I have used this once since acquiring last year. It take some practice to become adept and using a fisheye. Last October pics outside did not look good to me being mid day overcast light in NYC. SO I am putting up pic of very messy desk at the time.

I just recently bought one of these for band photography for super wide stage shots and cool up close images. I haven't used it for that yet, but have taken several test shots indoors and outdoors. I really like what this lens can do! Since it is a 2.8 prime lens it works well in low light and focuses very sharp. The lens is super small and can takes pictures just inches away from the front of the lens! If you are looking for a fisheye lens for a Nikon DX camera, this is the one to get!

My decision to purchase this lens was the intention to just have fun with it. The images from a fisheye are so playful to begin with that its perspective isn't going to be as we see things normally. The 10.5mm f/2.8G has a minimum focus distance of just over an inch that I can get so close to my subject and let the horizon curve at the distance. The fast aperture is nice using available light when the sun is just beyond the horizon. Images comes out clear and sharp. The lens itself is small and light so is not tiring to use all day. I've had the 10.5mm f/2.8G a couple of years now and it has become more than what I expected to use it for. I used it during my travels at landmarks and was able to capture huge structures into frame while I was directly in front of one instead of at a far away distance. It was helpful covering corporate events to show the large attendance. My favorite though will have to be the fun using it to photograph my Pomeranian during our travels and adventure. I hope you have room in your camera bag for the 10.5mm f/2.8G to explore your creative possibilities and express your passion.

If you like to PLAY ... EXPLORE images that you can not see ... And just get in real close and see what you can come up with, this is the lens for you! I have wanted one for years ... But always thought it was just a toy lens, and what would a real photographer do with one anyways? Then I bought one ... And found out that yes, it is a toy lens, and yes, it is a riot to shoot with. Have fun. See things with a new "twist", add graphic lines and shapes to things that don't have graphic lines and shapes ... A real joy to use. I took it into my college photography class and just let students walk around and shoot with it ... It really got them to get in there close and look ... Really look at design within their images. I am looking forward to getting out and shooting the Milky Way and the night skies out West. "Into the great wide-open" ... A great ART lens ... A new way to see, shoot, and explore lines, shapes, and all that you can cram into one frame ... One crazy frame!

On a DX body minimal edge fall off, not the super wide angles of years ago however not the price of them. Anyone that needs the maximum wide angle for a DX body this is the lens. Nikon Qualify. I have used only Nikon product since 1964 and am a retired Medical Photographer.

Below is a photo I took with the Nikon 10.5mm "fisheye" lens in the press box of the home of the Boston Red Sox--Fenway Park. This lens has amazing resolution and infinite depth of field, even at large apertures. The railing near my feet and the center field scoreboard are equally in focus. This image was taken with a Nikon D200 camera body at a shutter speed of 1/125 of a second (hand held), an aperture of f/4, an ISO of 400, Auto White Balance, and Center Weighted Metering.

Love my new specialty glass for fun photos that "bend" trees, buildings and exaggerate my subject matter. This is not an everyday lens but if you have some extra cash for some excellent glass to add to your Nikon lens collection, you can't go wrong here. Don't be afraid to get really close...art is the result.

I have waited along time to add this lens to my collection and I am very happy with it so far, I had tried a cheaper manual focus lens at one point but I sent it back.

I'm a big fan of wide and ultra wide angle lenses, and always wanted a linier fisheye for that something extra. This lens delivers. Super sharp, with amazing DOF. I can put it in my pocket when I walk around for that different perspective so it usually comes along when I go out to shoot. I often use it vertically for doorways, windows and buildings. the fisheye effect can be easily corrected in Capture NX2 for great ultra wide shots if desired.

I always wanted a fisheye, but dropping close to seven hundred bucks on a lens that would only be used occasionally made me hesitate. When I finally decided to drop the hammer (and the credit card) I decided that if I bought it, I would make sure to use it often. I use only prime lenses on my D7000, I started photography back in the '70s when zooms were not that good, and when I go out to shoot I only use the one lens on my camera. The go-to lens is the 35 f1.8 and my second one is the 85 f3.5 micro. Once a while I mount the 50 f1.8. When I got the fisheye I started to go out with it and try to get creative. Creative I got. I have taken some amazing photos with this lens. As a food blogger I have used it for food, sushi especially looks good with a fisheye, and restaurant interiors. One thing, the lens allows you to get so close that I got food on it once. Winter scenes are cool and it has given some neat shots at the beach. The lens is solid and well-made with plenty of glass and metal. It has a smooth feel and balances well on the D7K. The fisheye effect can be minimized by centering the horizon and you can make some amazing panoramic photos that way. The effect can be exaggerated by angling up or down. I've made the grill of my Mustang look like it was smiling by hitting the right perspective. The color at the edges is more intense and blue skies look like I used a polarizer, which I like. Overall, this is an amazing lens and a fun tool. If you buy it, make sure you use it often.

This lens is sharp, fast, wide & fun! I took it out of the box, snapped it on my camera, and went out shooting. The lens has worked flawlessly ever since. I intend to use this lens for astrophotography...just waiting for a clear night.

This fisheye offers the unique really wiiiide angle view of 180o on a DX camera with clarity and little other than the expected "fisheye" distortion. Modern software knows this lens and the lens profile correction removes almost all of the extreme circular distortion. When you need this point of view, this lens delivers at a good price. I rented this fisheye, liked it, and then bought one - I am still glad I did.

I bought the fisheye so I could shoot the Milky Way, some landscape, and occasionally making the dog's nose look bulbous. While I am still playing with it, I've been getting some great results.

This is a great lens to have in your bag. If you're like me, you won't use it a lot, but when you do, you will get some fantastic images. There is a fair amount of color fringing going on. That's why I gave it four stars instead of five. But never mind that. Its not a big problem. Just get one and take some cool shots! In my experience, the key to making this lens really work is to get super-close to your subject. Then get closer. And then, when you think you are too close, get a little closer still. Play around with odd angles. And keep an eye out for your feet/knees. The angle of view on this is so large you can easily find them creeping into shots.

Not the most used lens in my bag but when the situation calls for it there is no substitute. It is truly fun to use. Just try not to shoot your feet when shooting landscapes.

I was first introduced to the Fisheye lens (16 mm 2.8) in 1992. It was an exceptional lens! However in 2011, the AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED is by far, the best of this series of lens, Its wide perspective (180 degree sweep) leaves me breathless! The images are absolutely extraordinary on the D7000 Nikon*. To make things sweeter, the lens has exceptional close range properties!

I have had more fun with this lens than I ever expected. I have gotten stunning results in many different settings from landscapes to portraits. There are many different situations in which I will use a standard or wide angle zoom. And then I will get this little 10.5 out to see what images I can produce. They often are dramatic and much more interesting.

Great lens, excellent quality, sharp, would recommend to all.
The AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED, an important addition to the DX Nikkor lens lineup, the first fisheye lens designed specifically for digital SLR photography is also the first to achieve a full-frame 180 degree picture angle. The ultra-wideangle focal length of 10.5mm brings digital camera users a picture angle equivalent to that of a 16mm fisheye lens on a 35mm [135] format camera.
The lens is targeted at Nikon DX Format digital SLR camera users who seek the unique visual effects a full-frame fisheye lens lends to landscape and other shots, to taking close-ups, or when shooting within vehicles or other tight interiors.
The AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED excels at shooting extreme close-ups. Combining a minimum focus distance of just 3cm (1.2 in.) from the front of the lens with Nikon's Close-Range Correction (CC) System ensures sharp results.
The "Fisheye to Wideangle Transformation" function in the optional Nikon Capture 4 software package transforms diagonal fisheye images shot using the AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED to ultra-wideangle photos, (by transforming the type of projection). This is an appealing new feature made possible only with digital photography and with the Nikon Total Imaging System.
Optical and close-range focusing performance are both optimized for Nikon DX Format digital SLR cameras. An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element minimizes chromatic aberration for clear, natural colors, and the rounded seven-blade diaphragm opening ensures a natural look to out-of-focus elements.
This G-type Nikkor lens is designed with no aperture rings. Its operation is easy and virtually mistake-free because the aperture does not have to be set to minimum. The compact, lightweight design fits comfortably in the hand. And photographers at all levels will be pleased with its outstanding cost performance.
Note: This lens is not compatible with 35mm [135] or IX 240 format film SLR cameras.
The true focal length of the new AF DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED is 10.5mm with a picture angle of 180°. The combination of reduced picture angle and a smaller image circle enabled the creation of the first fisheye lens in the DX Nikkor lineup.
