About Nikon 12x50 Porro Prism

Nikon's Action EX, Extreme All Terrain Binoculars are designed to appeal to optics users who value tough construction and reliable optical performance under even the most extreme conditions.

The Nikon Extreme binoculars feature an all-metal chassis with lens fittings housed in a tough, lightweight polycarbonate body shell. Like all Nikon All Terrain Binoculars, the EX is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed for total waterproof, fogproof and shockproof performance in any environment. The binocular is ergonomically shaped, tripod adaptable and rubber coated for a non-slip grip, whether wet or dry.

The new Extreme ATB offerings utilize high-resolution lenses and prism systems crafted from Nikon's exclusive Eco-Glass, which is made without the use of arsenic or lead. This lens system provides an extremely clear, distortion-free image over the entire field of view. The lens elements each incorporate multi-layered anti-reflective coatings formulated to deliver optimum brightness, high contrast, true color rendition and flare-free viewing in most lighting conditions.

The Action EX series binoculars each feature a unique, click-stop eyecup design that not only delivers long eye relief, but also allows for variable eye relief that is customizable to the user's own eyes and eyeglasses. The binoculars are central focus with a diopter control to correct for normal right/left eye vision imbalance.

Each model is covered by Nikon's 25-year Limited Warranty, as well as Nikon's exclusive No Fault Repair/Replacement Policy.

Excellent value, rugged binoxf

from Tuftonboro, NH  -  Casual/ Recreational

This is my second pair of Nikon 12X50 Action Extreme EXs. My husband broke his binox and appropriated my old pair, which I liked so much I got myself another one. For general use they're hard to beat. I use them for birding, sports, snooping, and admiring the lake and mountains. They are a bit heavy and bulky to take into the field, but I have done so and it wasn't too much of a hassle. Optics are quite good, field of view is excellent, easy to focus, easy to hold. Good and rugged too - you don't have to treat them like a Faberge egg like some binox. I have no negatives about these - they're all good.

Nikon 12x50 Action Extreme (EX),

You guys out there, just buy it,and keep in your pocket at least $500-$800 for similar 12x50s with maybe......maybe a just little better glass clarity. George

What an AWESOME pair of binoculars ! I have been a hunter for many years. I'm sorry I didn't buy these sooner.

They're not called Superior for nothing.

from OKC  -  Casual/ Recreational

I've yet to see a 12x glass, at any price, in any configuration, that will outperform the big brightness, resolution, ease of view, and general feel in the hands. It may not be waterproof, but I don't drop it in the lake, nor do I fall out of the canoe when going down the river, and my mama taught me to come in out of the rain, so....You could spend more than double the price, and not get a better view. I'm not saying it's "the best"...I'm just saying it's every bit as good as anything else out there, and I have had the good fortune to try them all. I have all 3 SE models, and consider them nonpariel.

A+ Edge to Edge Sharpness

from Tasmania Australia  -  Astronomer

A wonderfully crisp full field of view during daylight and at night Sirius showed as a pin point right to the edge of the FOV with just a little extra chromatic aberration (purple fringing) right at the edge. Overall chromatic aberration is quite low. The eye cups sit perfectly on my face and (when folded down) on my glasses. Relatively easy to hold for extended periods, though the 12x magnification does call for steady hands. Reclining in a deck chair proved the ideal method for astronomical use. Focusing and diopter adjustment are firm and smooth with undetectable backlash. I would have given these binoculars 5/5 if they were fully sealed. Also the requirement for a non standard tripod adapter is a bit annoying. Yes they are expensive, but worth every cent in my opinion.

Questions about this item:

Shopper  What is the different between tow model 12x50 action Ex extreme and Ex extreme ATB Nikon binoculars?
MICHAEL B  I not sure if I understand the question. I'll assume you are asking for the difference between 12X50 Action binocular and the 12X50 Action Extreme ATB. The Action binocular has a shorter eye relief (12 mm) and is not waterproof. The Action Extreme ATB has a longer eye relief (15 mm or longer), is waterproof, and weights a few ounces more than the ATB Extreme. I wear glasses and if you do, you will want the ATB extreme to see the entire field of view without taking off a pair of glasses. These differences are true for the entire Nikon Action porro prism line.
