I am learning about how to take landscape pictures in general. I purchased this lens for this purpose and I was surprised with the pictures it produced. The attached (downsized from the original for uploading) is my first attempt for a somewhat long exposure (30sec) landscape picture at f16, iso64, 24mm. The camera body was d850. It was on a tripod with VR turned off. Even though the image is not as sharp as I wanted due to the vibration caused by combination of wind and the people running past me, it is still acceptable to my eyes. I am ready to give 5 stars.

I spent a lot of time deciding which wide angle lens I wanted to get to use with my D700. I finally decided on the 16-35 and all I can say is WOW! I must have an especially good copy because mine is sharp from 16 to 35, and it performs beautifully on my D700. I bought it for landscapes, and it's wonderful for that purpose. Sharp, great clarity, superb color. The size is modest and fairly lightweight, and it's very easy to handle. I like having the constant f4, although admittedly I usually stop it down more. One reason I preferred this lens over the 14-24 is that it can take filters, whereas the 14-24 cannot. The 16mm is wide enough for me, and I like that it extends to 35mm at the long end. I have rather a lot of Nikkor lenses, and I'm beyond delighted with this beautiful lens. It is one of my top favorite lenses and one I will never part with.

I needed a good ultra wide angle lens for western landscapes, eastern fall color, busy cityscapes, opportunities of the moment, and more. I couldn't be more pleased by large images created with this lens on a D750. Sharp, with very good detail and contrast, and control of internal reflections. Even handheld, vibration reduced nighttime shots last year with Christmas lights across the frame at a busy Rockefeller Center were crisp with little distortion at f4.0 in the corners. The only possible downside for some may be this lens' weight and size. But I've walked around with it for hours without a problem.

I purchased this lens about 2 years ago, it is incredibly sharp and produces some of the least distorted and crisp images I've seen. However, there is a significant flaw with the build quality of this product. At long exposures and high ISO (which I need for photographing the stars) a red band occurs in the same place in each photos. I have read that this is due to a flaw with the VR unit, but turning off VR doesn't help. This is my second copy of the 16-35 lens and both have had this issue. I've included a RAW file in my review where you can see the red banding towards the top. If you won't be shooting at night this lens is unmatched as a wide-angle, but if you are by all means steer clear and purchase something else.

I use this for shooting portraits in my studio which is a tight space. This lens is very useful for indoor pictures of individuals and groups. I primarily use this for model photo-shoots, which sometimes require fast focusing and low light sensitivity. This is a MUST HAVE for indoor, studio, and event photographers.

The fabulous resuts this lens is capable of speak for themselves see my sample image titled "Bow Lake Glacier". In addition, the build quality is second to none, the usual high standards of a Nikon Pro-series lens.

I bought this before going on a trip. I won't travel without an ultra wide lens. I already owned the Nikon 14-24 2.8 lens. Why did i buy this one? 1. it's 2/3 the weight of the other lens. 2. The 14-24 doesn't take filters so i never feel safe when i'm around too many people who might bump into the front element and scratch it. 3. I paid about half the price of the 14-24. 4. more zoom range. 5. VR Love the 14-24, but this one seems more practical for most uses.

This lens was my present to myself after I upgraded to the D700. I enjoy using wide angles lenses for my landscape photos, and this lens used on a full frame camera gives me a beautiful field of view. I've been happy with my shots so far at the 16 mm end, and have not noticed any vignetting. I have tried this indoors for a couple of family get together shots and was pleased with being able to get everyone in frame without squeezing people together. The only negative I can come up with is that this is a BIG lens and the 77 mm front opening was one size up from anything I have ever had before, and a 77 mm polarizer I found out is pretty expensive.

This is my "go-too" lens for general indoor and outdoor use. It's incredibly sharp and displays very low distortion, even at full frame. The fact that it maintains f/4 throughout the entire zoom range is wonderful. The VR is fantastic and allows an extra two stops hand-holding it.

It took me a few months to realize that I would never make the most of the magnificent 14-24 f2.8 which I had bought a year ago. Too heavy, too big, no filters. I sold it on eBay, bought the 16-35, and I am using it much more than the bulky 14-24. The cherry is VR. I am only sorry it was not available a year ago!

Skilled photojournalists and talented amateurs have grown increasingly appreciative of the visual versatility afforded by ultrawide- to-wide-angle zoom lenses. These focal lengths broke new ground in the 1990s with offerings such as the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 20-35mm f/2.8 and its advanced amateur counterpart, the 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D IF-ED.
Now, an all-new ultra-wide zoom featuring a fixed f/4 maximum aperture, Nano Crystal Coat, ED glass and Nikon VR II (4-stop) image stabilization offers discriminating Nikon digital SLR photographers an ideal blend of versatility and high performance priced well below its "pro" equivalent.
The AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR is sure to satisfy the needs of a broad range of shooters and, therefore, is poised to build sales and profits.
Designed to meet the performance demands of the larger Nikon FX format image sensor. It is, however, fully compatible with Nikon DX-format digital SLR cameras.
