Shopper : I have this light but the fuse burn out..What type of fuse this light used? thanks
Kristen H : Can you put bulbs in this that are higher than 45 watts?JOHNNY S : yes, you can use a higher watts than 45. always turn it off when not in use to prevent over heating the bulb mounting.RONALD W : There are no ratings marked on this light but has a fuse rated 3 amps for a total of 360 watts. Allowing for a safety margin you should be able to use 60 watt or possibly 75 watt lamps. I have only used the 45 watt lamps that came with it.JOHN L : Well yes you can but you will lose efficiency and may not get the full output of the bulbs. There also may not be enough room for bulbs as large as 85 watt. The bigger bulbs stick out further and don't take full advantage of the reflector. I think you will be better served by purchasing the Adorama soft box with the 85watt lamp. It only has one light bulb and puts out the same f stop at 5 feet that this lamp does with 3 -45 watt bulbs. It's also a very pleasing light and the soft box doesn't spread light all over the set like an umbrella light does. They both have their place. I like the reflector light for some things and the softbox for others. I've spent the last 25 years shooting for a University, everything from portraits to complicated art pieces made of glass. I teach people how to photograph art works and I'm now using the adorama lights to teach with. I find for still work I can get the same photos that I get with $20K worth or studio lighting." This photo of me at my wood lathe was shot with those lights. The left light was the light you have and the fill light was the softbox.JOHN L : Well yes you can but you will lose efficiency and may not get the full output of the bulbs. If you will exceed, it won't be good on your bulb mounting. I also exceed 45 to 65 watts sometimes but I always turn off the light when not in use, to prevent over heating the mounting.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?JOHNNY S : I just use this Reflector outfit when I'm taking a family portrait, it really give more quality with my pictures and get rid of the shadows behind the object.

Great ligtht with poor support

With limited studio lighting experience, I can only comment on what I see. This product produces a nice quality and quantity of light, but the support hardware is super cheap and flimsy. The stand would not hold up to heavy or even moderate use. The light head itself seems well made and runs fairly cool which is good because the stretch over diffuser is in contact with the bulbs. The included umbrella seems OK as a diffuser, but not really big enough for reflected lighting. Altogether, a mixed bag. Probably OK for a beginner like me, but far below pro quality.

Output is limited

Found I would need another light as output was not strong enough. Trying to figure out if I can put higher wattage bulbs in it without melting it. Would be best for still life, if camera is mounted on a tripod.

• This 12" reflector has 3 sockets and comes with 3 45 watt flicker-free fluorescent, spiral bulbs. These bulbs are similar to the energy saver bulbs; they differ in that they are rated at 5500 degrees Kelvin; that is they are daylight balanced.3 45 watts each fluorescents translates into 675 watts of light output.

These long lasting cool lights emit very little heat and can stay on all day long without a problem.

The Flashpoint Kit can be used with Digital Cameras or Camcorders and is great for shooting portraits, or still life. It comes with a pull-over diffuser for softer lighting.
