Questions & Answers

Shopper : does this tube work good with nikon d5100 autofocus?LEE K : It doesn't work at all with any camera's autofucus. You are much better off using manual focus anyway at the close distances you'd be using this lens at. I love them, and mainly use them with an 80-200mm Nikon lens. Good LuckALVIN B : They worked OK on my D 90. I have no knowledge on the d 5000.ELIZABETH A : I use it with a Nikon D300, and it works very well, but I don't know if it will work with a D5100 camera.Billie C : I am using on my Nikon D200 and they work fantastic. I have used them many times since I purchased them and they are well built and are priced very well. I think that they have been a fantastic addition to my camera equipment. They are well built and strudy and I have enjoyed using them. They are easy to use with my camera.
Shopper : Do these rings fit and work well on a Nikon D80?DUC T : These did not fit my D90, I returned them for a refund.ROBERT M : Greetings: I used the set extensively over the last few weeks on a D90. I assume they work as well on the D80 but cannot be certain. With all tubes for close up work, I have had to adjust and compensate for them. With this set I usually adjusted for light changes manually on the D90 as I was changing object sizes with every series of shots and then bracketed each photo after initial adjustments. I also found that some objects I was shooting with the tubes were difficult for the auto focus to work and manual focusing was needed due to regular patterned surfaces (rocks, other relatively smooth objects, objects with no definite linear dimensions, etc.). This was not unexpected and I am entirely satisfied and happy with the set. I will purchase a second set to support work on slightly smaller objects, assuming I can add a couple more rings to the working set. BobM, Another Happy ShopperBillie C : I have a Nikon D200 and they are great. I have used them and feel that the results exceeded my expectations. They are well constructed and even though I have banged mine around some they still look brand new. Again, I think they are great and are a great buy.CHET B : Yes. I have used them on both a D80 and D90 and they work very well. Chet Burgess AtlantaLISA G : THEY SHOULD WORK FINE, BUT AUTO FOCUS MAY NOT WORK UNLESS THE CAMERA HAS MOTOR DRIVE IN THE BODY.ROBERT R : They worked well on my Nikon D3100. The only thing I can't tell you is how well focusing works. It should work, but I don't have first-hand experience with a camera that has an in-body focus motor.RONALD R : One of the rings did not work on a D50. It did not allow contact between the lens and camera body (the camera could not find the lens).Daniel M : I've had no problems at all using them on my Nikon D40x. Should be fine on A D80. They all work great. They fit perfectly, lock tight, and the autofocus works fine as long as there is enough light. They are sturdy and hold up to tough handling. They do, of course, reduce light exposure to a degree depending on the length of extension used. I like to use them with my 55-200 mm zoom. Very very shallow depth of field as with all extension tubes. I have been quite satisfied with my purchase!ALVIN B : Don't know about D80. I have a D90 and have switched to a 40mm micro.LEE K : They should work. They work fine on my D70, as well as my D300s, which is my primary camera. Remember, you will need to use manual focus while using these tubes. I mostly use the larger tube with an 80-200mm lens, and I love the photos I get.HENRIETTA C : Don't know for sure. Used rings on D90 and D7000.
Patrick C : I am using a Pentax K-5. Will these extension tubes work with the Pentax Lens system?HEATHER D : Hey Patrick, These extension tubes are for the Nikon mount, which is an F mount, so you would want something that is a K mount. I don't know if the canon ones would work. I think there are K and F mount adapters though, that would work with these. HeatherJESSE M : I wouldn't even try, if I were you.LEE K : I'm using a Nikon D300S. I really don't know if it will work on a Pentax. I do love these tubes though, and I use them pretty extensively with an 80-200mm lens on flowers and other macro subjects.RICHARD N. M : Patrick, All extension tubes work pretty much the same so long as the mounting ring is designed for your particular camera lens mount. Occasionally you will find that the mounting ring on the extension tube set will fit a bit tighter than you might expect, but it will become smoother with use. You might want to go with metal tubes, rather than the plastic ones since a heavy lens might cause the tubes to flex a bit, but the plastic ones should work fine since there is no lens element in these tubes--they simply are a hollow cylinder that serves to decrease the working distance (and subsequently increase the magnification ratio) of your particular lens. Good luck, DickHENRIETTA C : Probably not, since my set is for Nikon AF mount. But I'm not really sure, you'd need to ask the manufacturer, or someone more knowledgeable about the Pentax mount lens mount system.LARRY O : This is a great addition to your close-up arsenal. I use them for most of my macro work. They are well made and are metal so you don't have to worry about the mounts breaking.

Metering doesn't work!!!

The metering stops working the first time that the meter times out, so in short it works great for about 30 seconds then you need to reattach the lens.

Worth the Money

These tubes are not up to the quality standard of your Nikon camera, but they do the job. I use them on my D90 with a 105mm Macro AF and the big surprise is that it autofocuses 90% on the money even when overstacking the tubes. They are a little stiff to get off and on - that's the only con for shy of $90...

Ok Quality, but Excellent Value

Pros - Excellent improvement in reproduction ratio (full stack gives close to 1.5 to 1 on my 50mm F/1.8), reasonably durable feel, maintains metering and TTL capability, aperture coupling appears to work reliably, very affordable. Cons - Tight fit as others have mentioned, mounting latch is sticky, AF drive screw creates "grating" feeling when manual focusing my AF-D lens, AF-S tries to work but hunts. Overall Impression - At this price I was tempted to give them 5 stars, but I think the cons should be recognized. The tight fit and the sticky mounting latch don't really bother me, but the resistance in the AF linkage makes it feel almost like there's sand in my lens, and it's worse the more tubes you have on. This is not an issue with AF-S lenses because they have no screw coupling. I don't have a body with an AF drive motor, so I can't tell you if it affects focusing with AF lenses, but you'll probably prefer manual focus anyways. The product description says manual-focus only with AF-S. Interestingly, the AF-S coupling is there, but my D40 and Nikkor 18-70 just hunts rapidly back and forth without being able to lock focus. I might try again in better light. Other things to mention: It takes patience to set up a shot with the small working distance these tubes afford, and you lose about 1 stop worth of light with them all mounted. The "owner's manual" is a single printed sheet with basic mounting instructions and a few tips for use. The AF screw coupling is a nice thought, but I'd prefer they left it off. I'm very glad auto-exposure works properly with this set. The appearance is slightly different than pictured as of 12/11/09. I think the outer plastic cover is cheaper but now covers the meter coupling lever. Overall, I would definitely buy these again.

Awesome Extension Tube Set

Great For Close-ups. The metal tubes were a little tight at first. But are easier to use now. They have a nice snug fit which I'd rather have compared to the plastic version of Kenko tubes which some reviewers say they are a little loose. I went to a butterfly museum and took some fantastic close-ups with the medium tube and my Nikon D90 with a 55-200mm DX lens.

Extension tubes that work

Works great for macro. Lots of light. Not like the inexpensive ones where everything is dark. A good price for an excellent product.

Performs well for specialized projects

I have used these tubes with the Nikkor 105mm Macro lens to get an even greater magnification ratio. These have performed as desired and I am very satisfied with them. Since there is no "whiz-bang" I didn't give them a 5 star rating, but they do perform exactly as advertised for the jobs I have used them for. I would recommend them to someone looking for this type of tool.

Well worth the money

After reading other reviews I was surprised that the tubes fit my Nikon D200 perfectly. There were easy to get on once they were lined up properly, and fit a tightly as you could possibly expect. The tubes are a great value for the money.

Limited Auto-focus

Stiff but functional. Does NOT provide autofocus with my trusty 50mm f1.8. Only Auto-focuses with newer motor-in-lens AF, lacks the mechanical drive needed for motor-in-camera AF. Would only recommend with this caveat.

When Close is Not Close Enough

This product works as expected, though it is tough to disconnect from the lens, or other extension tubes. That being about the only con, I am hopeful that it will rectify itself with a little break-in.

Great value

Just started getting into macro photography, but have found these extension rings to be really nice. Seem quite durable and really like the fact they are stackable (both for on-camera use as well as carry in a small camera bag). The only trouble I have had with them (as another reviewer also mentioned) was they are quite stiff. I found they didn't fully lock-in to the camera body and get the exposure data (for my body, you just need to depress a switch when attaching).

More effective than I thought

Way more magnification than I thought. A little tight to get onto my 50mm Nikon but works great

Works ok, fits tight, bit rough

Metering pin ring exposed on barrel of tube moves freely. Tubes fit very tight. Has to be grasped firmly to engage. Free spinning meter pin band interferes with my grasp. Release lever is chromed stamped sheetmetal. Rough action and tricky to press very firmly to engage release but not to bend the lever. I returned the set. It works ok and if you are looking to spend the least you can for functionality, this is prob for you. If you are use to smooth action, precise machining and polished movements, keep looking.

Increased magnification in Macro

Since transitioning from film to digital (Nikon photomic FTN-d80)I was "bitten by the bug" of Macro photography. Having purchased a Sigma 105mm macro lens I wanted some way to magnify the image other than close-up filter like attachments. I had to decide on either the Kenko or the Pro Optic brand. For half the price of the Kenkos the Pro Optics performed outstandingly[...]!

Pro Optic Extension Tubes for Nikon a Gr

Great value that I could not obtain from Nikon! Quality shows through when I use these! Boxed product shows these to be for digital cams, whereas the advertisements state they are for film. Because I could see no difference, I ordered and was pleased to see "digital" shown, as that was my desired operating mode.

Extension tubes that work

Works great for macro. Lots of light. Not like the inexpensive ones where everything is dark. A good price for an excellent product.

Contains three tubes of different length (31mm, 21mm & 13mm) which can be combined in seven ways to obtain various magnification. Perfect coupling with TTL metering and AE mechanisms. Maintains full auto exposure with Nikon AF Cameras, however, Nikon D information is not transmitted because the lens is focusing closer than its program focus. Manual focus only with Nikon AFS (silent wave).
