This is a good low-cost product that gives decent performance. If you are going to use a single light, you have to "aim" them fairly well to get what you want because the output is not even. I have a four-light florescent head that has a center receptacle for the umbrella's shaft and it works much better. They work better with constant lighting than strobes because you can see where there the focal point is - lots of firing to get what you want. For the money, they're good even if they won't take much abuse.

I bought this umbrella 2 hours ago and already 2 of the pieces that hold the fabric to the umbrella arms have fallen off! This is just from opening and closing it twice! The fabric is much too thin to use as a shoot through, it creates a really bad hot-spot in the center position. Works fine with the black/sliver cover on, however, I'm not confident this would withstand more than a couple of shoots. I'd look into spending $10 or $20 more dollars for an umbrella with better fabric and better build quality. My old photoflex umbrellas from 7 years ago are in better shape than this one.

Under normal use all umbrellas will eventually show wear and tear. Because these umbrellas are so cheap in price, I expected some of VERY poor quality. This is just not so, and I am very happy with them. The fact that I can use them as a shoot through or bounce set, *and* the fact that I can use the black cover (with it's underside of bright silver material) as a reflective surface, makes this one of my favorite umbrellas to use over and over. I would not hesitate to recommend these to my best friend and feel confident that they would enjoy them for years to come!

Great umbrella for common use, as long as you keep it in its case and take care of it you will have no problem, its a great umbrella for its price.

Great buy! It is a little less contrasty than a strictly silver umbrella but not lugging around 2 umbrellas is most certainly worth it!

The black backing can be removed to create a "shoot through" umbrella to create a softbox lighting effect. Great for still life setups or single light head shoulder portraits. Use a colored filter in front of the light for some really special effects.
