the quality of the fit and finish. With a Canon 580EX II and either a softbox or a beauty dish mounted, this stand feels stable and solid as a rock. I'd feel comfortable mounting heavier strobes to it as well. Lots of bang for the buck here. I like it.

Great stand and easy to use.

This is my first boom. I bought it to hold a beauty dish with a monolight attached to it. It felt sturdy with the added weight. Worked great! I got fish tank rocks to fill the sand bag and replaced the clasp on the sandbag with one I know would not break. The clasp was week and just looked like plastic made to look like metal, so I got a steel clasp.

good buy for the money

This is a decent, solid boom stand, which seems well made. The sandbag is a little diffacult to shut) so I pre-package sand in double ziplock freezer bags before I put it in the sandbag to minimize spilling sand around the studio. Being made out of steel, rather than aluminum, this stand is heavier, but tends to be more stable when something is cantilevered out a distance from center. Not a very sophisticated design, but sturdy.

Ok for the price

Works fine for lighter flash units. Plastic parts could break with heavy use. Would not recommend for heavier strobes and large boxes. Good for the price though.

Sturdy Professional Lighting Equipment

By Perry P.

I used this equipment as a hair light mostly, although it can be used on location sessions where there is furniture prohibiting placing a regular light stand. The counter-balancing weight makes this light very stable and safe to use.

This Flashpoint Pro Boom with Light Stand and Boom is easy to assemble and would be a great addition to your studio. The boom stand is useful when positioning your lights more directly above your subject. Add a sandbag that comes in this kit for extra control. The black anodized aluminum finish gives this boom a professional look. This unit can also be used as a normal stand & will go up to about 11'.

This kit comes with a beautiful black padded carrying case with double zipper, (Normally sells for 24.95+)
