Meade Counterweight System for SCT

It was easy to install. There were no surprises. The only drawback to this system is that only the 2 pound weight is available for supplemental purchase when you need more than 7 pounds of counterweight. Other than that, it is exactly as described.

Bad Threading

The 1 lb lock screw does not lock down the weight. Better QA should be performed to ensure threads do not have imperfections. Meade's bad Q&A

About Meade #1403

This Tube Balance Weight System permits the balancing of heavy or long-lever-arm accessories attached to the eyepiece-end of the 12" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.

Each weight assembly attaches to factory-threaded holes provided on the underside of every Meade 8", 10", 12", 14", or 16" SCT or 7" Maksutov.

Three differing weights are supplied with each unit, permitting considerable variation in the total weight available for balancing.
