There are lots of these things out there without reflectors. Can't help but think that the light from those is sharper than this which totally covers a 45w fluorescent with its reflector. Bounce into white umbrella is super soft.

I use this product primarily to illuminate a light tent for photographing my wife's highly reflective pottery. It's easy to set up. Good value and seems quite durable.

Nice lightweight and solid, with ceramic socket. I use this with a 800 watt hmi bulb and ballast, works great and inexpensive.

With one caveat, this is a good piece of gear. The stand mount is plastic, but seems rugged enough at least for casual use. I thought the reflector was deep enough, but its not. 55w and 65w EFLs stick out beyond the end of the reflector, so be aware.

I got 30 of these guys to use them for green and white screen using fluorescent lighting. These where the cheapest and the best answer to my budget since I need it so many.

Just got two of these and tried them out. They assemble easily attach to a 5/8" baby pin, or a horizontal bar (not sure what size since I didn't try that, perhaps 3/8") and they work just fine. They do have a socket for attaching an umbrella and the umbrella shaft will clear an 85 watt compact fluorescent lamp or an AC strobe. The outlet is grounded and the switch is mid-cord where it can be easily reached even if the light it up high.
