Shorter front focal distance = shallower depth of field and smaller field of view. That's inescapable optics. The quality of this device is apparent when focussing up close. Depth of field is paper-thin and field of view = ~3cm, which makes this practically a low-power two-hand-held one-light-path dissecting microscope, which is crazy, but it works because the glass is superb and chassis easy to hold securely. Of course, a tripod is always a good idea, and this monocular is threaded for a tripod (as are all Minox binoculars and monoculars, as every binocular and monocular on earth should be), but the advantage of this monocular is its diminutive size and negligible weight so it has to work without a tripod. It does that in spades. When it's dangerous, inconvenient, impossible or forbidden to use a hand lens or naked eyeballs for close inspection at close quarters, this is the next best thing. Light gathering is surprisingly good for a 25mm objective lens, a function of quality glass in inherently more efficient prisms. The "case" is only a sturdy draw-string bag with a carabiner grommet. It's not much protection and only barely encloses the monocular. Without lens caps, one lens or the other is left at least partly exposed. Easy fix: some plastic film cans fit the eyepiece ring as if custom made for it. Scissor off the top 2/3 and you have a lens cover better than most OEM. You'll still lose it eventually but then you'll just make another. The objective lens is deeply recessed; it doesn't need a cover. The supplied carabiner and neck strap are also weak but easily swapped out for sturdier versions if you're going to use them. The monocular fits in a jacket pocket. In sum, this "Minoscope" isn't a great microscope, spotting scope, binocular or hand lens, but it's a great invention. It does a good job in each category, with a shape/size that encourages keeping it always handy. Its limitations are barely enough eye relief (12mm) and borderline too much magnification (8X), but in the art of balancing optical compromises, approaching useful limits without stepping over is no sin. In image quality, where the only compromise is with cost, Minox has done something remarkable: this is a brilliant bit of optical kit for a very reasonable price. There are plenty of toy monoculars on the market. This isn't one. This one is excellent.

The short and compact telescope body, designed by Volkswagen-Design, is destined to meet many other demands put on it also. MINOx have made this technically possible due to the extremely short and compact build of the MS 8x25 and the clever use of Porro prisms which by their very nature provide naturally high light transmission. The lens diameter of 25 mm combined with its innovative optical system and high quality multi layer coating of the optics, ensures bright images with high contrast and accurate colour rendition under all conditions.
Designing the Macroscope, MINOx engineers combined past know how and the latest technology as used in the new MINOx 'High Grade' range of binoculars. For example, the Quick Close Focus (QCF), a new type of focussing mechanism which allows better and more accurate focussing.
With just a single turn of less than 360° of the focussing ring on the lens it is possible to adjust the mini telescope to any setting from close-up to infinite.
Despite its lightweight, around 150 grams, the Macroscope features tough rubber armouring to protect against everyday wear and tear and along with a special sealing technique is internally purged with special Argon gas to not only minimise internal corrosion and prevent internal fogging during quick temperature or humidity changes, it also ensures that it remains waterproof in bad weather conditions and even in water down to 5 metres.
For those who wear spectacles, the full field of view is visible due to the extended exit pupil. The twist-up/twist down eyecup is an important feature for both spectacle and non-spectacle wearing users.
