Questions & Answers

Shopper : will work with my D 800 Nikon?rhett w : it works great with my d800e better than my sigma flashes & better than my lumopro 180 it also works well from a pocket wizard triggerALEXANDER L : I recently purchased a Nikon D810 and have already taken over 200 pictures with this flash; both direct and bounce flash. It works flawlessly. I have also used the flash with my D3, alone and with a two and three flash setup. I recommend the flash with no reservations. I am confident that it will work well with your D800TONY S : Yes, it works with my D800.
Shopper : Will this work as a slave flash with my Nikon sb910?TERRENCE R : Hi, The short answer is I don't know. However, I have used it as a slave to my Nikon d7000 and d7100 on camera flash, so it does work with Nikon equipment. It has very good output, and seems to be comparable to the Nikon equivalents.Dennis B : Yes. Works as commander or slave with all Nikon CLS enabled devices. Buy it.TONY S : Yes, I use them as slaves to an SB 800, so they are Nikon compatibleANNETTE B : I do not enjoy this flash it works very slow it takes 4 sec to recharge every time I take one picture on fresh battery's. The flash gets so hot that I can even touch the battery's to change them out I have to wait until it cools off.
Shopper : is this good for making night pictures not look washed out? I'm looking for a flash that improves low light photography without washing everything out.ANDREW R : Unfortunately the problem you've described is less a function of the flash model and more a function of placement and exposure. The "washed out" appearance you've described will likely happen with whichever shoe mount external flash unless steps are taken to control exposure and diffuse the light in some fashion. I'm getting better with it . . .

There is a manual for this thing, but it doesn't come with the unit. You have to hunt it up from Nissin on line. When I first got the flash, it didn't seem like it was working with my Canon camera at all. Subsequently I've reread the flash manual, reread the camera manual, watched some you tube instruction, and I'm finally beginning to understand the complex dance between camera and flash. When I use this unit correctly, it does beautiful work. No reliability issues so far, I've had it for about a year, but not a heavy user. Recommended.

Great Flash doesn't shut down like sony

if heavy user sony flash will shut itself down for potential overheating way too often, that would slow me down on my shoots waiting for flash unit to allow me to shoot again, this flash no issues, doesn't have as good of connection as sony, I'd highly recommend.

Nissin gives biggest bang for the buck !

This review is for the original Mark I model for Canon. I have 2 Nissin Di-866 Pro flashes & they are the best for the money. Only the Nissin & Metz has a 2nd fill-in flash. All 2nd fill-in flash heads are manual, no one makes a TTL 2nd fill-in flash head. I have used my Nissin Di-866 Pro flashes with umbrellas, softboxes, diffusers, 2.4ghz wireless radio triggers & have never got a bad result ! Since the Mark I models are not made anymore I will be buying my 3rd Nissin Di-866 pro flash and it will be the Mark II model. And YES there is a USA company in New Hampshire named MINOX USA that handles anything needed for the Nissin Brand Flashes, and they are great ! And yes Nissin flashes will work w/Canon Rebels, T1, T2, T3 as well as the D-series ie...40d, 50d, 60d, and the 7d Canon Dslr bodies.

THIS FLASH WORKS GREAT

I REALLY LIKE THIS FLASH. TOOK SOME TIME TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO SETUP THE FLASH AND CAMERA FOR WIRELESS, BUT ONCE I GOT THEM TALKING TO EACH OTHER IT WORKED GREAT. LOVE THE ROTATING/TILTING HEAD PS RECHARGEABLE HI-GRADE BATTERIES A MUST

better to save up for a nikon flash

I had big hopes for this flash. The interface is much easier than my sb800 but sadly it won't sync with my Pocketwizard mini tt1 system, nor is the ittl as accurate as the nikon flashes. If you're only doing on-camera then it might work fine for you but iTTL is not as good

I've said it before, flash is awesome !

I just purchased my 2nd Di-866 flash 3 weeks ago and as I said back in 06/2010, you can't beat this speedlite. I took it to compare against Canon's580exII & the Di-866 is a millimeter or 2 bigger all the way around. Shooting continuously at full power the flash will fire every 2 to 3fps ! That's a fast recycle ! Some say it over exposes, neither of mine do it ! Some say the sub-flash is not auto it is manual. But all flashes with a sub-flash are set manual. The sub-flash has a 5 to 6 F/stop manual adjustable range. The Di-866 has a high speed sync mode from 1/320th to 1/8000. Di-866 has a total of 3 different wireless triggering modes from AV mode to Manual mode to E-TTL mode as Master or Slave. AWESOME ! Go to [@] to see how it compares to other flashes. Nissin has a optional battery magazine/holder where you can pre load 4 batteries and be ready to switch out the drained batteries for some freash ones. Like speed loading a 6 shooter revolver. You can also use a Nissin OR Canon optional external battery power pack that holds 6 or 8 batteries if you don't want the optional magazine type battery holder and you could easily double your shots if not even more ! I have bought now 2 Nissin Di866 for not too much more than the cost of 1 Canon 580exII speedlite ! This Nissin Di866 is awesome.

Great Flash

Three days after I got my flash from Adorama I got hit while shooting a basketball game and the flash went flying. The hotshoe broke but Nissin repaired the unit and had it back to me within a week! Try that with Nikon. The menus are easy to navigate and this flash rocks with the Nikon CLS. I've been shooting Nikon for years and this flash works well!

Awesome unit ! Better than Canon !

This Unit is awesome and easy to use ! Way better than the Canon 430exII or 580exII ! And a lot less expensive. Plus the color display that rotates vertical or horizontal and don't forget the fill in sub-flash ! Two things that the Canon's don't have. I will buy another as soon as I can ! Don't miss out, save some money and go ahead and buy this unit !

I will buy more of these

I am completely satisfied with these speed lights, was origaninally going with another SB900 but I saw I can have two of these for basically the same price. Very happy with my decision.

Professional Quality well worth buying!

I use this flash for general use. I find it great for an off-camera fill flash.
