I am using these light stand adapters to hold LED bulbs with built in reflectors for additaive lighting on set. I go one step futher and take a quart paint can, remove the top lid and can opener the botton, drill holes around the can at 12, 3, 6, & 9 o'clock close to the end of the can, paint the can black and mount it through the holes just drilled to the fins of the LED bulb. It makes a wonderful snooted lamp with the LED reflector bulb. With the black paint it doesn't even look home made to most folks on set. I substract two stars because these adapters are not really made for heavy use because they have a weak point were they attach to the light stand. This is true of other Flashpoint adapters as well. It the nut is overtightened to the lightstand then the adapter will break at the weak point. I repaired one already by wrapping the adapter with solid wire and covering the wire with epoxy cement. The wire alone or the epoxy alone would not have made a successful repair but the synergy of the two made a repair that has laster over a year. I previously purchased the JTL brand or this same adapter and it is built much stronger so I recommend looking for the JTL instead of this one.

I am attaching photos of the paint can snoot described in my previous review of the lightstand adapter. This is how I use the adapter.

I use this with an E27 4 to 1 socket adapter and 150w CFLs for video. The unit is good, and the on/ off switch is really nice, but it can't take large umbrellas. A 60" umbrella has to be counterbalanced as the tilting knob doesn't create enough friction.

For the money, I didn't expect it to be metal and real heavy duty. I screwed a 4 socket adapter and 4 - 65 watt fluorescents into it with a 32" umbrella and it handled it all with no problem. A metal screw for the umbrella shaft would make it a five star.

After reading other reviews for this I opted to buy two more expensive units and one of these to evaluate. If I were short on money I would have rather bought three of these than one of the others. It works fine. The switch is built into the unit which might make it hard to reach if it is up real high and the plug is not grounded. But it works just fine with both an 85 watt compact fluorescent and an AC strobe. No assembly required and fits onto a 5/8" baby pin or a smaller (probably 3/8") rod. These do not have reflectors, but that makes them more compact.

For the price it can't be beat. I bought 2 of these to use with item 2124 4-light holder. I purchased these for video as I use strobes for pictures. Does what it was made to do. It's not the best material but for the price it's top quality. No issues with it after first test.

i bought this for use with a huge 300 watt fluorescent bulb i picked up [...]. i read a review before buying that said it was poorly made, but since i live in NYC and adorama has a great return policy, i bought it anyway. i also had picked up [...] a clamp on light socket with reflector for like 9 bucks, and it turns out the bulb was too wide at the base area and wouldn't fit in. this seemed to be just the thing for the bulb, and cheaper still, plus it's and umbrella holder! easy choice. I tried it out today and so far no complaints. the switch on the back is streamlined and definitely a plus. the bulb screwed in and out solidly and i had no looseness issues like the other reviewer. the unit itself is very light, and has the ability to mount on a stand vertically or horizontally. the cord is not grounded and doesn't seem too thick, and all the connections and seams are very solid. seems like the perfect thing for a fluorescent bulb or strobe bulb. Also the umbrella shaft was able to clear my huge fluorescent bulb's base no problem.

"Heavy Duty" is really not an accurate adjective for this unit! I bought two of these for use with AC powered slave strobes. Both of them broke the first time I screwed in the strobe unit. I did not overtighten the bulb, but as soon as I snugged it up, the metal threaded ring popped out rendering the bracket useless. Looking at how flimsy the metal ring is, it's no surprise it broke. JTL makes a similar unit (though it's more expensive) and I have one of those that works fine. I'd recommend that.

Great to compliment my studio for hair lighting.
The holder is attached with a socket, stand-adapter, umbrella screw hole with a screw for tightening, built-in on/ off power switch, and a 10' power cable with a wall plug. Can be used at the top of studio light stands with a 3/8 inch or 51 8 inch stud. Its fixing screw can keep the umbrella sitting firmly. On-off switch .
