Hate not givign it 5 stars.

from Plains, ND  -  Photo Enthusiast

I hate to not give this lens 5 stars but it doesn't earn all 5. If i could give it a 4.5 i would but alas i can't. I bought this lens to replace my 28 f1.8 on my infrared DX camera (hot spot issues). I wanted this lens because it is a super wide prime which are my favorite for what i shoot, Infrared landscapes. This lens works perfectly for infrared. The light tranmission is a stop and a third slower than most other lenses i use but i contributed that to the coatings and that i'm not using it for it's intended purpose. My sample doesn't perfectly match the focus scale to the infinity stop but this has no effect on the focus accuracy the scale just reads a bit off, no big deal i'm not goign to set my focus with a tape measure. Mounted on my FX camera this thing is WIDE and i love it. Though it is larger and heaviter it might replace my fisheye my previous favorite lens. I haven't compared sharpness between the two primarily because the fisheye cheats. I would give it half a star off because the distoration/softness on the corners was a bit more than i was expecting working with subjects other than nature (people). Again this is outside the intended use for this lens.

Bought the lens just before a trip to the Bolivian Salt Flats and then the Amazon River. Amazing lens for landscape shots and perspective shots. Extremely sharp. Allows for increased creativity. Depth of field is amazing. Great for putting either a person or object of interest super up close and personal with a beautiful landscape background, with both being in perfect focus.

Good Price & quality for used Nikon 14mm

from Newtown PA  -  Photo Enthusiast

Just got the lens. Product arrived well packed from Adorama and even though shipment was by the cheapest method, I got the lens in plenty of time. Lens quality was rated at N and it seemed almost spotless and fully functional. The glass was clean. So very happy with the description and quality. It came with lens caps but no manual or original box. Got the manual off Nikon website. I discovered later that it was a used Gray Market lens (maybe missed it in the details of the ad) Overall would recommend buying from Adorama for used lens and their rating system. If I got the original box and manual, I would have given it a high 5 instead of a low 5, but the system does not allow me to get that granular or split hairs. Based on this experience, I just bought another used lens. Lens is more affordable than 14-24 and lighter. Nice complement to 16-35 if you already have that lens. Not sure yet if it will be super sharp but the first picture looked good.

This lens exceeds expectations

from Pebble Beach, CA  -  Photo Enthusiast

I read the reviews here and thought I would like this lens. Wrong. I love it. It makes me look like I know what I am doing. I enjoy taking photos and I delight in taking really good photos. This lens will not disappoint. It requires a little TLC because the is no protective filter, but it is well worth it. This lens makes me look better than I am. I am sure it can do it for you.

Super Wide, Super Sharp

from Long Island, NY  -  Semi-pro Photographer

A lot of weirdness at the edges, so play with it a lot to get used to it. Try to center focus on an object about as tall as you are. This lens has limited use for most photographers.

Outstanding Super Wide Lens

from Levittown, NY  -  Pro Photographer

As good as any lens I have from Nikon. But distortion at edges need to be taken into account. Best at f/8 to f/11.

YESHVANTH E  This is a great lens, super sharp and light to carry around. Produces fabulous pictures on my D700. Highly Recommended. Way better than lugging around my super heavy Nikon 14-24mm zoom lens.
